[When Kate isn't on her hyper-vigilance kick, she happens to wander into one of the bars Ric is in, ordering herself a drink of her own. She plans on it just being the one, unlike Ric, but it'll help her relax which she is in desperate need of at the moment. When she spots him at the end of the bar, she takes her glass in her hand and raises it in his direction, like a small gesture of solidarity.

Solo drinkers unite. Only if they did, they wouldn't be solo drinkers anymore.

[Except Ric is going to attempt to do just that by getting up from his seat and moving over toward Kate's end of the bar with drink in hand. I don't know why. Maybe he's self-aware and can see that he's quickly headed back toward rock bottom, and is actively attempting to avoid it because that's the only real reason I can think of right now.]

Mind if I join you? As fun as it is to drink alone, I think the wait staff here are starting to get a little too judgmental for my liking.

Not at all. But it surprises me that they would be judgy - this seems like the kind of thing she should probably encourage.

It's probably my own interpretation of the fact that they know me here by name at this point. [He lifts his glass in a mock gesture over toward the person working the bar like thanks, Bob--or whatever his name is idek.]

If we were all sitting around drinking together, maybe. But when it's just you and the bartender, it starts to get sad.
