Do you know? What you are? I mean, you said you'd had this since birth. Is it just a psion ability, or a mutation of some kind, or — ?

[This is where it gets complicated. Of course she wants to know details. And she deserves an honest answer. Clark doesn't exactly have a million friends around this place. Skye is one of the few he feels a little more at ease around.

The fact that he's already talked to his mentor about all of this helps as well.]

I know. But... you might not believe me. [He glances around.] And if we're going to get into this, can we get out of here?

[Somewhere more private please. He's baby stepping this whole thing.]

I — Yeah, of course. [ she nods quickly and moves with him to find an empty room. Empty, of course, because it's mostly destroyed. ] "No" is an okay answer, you know. I know this is asking a lot, your life story and all.

[He looks around the room they end up in, gaze sweeping the crumbling walls, broken furniture.]

It's not, though. Up until now I've been hesitant about letting people know what I can really do. I've been scared. Part of me still is, but...

[He holds both hands out, gesturing to the demolished room around them.]

All of this? Is more important than me keeping secrets.

[Okay. Deep breath. You can do this Clark.]

I'm not from here. And I don't mean that I'm from the shadow world. I'm not. But I'm also not from here. Earth.

[hacker]

You're— [ she's gaping. ] ... Are you saying you're an alien?

[clarkfuckingkent]

[He just swallows hard and nods, letting it sink in.]

[hacker]

[ He's waiting a long time while she processes. Then, she looks excited more than anything. ]

That is so cool! Oh my god, can you shapeshift? I mean, do you really look human, or is this just a blending thing? Is that rude to ask? Can you fly a spaceship? You should definitely talk to Quill. You've met, right? He's got a spaceship—I mean, it doesn't work, but he can fly it. Not that he's an alien or anything. He was just abducted. Do your people abduct humans?

[clarkfuckingkent]

[So...many questions. He doesn't even know where to start.]

I don't really know a lot- about my people, I mean. I'm not a shapeshifter, though. This is me. I was sent to Earth when I was just a kid. My planet was destroyed but my parents were able to get me out of there before...

[He lets out a harsher exhale. Maybe a different topic, not about dead birth parents.]

No abductions that I know of, but like I said, I'm not exactly an expert.

[ She exhales her excitement right out. Wow. That was ... bleak. And now she feels awful for probing, but not as awful as she feels for him. How terrible must that be? How alone? Her heart aches just imagining it, feeling it for him secondhand. ]

Oh god. I'm ... I'm so sorry. No wonder you don't tell many people about it. That was a ... terrible thing for me to stick my nose in.

No, it's... It's okay. It's less about what happened there and more about not wanting my family here to get dragged into any sort of danger if the wrong people find out. Honestly? You're one of the only people here who knows. The only one actually- besides my mentor.

[wynn probably knows because he's Wynn but Clark hasn't flat out said it yet.]

So I guess this isn't a "schedule a coming out party" kind of explanation. [ Skye nods. ] I get it. I won't tell anyone.

[clarkfuckingkent]

It's more... I felt like you deserved to know. You're one of the only people around here I would consider a friend. If I can't trust you with it, I might as well leave, right?

[hacker]

[ Fluttered surprise comes out of Skye all at once as she searches his expression. Slowly, she opens her mouth, searching even as she gets ready to speak for the right words. ]

Clark, I — [ She visibly changes gears, letting go of whatever she was ready to tell him. A grateful, reassuring smile hits her lips. ] I'm glad you feel like you can trust me with this. And ... I'm glad you're my friend. Thank you.

[clarkfuckingkent]

[He smiles, his gaze ducking as he nods.]

I figure everyone is going to know eventually. Might as well start with people I think I can trust. You and Bo pretty much had the same reaction. It's just been a apart of me for so long that the idea of it being cool just doesn't even register.

[hacker]

Well. I promise it is very cool, and even cooler is being part of the super secret club that gets early access to knowing about it. [ She fixes him with a lopsided grin. ] But you're still Clark. And you're still my friend. It doesn't have to change everything, to be honest about who you are.

[clarkfuckingkent]

I really hope that's true. And I hope that letting people know doesn't end up causing more trouble than anything else.

[hacker]

You could always ease them in. Fess up about the wicked cool superpowers first, alien origins later.

That's sort of what I've been doing. Helping out around here. I'm not exactly hiding the strength. I figure it's a good start.

Well, if you decide you need a good cover story, we do have, like, an army of mages.

[He laughs a bit.]

I think I'm done trying to cover things up. It's just a matter of how and when I start telling people. The fact that you aren't freaking out? Helps.

[hacker]

Well, I'm happy to be in your corner, big guy. Not that you need it, apparently. You could just one-two punch anybody who got weird about it anyway.

[clarkfuckingkent]

[Glancing down, he shakes his head, suddenly a little more somber about it.]

I'm not looking to threaten anyone here.

[hacker]

[ skye notices that shift, concern furrowing her brow briefly before she lets it slide. ]

Sure. Yeah, of course you wouldn't want to do that.

[clarkfuckingkent]

I worry about it, sometimes. [He says after a few beats of silence.] About what happens if I lose control. I could hurt people if I'm not careful. Fighting a big metal dragon is one thing, but... it's not always going to be that simple.

... Sorry, I just need a minute to process that you just implied that fighting a metal dragon is simple.
