[  The communications tower team is two-fold, but they'll be traveling together to the Isle via a greater teleport scroll as well.  The larger group arrives at the outskirts of the wood, and it's easy enough to spot the giant tower, not far off down the road.  Night is falling, and they're shaded from the empty road at the moment by the tree line they're close to.   Lis'sa looks irritated by the method of travel, checking over her supplies before confirming for them that they've landed on target.  Zero hoists his laptop case onto his shoulder, as Aurelius pats himself down, obviously afraid of missing body parts from the jaunt. ]

[jordan still has his curved blade drawn as he enters the tower with the rest of them, eyes sharp (spot 26) as he looks around. the blood is pumping fast in his ears from the action just moments before. a faint shimmer surrounds him, little specks of glitter that seem almost suspended around him as he walks with the group, though he doesn't seem to notice.]

[ lis'sa lets the muscle vanguard head out in front of her and zero and andrew :|

faye, jordan, and emma would all notice shadows moving on the wall where the hall curves ahead, indicating that there are at least 3 guards around the corner. ]

[Shit. Faye's gaze shifts immediately to Emma because she's in charge and Faye respects her authority now??? Weird. Anyway. She gestures at the shadows, just in case Emma (or anyone else who can see her) didn't see.]

[jordan sees the shadows on the wall, bringing his sword up and to the ready. he casts his eyes back as well to see if everyone else noticed.]

[ Emma holds up a hand to stay them for the violence and opts to try a less offensive approach. She waves Lila up with her, pressing herself to the corner (move silently 19). If it wasn't immediately clear why she waves Lila up, it hopefully becomes apparent when she mutters the spell for sleep again, leaning out to get a look at the 3 guards and trying to cast it over as many of them as she can reach. Maybe Lila's dreamwork can take any who make their DC 13 will save down? ]

[ lila moves forward quietly (move silently 30), waiting for dudes to start dropping like flies before she darts forward to take care of whomever is left standing, if anyone, fingers drumming silently against her skirt with teenaged impatience. she actually has the sleep spell of her own. will she use it? not likely. ]

[ welp. this is an unfortunate turn of events.

all three of the guards made the listen check to hear their approach, so when emma leans out, casting her spell, she finds herself staring down the barrels of three guns. and they all... make their will saves.

yaaaay??

"Hands up! Don't make a move," barks one, annnd it's init time ]

[Jordan is super at the ready, and when the guards see them his first reaction is not to harm them, but to try and take them out of the fight without bloodshed. sheathing his sword, he strides out to the middle of the hallway, hands outstretched in front of him.] Just...just take it easy, okay? [diplomacy 17 to at least not shoot him on sight.

he casts deep slumber on the guards (DC of 19) silently and quickly, a fall of glitter showering over them from his outstretched hands. he hopes that will be enough.]

Don't take this the wrong way, but—

[ Provoking an attack of opportunity (AC 18), Emma ducks in for the disarm, trying to wrestle the gun out of the hands of any guard who's still up after the sleep spell (presuming any are still). She's got priorities, and not being shot is among them. She can't risk another failed sleep spell right now when she already almost lost her head this month (opposed atk 21). If multiple guards are still up, just pick one idc. ]

[ two of the guards drop in the cloud of glitter. but oh my god the guard got a nat 20 for his attack of opportunity. as emma walks forward, her words are actually cut off by the painful shot to her torso (dmg 26) ]

[ Surprise! Massive damage.

The bullet pierces straight through her chest with such excrutiating agony that she sinks to her knees, eyes wide, stunned. Her hand gets a moment to rise to her rib cage before it falls away as consciousness leaves her (fort save 7) and she slumps against the nearby wall, dead to the world. Blood flows steadily from the wound, just off-center through her chest, and soaks through her shirt on either side, dribbling down towards her jeans. ]

lila rushes forward, twisting around emma's slumping body to reach out of roughly curl her thin fingers around the guard's... throat, trying to force him asleep. (melee touch atk 23; dc also 23) at the same time she barks out a command behind her. ]

Call Solace! Now!

[ with a 19 will save, lila gets her hand on the guard's throat and his eyes roll back in his head as he slumps soundlessly to the ground, gun clattering beside him as well. ]

[The sound of the gunshot makes Faye flinch, stunned as she watches Emma fall back against the wall, sliding down to the ground. By the time she's able to tear her gaze away, back to the bastard who fired the bullet, Lila's got him by the throat and he's slumping. But he's just asleep. He's not bleeding out on the floor. Emma is.

God.

Lila's voice breaks through the buzzing sound in her ears, and the mixture of anger and fear and panic forms into a hard lump in her throat. But it's not the time to lash out. Killing them won't save Emma. So she fumbles to get her phone from her pocket, hands steady, but fingers feeling numb. She dials Solace, taking in heavy, even breaths while she waits for him to pick up.

Because all of this? Is what a nat 20 will save looks like.

Meanwhile, Andrew just lets out a very undignified "Shit!" as he watches that scene quickly go to hell. Very helpful, Andrew.]

[ solace picks up pretty quickly. ]

Yes?

[ lis'sa's eyes actually widen in horror at what's unfolding in front of them, as zero gets so thrown off that... it explains his crit fail ok. ]

[jordan's immediate reaction is not horror, or sadness, but pure rage, an emotion so rarely seen on the djinns face it would be a shock to see it now. it twists his features, a dark cloud of emotion roiling over his brow as he scowls at the fallen guards (intimidate...Nat 20?? s-so helpful against passed out guards, jordan.) he rushes to emma's side, attempting to stem the flow of blood with his jacket as faye calls solace.]

[ Despite the attempt to put pressure on her wound, Emma's blood continues to flow out of her, paling her face (fort 11, -1 hp). ]

[ looking still horrified, lila rifles through her pockets. nothing. fuck. she unzips her jacket and rifles through inside pockets. yes! turning around, she jams the small plastic wrapped package in jordan's face.

it's a tampon.

GONNA GET UR WOUND PLUGGED UP WITH A TAMPEX PEARL. ] Here. [ immediately, her attention turns back to faye, clear question in her eyes. ]

Emma's been shot. You need to get to the communications tower. Now.

[Not one of his team. Not anyone else. Him. Get your bald ass down here, grumpy. There's a pause as she looks at the others trying to help. All she can see is the blood. She manages one last word, but her voice breaks, undoing any demands she might have just made.]

[he blinks as suddenly there is a tampon shoved into his face. thankfully he knows what a tampon is, and how it is used (it was very possible he wouldn't know, but he got a good wis check of 19, so it's all good). He quickly unwraps it, exposing emma's wound just long enough to...plug it in there. yep. (treat injury 22??)

he will continue to hold pressure, and try to support emma as best he can. ]

Keep her out of further harm's way if you can. [ with that, he hangs up, ain't no time to waste. jordan successfully manages to stabilize her so ... /init??? ]

Someone's going to have to stay with her until the cleric arrives. [ the implication being that... it can't be her team. because they're on a time table that every other team is waiting on ok. truth bombs. ]

[ lila looks over at faye, down at jordan and emma, back to faye. ] Stay with them. [ because jordan is busy keeping all of emma's remaining blood in her body ok, someone needs to be on guard to shoot people in the face if they try to breathe in the direction of the swan princess while she is hurt. faye is the only person here that lila trusts 100% to make sure emma will come out of this fine. ] Catch us up when she's stable. I've got these guys.

[ bossy mcbossy pants, just taking over. she sounds like she knows what she's doing, at least, bolstered by the way she calmly pulls both her guns with an almost disturbing ease. she's obviously capable of defending them and herself, she'll be just as capable doing it on her own. (diplomacy 50) her cool, furiously eyes turn to their small flock of nerds, lingering on zero as her resolve briefly crumbles before she jaw tightens, lips pursing. ] Let's go.

[ she doesn't look like she's keen on taking no for an answer. ]

[Faye doesn't have a single inkling to try to argue with Lila right now. She has no desire to take a step away from Emma's side. And Lila can handle herself, can keep the nerds safe. And they'll catch up soon. So long as Solace moves his bald ass fast enough.

With a nod, she moves to Emma's side, opposite of Jordan and crouches down. Carefully, she moves a piece of hair from the fallen woman's face, riding out her nat 20 will save for just a bit longer until the rest of the group leaves.


Andrew remains stunned, but as Lila draws her guns, his attention shifts to her. Mission, right. He nods and steps over towards her, not having an issue at all with Lila taking point. She's sort of terrifying when she wants to be and a much better shot than he is, after all.]
