The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Sam managed a disguise check of 13, so he's in a suit that fits him well enough and a tie that's tied like it should be.

He's also playing a bit of the wallflower game, which stands out a bit since he's rather tall and rather recognizable, given that he just walked down and gave an oath in front of everyone.

He's not exactly nursing the bottle of beer in his hand, but it's probably a little warm as he gets to the bottom of it, his eyes still tracing across the room and getting a good look at his new 'co-workers.']

[ With a disguise of 26, Lydia looks ballin'. As usual. This is surprising to no one.

She approaches Sam as he finishes off his beer, holding two glasses of champagne. It becomes readily apparent as she extends one to him just what she's doing. ]

Congratulations.

[familybusiness]

[Good god gurl you're going to give him a heart attack.

He clears his throat as he sets aside the empty bottle, taking the glass.]

Thanks. For the congratulations. And the drink.

[Which he lifts so that they can clink glasses?]

[ Clink. She raises her glass to lightly tap the bowl against his. ]

I didn't realize you were planning on joining us in such an official capacity.

[ Her eyes briefly flick over him, evaluative. ]

How's your brother feel about that?

I couldn't tell you. I still haven't heard from or seen him.

[Sam's smile is knowing, because yeah telling him that news probably won't go well, but neither will him being here in the first place probably be anyway.]

You could always call him, you know. That's usually how news works.

[familybusiness]

Find me someone who has his number and maybe I will. I'm pretty sure the only people who do are with him on the road right now.

[Yeah that's...the only excuse I got for that.]

I don't think that's the best way to handle this, though. It's a little more complicated than just telling him I'm here.

[Feeling full and bored(since his pre-order somehow hasn't arrived yet.), Max decides to mingle with his juniors. He scours the hall for a target and once he finds one, he immediately marches toward them and since the one who stands out is Sam, he gets to be bothered by this half-orc.] You're one of the new squires right? The name's Max. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. [He offers him a smile and a hand to shake.]

That's right.

[Sam offers his back, giving the other man's a firm shake.]

Sam. Nice to meet you.

So, what's your story, pal? The standard freshly arrived Shadowkind looking for shelter, or trying to save the world from apocalypse kind of guy? [Max looks at Sam with an analyzing gaze. And from his expression, you can see that he thinks Sam falls into the first category since he looks... normal.]

[familybusiness]

[hahahaha it's a good thing he doesn't know...anything about the apocalypse yet or he might have spit out his drink.]

I don't know if a few months counts as freshly arrived or not, but there's that. I heard my brother was around, and I came out here to find him. Turns out I like it here enough to stay.

Looking for someone, huh? I guess we're not too different. [A short pause.] Well, I've been here since I was born, here in this world, I mean. So if you need help with things around here, jusk ask. [He smiles and pats Sam's shoulder. This is how normal human socialize, right? He doesn't normally do this kind of stuff.]

[familybusiness]

[Sam laughs good-naturedly.]

Honestly? I wouldn't even know where to start. For every thing that's exactly the same, there's something different.

[arrested]

[ Never let it be said that Alisha has grown out of being shallow. Luckily, nobody ever has. That's why then she gravitates towards the tall pretty boy. She looks him up and down. Mostly up, she's not that tall. ]

[familybusiness]

All. Right?

[What you doing gurl? He shifts back and forth uncomfortably on his feet.]

Is there...something I can do for you?

[arrested]

[ Wow he's pretty but maybe a little dumb? She'll let that pass, mostly because of the pretty thing. ]

I was just saying hello?

[ Which she might be saying slowly, because she's helpful like that, in case he's dumb and can't keep up :) ]

You're new here too, right? I saw you at that squiring thing.

Oh. Sorry. Hi.

[Social butterfly, Sam is not.]

Yeah, I am. I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name earlier?

[ She smiles at him a bit, likely because of his face. ]

You look like you could do with a few more of those. [ And a vague gesture towards the bottle in his hand. ]

I don't bite, you know.

Sam. It's nice to meet you.

[In case she didn't catch his earlier, too.]

I'm not usually a big drinker unless the situation calls for it.

[And this situation definitely does. At least a couple.]

You sure? I'm pretty sure some of the people around here might.

[He met a vampire already okay?]

[ Oh look, another month, another tall, handsome new squire playing wallflower. And this one isn't even actively radiating brooding grouchiness (not that Derek proved to be that unpersonable in the end). Kate wanders over because she can, all legs and expensively tailored purple dress, seeming very much at home in her environment. ]

Welcome, [ she says with a smile. She has a muted silvery clutch tucked under one arm and a glass of white wine in one hand, with which she gestures expansively at their fellows. ] You didn't fall or fluff the words, so you're off to a better start than most.

[Maybe Wynn has a type. Or this mun does. <.<

His smile is friendly enough as she speaks.]

Thanks, I think. Do people really bite it during the walk all that often?

[ There's nothing wrong with a type!

Kate smiles back, and shrugs. ] I've only been here a couple months, but I've seen a few. A lot of people flub the words pretty badly, too.

[ Speaking of words (no there's no segue I'm sorry), she switches her wine glass between hands and offers him her right. ]

I'm Kate. Welcome.

Well, then I guess I'm lucky I could manage to make a decent first impression.

[Let's see if he can keep it up. He shakes her hand, because that's an easy enough friendly gesture.]

Sam. And thanks, I appreciate it.

Nice to meet you, Sam. [ Kate's grip is firm and her hand is more callused than the purple manicure might lead someone to expect. She swaps her glass back and sips. ]

So what brings you to the Knights? Brains, brawn, magic, bizarre animal companion?

Likewise.

[He doesn't feel quite so awkward around her than some of the other women he's talked to today. It's nice.]

Mostly the first two, I think. I originally came here looking for my brother, but he hasn't showed yet and...I guess I'm already kind of attached to the place.
