[ Having spent months scrying on areas of the Island scouted out by Sir Bancroft and Sir Chessing, Hasmed is able to send a few groups to the Island via greater teleport spells, with a fairly small margin for error, as to where they're going to land. The Shadowkind prison teams land flawlessly, and the very big group appears in a clearing in the middle of the woods, abruptly finding themselves surrounded by trees and mostly darkness. The moon is in its last quarter, and with the trees so thick above them, there are only patches of light that filter down here and there. Those with darkvision or lowlight vision can see perfectly, but anyone with normal vision may find themselves squinting to see much of anything.

The teleport spell only works if the entire group is physically connected, so when they arrive, Wolverine yanks his hand off Nathan's shoulder, and gives Drax a Look like stop touching me if you value your hand. Eric runs his Drakenet app to determine their location, then announces: "Dead on." In other words, no spell mishap sending them miles off target. Beside them all, Lan's mount, Daisy, stamps her feet slightly, obviously unnerved by the magic. He whispers "Whoa, there" and reins her in, causing her to settle. ]

[ rocket unlatches the door, and they open into a long, sterile corridor that ends with two imposingly tall double doors at the far end as well. a few doors line the corridor here and there on either side. the walls and floors have odd black streaks on them in places as well. there's a strange smell in the room, and logan's nose twitches as they make their way in. ] Something burning?

This entire place will be, by the time we're through with it. [A beat.] Possibly metaphorically. Dissembling it through blunt force is also acceptable.

[But (wis 15) means he recognizes the scent as well. He frowns.]

It would be inconvenient if the fire starts while we're inside.

[He's gonna draw the twin blades from his boots, just in case. Does he believe he can fight fire with knives? We just don't know.]

[Faith's eyes are drawn to the twin blades, mostly because she's got a thing for sharp, pretty things. She doesn't want to get distracted though, so she goes toward the wall, looking at the streaks. (wis 16) If it smells like something burning these could be scorch marks.]

[Rocket got a 9 wis, so he's just like whut- possibly because burning smells weren't what he expected and he was trying to protect himself from antiseptic lab smell PTSD. He stops to paw at his nose with the hand not occupied with his gun, clearly uncomfortable now that he's set foot back inside the building, but he pushes through it with a derisive snort.]

Keep your eyes open. [And he keeps walking towards the tall doors, ready to start firing at a moment's provocation. FIGHT FIRE WITH MACHINE GUNS???]

[ logan moves forward a step and stops. anyone else who makes a listen check of 15+ can hear it too - approaching steps that thunder and all but shake the floor ] Somethin' big.

[don't mind if nathan pulls his molotov cocktail out of his bag and his lighter out of his pocket. /LITERALLY FIGHTS FIRE WITH FIRE? oh and listen 17 before mods w/e he hears it.] Well, good thing we've got that guy. [drax. he means drax.] He's like the bloody hulk.

[Yeah, I'd say Rocket heard that with his 27 listen check. Obviously, his ears are better than his nose. He levels his gun in the direction the sound's coming from, stopping short at the head of the party.]

Don't say a freakin' word, Drax. [We know you're neither currently bloody or whatever it is you were about to say.] Just let your knives do the talkin'.

[ the doors abruptly grind open, revealing the figure behind them: a hulking mass of stone and brass, puffs of acrid smoke leaking from its maw. smoke rises where it treads, and it stands a good 18 feet tall, its rocky body flecked with brassy deposits. flames flicker in its eyes and gaping mouth, and it radiates heat.

logan stares up at it, claws extending. ] The hell is that?

Something for us to destroy. [It's a nice, simple world for Drax. He eyes the giant monster made of metal, rock, and fire and decides he's gonna kick and stab it until it dies. Good life plan.

He uses his second and last heroic surge of the day as a move action and runs up to the monster. He slashes each blade across the monster, then follows up with a kick (atk 29 (19 crit), 15, 18, dmg 18, 9, 6)]

[ despite it being flatfooted,

none of drax's attacks

pierce the thing's exterior.

it appears entirely unaffected, even by his critical. it does however, open its maw - and pour what looks like magma out at all of them. a reflex save dc 24 halves the damage, otherwise they take 29 fire damage. whether they make the save or not, they're all affected by the slow spell from contact with the magical lava, for 4 rounds.

logan's reflex save of 5 isn't doing him any favors, and he takes all that damage, his skin burning and bubbling as he grimaces against the pain. slowed, he can only move forward to drax's side, and doesn't have time to even attack it. everything is horrible. ]

[Yeah... this is not good. Why did Faith go this way again??

Either way, let's get this going. Her opponent is definitely Rocky here and her reflex save (thankfully) is a 26, but hey at least that's dropping her HP back to full numbers and gets rid of that half point. Not that she's excited to get injured and she's really concerned that the big guy didn't even put a dent in the thing. Which isn't comforting at all.

Faith isn't sure what to do, but she figures she has to at least try something. She retrieves the gun she picked up off of Black and aims at the mouth. She fires, hoping to hit the thing. (atk 21, dmg 6+4 penetration 5 = 15 total)]

[Rocket makes his reflex save (31), but he still gets more than just a little singed fur. The slow spell takes away one of his greatest assets- his speed, so he's left awkwardly taking five steps back, glancing down at the remote in his pocket to avoid facing the fact that Drax DID NOTHING TO IT. DRAX. THE DESTROYER. DID NO DESTROYING.

And then he remembers something and he starts to get the bare minimum of a plan.] This thing won't stop tryin' to kill us until its orders change. I think I can do that.

[Unfortunately... that's all the time he has. Until next round. #suspense]

[nathan narrowly misses the ref save dc (22), so he feels the magma. all in his face. so unsexy so awful. at least he made his massive dmg check too (18), so he won't die today. again. for now. he decides to put all his energy into lighting his molotov cocktail. y e p.]

You do that, mate, I'm going to fight fire with fire!

[Drax growls at the inconvenient magma though he made his reflex save. He doesn't seem too put off by his failure. He drops one of his knives, too impatient to sheathe it nicely, and winds up for one mighty punch that... probably doesn't do much (atk 20, dmg 9 JUST IN CASE HIS MAGIC FIST THING WORKS. I CAN DREAM.)]

[ both faith's shot and drax's fist do nothing :( striking off the side of the thing like it's made of adamantium itself.

now that you're here drax, it's going to slam into you with a massive heated fist. (atk 28, dmg 16+14 fire damage ow.) its other fist will go for logan but an attack of 26 WON'T HURT HIM AHAHAHA ]

[Ha ha. She is gonna use this turn to just move the hell away from the thing. The further away, the better. Sorry guys, but she isn't gonna try to punch the rock thing that pukes lava right now.]

[ logan's skin slowly heals over the burns (+5 hp) and then he does his one attack and makes it count (atk 40, dmg 19). sorta. it really only leaves a tiny scratch on it 8( whooo damage reduction. ] You gotta be kiddin' me.

[Rocket has whipped out the remote and is frantically trying to figure out how to access the option for THIS FUCKING BEHEMOTH when he sees Drax take that hit.. and man he don't look so good. Growling, he keeps working. (computer use 12 13 ACTION POINTS SAY 28!!!]

[nathan throws his now lit molotov cocktail at the giant crazy thing for a whole ... atk 10. i'm guessing it just bounces off him and rolls into magma or smth. where it will detonate 1 round from now i guess. or now bcuz magma.]

[Drax is pretty dumb so he's just gonna punch the thing again (atk 24) and I'm not gonna bother rolling damage again just gonna cry and hope Rocket's thing worked.]

[ the ember guard looks down at drax's ineffective fist smashing into its leg, as nathan's molotov cocktail explodes away from everyone, in a puddle of magma. it raises a fist again, bringing it down towards the destroyer's head--

and stops, just a foot short. the fist hovers there for a moment, and then the creature slowly straightens up again.

and just stands there. ]

[That... seems to be a good thing. She's still not gonna move too far away.]

So did the raccoon just get a brand new toy?

[ well. shit damn. ] You can control this thing?

[Rocket doesn't even seem to care about his victory or the fact that he was just called a raccoon again. Being only able to run at half speed makes getting to Drax difficult, but he makes it, and that's pretty much all he can do right now. The danger has passed though, so the only worry on his face is for his friend..

Worry that promptly turns to anger.]
