The morning after, the Knights board a plane at their private airfield, and begin the couple hour flight to the country of Slovechnia. Wynn has laid out a plan for them as such, leaving Sir Gar in charge of seeing it executed: they are to send in a few Knights to infiltrate the wedding, while others steal an ambulance from a local hospital. Using magic to make Sarandis think he's having a heart attack during the ceremony, they will intercept the outgoing call to the paramedics, and pose as them to take him out of there and straight to a private airfield to meet with Wynn. They're all aware, however, of just how smoothly their plans tend to go where these villains are involved - especially if the Mind Master shows up.

Either way, it promises to be an interesting day...

[A ghost of a smile touches her lips. One that doesn't quite reach her eyes for all the effort it might take to do so but Rose does manage to force herself to lean forward to accept the drink, a nod of gratitude to Steve.]

Mmmm... [Not entirely sure what to say. If she could even find the words for what she's feeling right now. Rose does take a sip of her drink though, grateful for the warmth that rolls down the back of her throat and spreads through her insides.]

So what's it mean? The look?

[ He settles back into his seat and pauses. He looks down into his drink for a moment. Finally he finds the words. ] Many things. Depends on the soldier I guess? Exhaustion. Relief. It can be a mixed bag. Sometimes men just don't know what to think. They don't know how to connect to the atrocities they witnessed. [ He takes a sip. ] What's yours mean? [ See what he did there? Politely checking on you without coming out to ask are you okay?. ]

[She at least seems to really think about that. Her head resting against the back of her seat as Rose goes over every possibility and finds herself coming up short.]

All of the above? [A wry curve to the corner of her mouth as her head lolls to the side.] I don't know. Guess... I thought I'd feel something but mostly it's just...

[Her brow wrinkles, Rose's gaze drifting over the backs of heads, outlines of faces. Lingering briefly on one before looking back to Steve.]

It's not over? I mean it never really will be but it's just. It's like that... [Oh bless that was a terrible knowledge check.] You know that game where, those things pop out of holes and you hit them and then another two pop up?

[ He gets the sentiment. The desire to feel something after something like this. Between Red Skull and HYDRA it's all left Steve feeling a little numb. Especially with HYDRA. Cut the head off one and two more grow back. It's like you're running in quick sand and you can't get out.

Steve raises a brow when she talks about this game. He doesn't know it. Sorry, Rose, Whack-A-Mole is from the seventies. Steve was on ice then. ] Can't say that I do. But I think I get the feeling. Back home there's this organization called HYDRA. Which--the name--is pretty telling. You cut the head off one and then two more grow back ya know? It feels kind of--like you're spinning your wheels.

[She probably should have gone with the Hydra analogy seeing as... she actually knows what they are. (Arc Lore 25), a flicker of recognition and understanding from Rose.

There's something in her eyes that might hint it's more than that but in the end, Rose nods.]

Yeah, something like that. [Trying for a little more of a smile.] Plus it's not every day you get to kill the man who killed you. [Her nose wrinkles.] I think that's the definition of irony right there?

[ As twisted and dark as it seems Steve has to laugh at that because she's right. It's not everyday you get something like that. ]

Pretty much. I think spinning our wheels is part of being a good guy. Cause we're not always taking the easy way, but we know we're right. [ At least he thinks he does. Sometimes. ] He can't hurt anyone else though. That's the good news.

[And yet the laughter from Steve manages to pull something close to a real smile from Rose. Dark humor works better for her than heavy thoughts, okay.]

No, he can't. [She'll give him that. Of course she's never really thought Dimitris was their biggest problem. He was like that Uncle that would show up to family reunions who everyone hated and he had a knack for ruining the day. Nobody ever invited him to the party, he just seemed to think he had a right to show up and be an ass.]

And at least now we don't have to waste anymore time dealing with him so we can focus on the rest of it.

At least he's not blowing up anymore tanks with you inside of it.

[ He's not completely square. He can do some dark humor. It's been a long time since he talked like that. Sometimes Tony did, but the war was his memories. With the men stuck slogging through the trenches.

Steve's quiet for a moment as he thinks. Finally he speaks. ]

Do you wanna talk about our conversation before all of this?

Seriously. [She's still bitter about the whole tank thing, okay. If she was ever going to die she'd want it to be fighting, not because of some sniveling, cheater.

She had just started to relax a little, to feel like conversation wouldn't be like pulling her own teeth but then Steve changes the subject and Rose's whole body stiffens. Her gaze shifting around the plane, half expecting people to be staring in their attempts to listen in.]

No. [That one word borders on hostile but there's a panic in her eyes as she shakes her head.]

That's not something we should really talk about. [Lips pressing into a thin line as she silently wills Steve to understand her when in reality, he has no context at all for her concern.] Ever. Trust me...

[ Steve hands go up because those look like murder eyes. He doesn't mean any harm. He shakes his head quickly. ] Hey. Alright. I wasn't trying to pry into that. I just wanted to make sure he wasn't upset with me. I haven't even met the guy and I didn't want to tarnish any chance at talking to him.

[She doesn't respond immediately, body still radiating with tension, the grip on her glass so tight that her knuckles are turning white and she has to force herself to breathe like a normal person. To make her shoulders relax even though she doesn't feel it. Like each muscle that appears to release the tension is done so with meticulous effort.]

He's not. [Well. To be fair?] He didn't ask who told me and I didn't offer up your name.

[She knows she should let the subject drop. Needs to even but she does need to at least make one thing clear.]

He was going to tell me. [She's pretty sure that makes her sound like some stupid little girl who believes whatever she's told but, there's an earnestness in her words and it's clear that Rose does believe that much.] Just, so you know.

[ He breathes a little easier. He likes Rose. She's his friend. He wouldn't want to mess up potentially being friends with the person she loves. Not that he presumes to know, but what he saw in Dean that day led him to believe that it wasn't just a way to pass time for him. ]

Thank you. [ He doesn't expect her to say that. He looks a little confused, but he nods. Not sure why she felt the need to reassure Steve that Dean was going to tell her. ] I never said he didn't. [ He smiles. ] I'm happy it worked out.

[That is at least what sees her relax, Rose's belief that Steve isn't judging Dean but she's still going to be very tight-lipped on the whole subject, simply nodding in reply.]

Yeah. Me too. [The smile she offers tight at best, Rose still worried he might say more than she wants him to.] Anyway....

[The least subtle at changing a subject. Even worse when she's at a loss to what to change it to.]

[ He's quiet for a moment. He takes another sip of his drink and lets himself enjoy it for the moment. He tilts his head as he studies her. ] Ya know. [ He says suddenly. For a moment Rose might think he's about to go serious again. Instead he veers off suddenly. ] I've been on top of an exploding giant tank before. So--we have something in common.

[Rose too uses the moment to drink, probably a little more deeply than Steve. She doesn't need alcohol to mute the bond anymore but it's now a habit more than a necessity. Still. Right now? She feels like she needs this drink.

His words make her eyes narrow infinitesimally, Rose's head cocking to one side.]

I'm guessing that worked out a whole lot better for you than it did for me? [The slightest hint of a grin there.]

People have said I'm way too hard-headed to die. [ He shrugs his shoulders. He remembers hearing it from someone, but Steve can't remember their name. It's like a foggy memory with no real definition. He hates that. ] I mean if we were keeping score I'd probably be winning, yeah.

[She relaxes a little more at least, taking another sip of he drink.]

I've never spent a few decades on ice so, I guess it evens out in the end.

[ He just snaps his fingers and points at her. ]

Hey! There was a purpose to that. Technically I did think I was going to die when I crashed that plane. The ice was just an unfortunate event coupled with the weird unknown side effects of the serum in my veins.

And here I thought its purpose was to make sure there was at least one person I know who knows less about TV and Music than I do. [Grin widening.]

I'm learning fast.

[ He puts his glass on his arm rest and crosses his arms over his chest. Looking properly offended. ]

I can text pretty fast now. I've listened to the whole Trouble Man album.

[Rose just. Looks at Steve like. Who the what is that?! (Know: PC 6)]

Yeah... I can tell you the name of every song off AC/DC's Back In Black album - [Know PC: Nat 20. Dean is so proud right now.] - but I have... no idea who or what... Trouble Man is.

[ To be honest Steve didn't know Marvin Gaye until Sam so you shouldn't feel bad, Rose. He didn't even know the Beatles for a while. Which is apparently what makes you public enemy number one if you ever tell another living soul. ]

I'll add AC/DC to my list. [ He doesn't have it with him. ] Marvin Gaye. My friend Sam introduced me to it when I was recovering in the hospital after a pretty bad run in with multiple bullets and passing out under water.

See, then you'll have something to talk to Dean about. [Nobody is shocked that Rose's Pop Culture knowledge has been heavily influenced by Dean.

Rose squints at him during that explanation.] And people think I'm a magnet for trouble. [A beat.] You should really start avoiding places that have water of any kind.

Almost dying is kind of my job title back home I think. [ He pauses. ] Most days.

[ He smiles suddenly. ]

I've jumped out of a window twenty floors up. My shield absorbed the damage, but it definitely did smart.

Well now you're just bragging. [Grin widening to show she's teasing.] I still say that shield will only slow you down.

[Yes but not everyone is like you Rose. Not everybody has a ridonculous armor class and can barely get hit by the average enemy.]
