The day has finally arrived: the 2015 Grammy's gather together musical talent at the top of the food chain, which means that NOVA Records will be well represented at this year's ceremony. Unfortunately, this includes performances from Keijen Blade's band, Heatless Passion, and Nadia Reichenov's, Derere, both of whom are working for "Chad Becksworth", aka Draken Crombe, head of the Shadowkind-hating cult, the Church of the Lord's Humanity. Equipped with some sort of ability to hypnotize large crowds with subliminal messages, Wynn fears what lies beneath Keijen's intended performance, and is sending his Knights to shut down the broadcast, to prevent that message from being spread to millions of viewers worldwide.
Meanwhile, the gang finally has a chance to see Rafael Giovanni again - but what he's been up to in the months since they last saw him, and how his reunion with Buffy will go, remains to be seen.
Several of the Knights have decided that this is their last chance as well to try and break Nadia free from Keijen's influence, now that they've learned the truth about him - that Keijen is in fact Kel'in'hrae, sadistic son of the Nightmare God Malaak'a, likely working to free his father from the prison Sehanine had created for him. The prison sealed by the relic that the team has been chasing for years, believing it to be an immortality-granting talisman of great power.
The truth, it seems, was worse than they could have imagined.
One step at a time, however, and stopping the signal is first priority on Failboat's to do list for now. With an actual plan under their belts this time, maybe this is the turning point they've been waiting for...

The eleven hours spent in the air would find her getting up to chat with several people who weren't close enough to talk to without being absolutely annoying, trying to interest a few people in a friendly game of poker, or talking quietly with those closest to her. Once more of her nervous energy has worn off she seems to be in a much more contemplative mood, looking out at the sky surrounding them, obviously lost in thought.]
arrival ♛ grammy's red carpet
the knights touch down and are taken to a hotel where they can get glammed up for the show. after which, a stretch limo pulls up out front, ready to take them to the staples center.
gar (disguise 20) looks positively stunning, especially next to jack (disguise 21) - who keeps staring at her when she's not looking. even kat takes it to the max, sucking it up and putting on a dress (disguise 17) that she's totally working. maybe she just wanted to keep up with fred, who looks bangin' himself. (disguise 18)
the limo ride is largely quiet, most people feeling the weight of the impending evening, given all of their past experiences, and all their new understanding of exactly what scale of threat they face. while jack goes over a couple of things - checking to make sure everyone has their subtle earplugs installed, which can be activated by a button on a bracelet they each receive, going over the performance line-up and when they need to make their way backstage, and offering a few stirring words of encouragement (diplomacy 33), there's not much more business discussed.
when they finally pull up, even through the tinted windows, they'd clearly see a mob of people outside, flashes popping as celebrities parade down the red carpet. as a valet steps forward to open the door for what's ostensibly going to be finnick odair and entourage, they'd be able to see a line of star stretching all the way to the doors, some being stopped for brief interviews here and there.
spot checks of 20+ are enough to notice at the front of the pack, burt becksworth is ushering a smiling rafael (disguise 27) and isabella (disguise 25) through the doors, as both wave to fans on either side. neither bother to look backwards, and they vanish inside amid the sea of heads.
about halfway up, an incredibly gorgeous nadia (disguise 34) is leading her band, although her smile looks painfully forced when she even bothers to adopt one.
there's no chance of catching her attention, as they are drawn out and onto the carpet... time to make with the smiles (and charisma checks, for those who want to bother), and dex checks ]

Jack went over the plan. Spike was disappointed that they couldn’t prioritize Nadia.
Split into teams
Elena and Spike found the security room, but Buffy was distracted by Rafael
Crit failed a listen check because Buffy was having Rafael drama, but Elena heard the thing
Elena went up to a security guard and got him to take her to the head of security
Elena told the head of security someone had broken into her room
Buffy and Spike followed the security guard to Beyonce’s dressing room
Buffy fucking 1-2-3 punched the guard out
She couldn’t tie him up but Spike was very successful at it…….
They took his shit and the other guards called him telling him they couldn’t find anything
Spike faked an American accent (and I did it aloud and I’m really proud of myself) but it was pretty believable despite its atrociousness and it worked
Meanwhile Elena changed her face to the guy’s face and went to the room. She saw the Mind Master on one of the screens but didn’t know where she was.
Alainn went out to the audience and hit on Finnick
Turtle’s accent is ADORABLE
Finnick had an amazing bluff check
Justin Timberlake was into it
The guards called security and Elena sent some out to deal with the situation
They could not deal with Alainn’s Alainn-ness
I’m pretty sure she seduced one of them
Vi found Beyonce and fell in love forever/tried to touch her
Vi poured water on herself while Rose and Archer blocked her from view
Vi pretended she was going into labor
“Ah this wife of mine is having a baby! Or something.” Said Archer.
Elena told the guards to take Alainn outside and stay with her
Got another call about a baby giving birth
“There’s no time for that get Beyonce!” Archer says and smacks the fuck out of the guard
The other guard intimidates him
They started arguing over sending Vi to the hospital and talked about drunk sex
Told Elena the husband assaulted him
Elena told the guards to call an ambulance felt kind of ambivalent about knowing what to do
Alainn overheard and claimed to be a doctor
The guard was like ummmmm nope
Alainn slapped him and said there wasn’t time and made a break for it with a nat 20
All the guards converged on the fake baby and Rose slipped away
Elena holds the guards at gunpoint. One of the guard notices and is like “Is everything all right?”
Elena orders one to tie up the other guy with a hella awesome intimidate check
But scared him too bad for it to work… even blindfolding didn’t work
Elena made the guys start crying good job Elena
She tied them up and rolled them away
Brought the rest of the crew in (Jack, Gar, Fred, Kat)
Kat didn’t realize the people were still awake so started talking but Gar quieted her down
Kat tried to punch the guards out and instead punched the wall with a crit fail
Luckily fucking GAR is smart and has a watch full of sleeping gas
Asked Elena how things were going and she was like yep ok
Des crit failed a spot check because he was too angry while he texted ZaradGot a 15 but it still was failAshley whispered “Fuuuuck” right in bb Jade’s ear

Myri got a 30 spot check and Finnick got a 10 because apparently he’s all distracted by Alainn’s sexiness
Myri and Finnick talked about Alainn’s crazy, Finnick asked if the baby was ok

We didn’t get a message about domestic violence… instead we got Keijen Blade what the fuck it’s the darkest timeline
Myri group texted to tell the group
Archer texted back THAT DOESN’T MATTER VI’S HAVING MY BABY
They tell Vi there’s an ambulance coming
She casually collapses with a nat 20 bluff check

The guards think she has a point but SHE’S DRUNK
Alainn asks if THEY’RE gonna stick their hands up in Vi and the guys just crit fail

Alainn turns on Vi’s ear plugs and everyone else turns theirs on. Myri texts Archer to tell him that YEAH TURN YOUR THINGS ON
Archer put in a second pair because two is better than one (Matt may have been joking idk)
Alainn tried to lip read and failed and she and Archer just kept yelling at the pour guards
All the Knights are deaf but the celebrities heard the song cue
Buffy realized she FORGOT TO TELL RAFAEL and sent him an email which he may or may not have gotten???? ARDEN MAKES ANNOYING SMUG FACES
We all kind of danced in place to the music the PCs can’t hear
The TV screens all go ERROR CAN’T HEAR and the people who don’t know what the fuck is going on are mad
Jack asks if anything is going wrong and Elena’s like oh btw Mind Master is wandering around nbd nbd also mentioned that there was a shady guy walking around on the walkies that… might have just been them
Buffy and Spike just nod at each other and decide to hunt the Mind Master
Finnick leaves the audience and Myri wants to go with him but Finnick holy fuck diplomacies her out of it but gave him an aid spell
Spike sees something sketchy and just grabs Buffy’s arm with no explanation and they chase it. They both see the door closing and rush on anyway this definitely isn’t a trap and they’re not gonna die

Buffy didn’t get a good search check but Arden took Tifa all the way downstairs and brought dice so she might be dead now we don’t know

Meanwhile hallway group gathers and Rose opens the door
she doesn’t see anyone
Archer goes in to get water and everyone else follows him in yep this is gonna end well
Archer opens the door to the left and sees a tiny room within the room
Elena is trying to open the tiny room door and Rose notices the other door closing
Elena unlocks the door and it’s a bathroom and Arden is laughing at us
Archer whipped his dick out and sent a picture to people I guess
Everyone made a will save and Finnick and Archer rolled poorly and Arden took them away to where this scribe cannot follow
Matt came back but RUTHI AND ARDEN ARE STILL GONE
As Elena and Rose tried to leave Archer started arguing with himself (they read lips: some parts of “I’m gonna shoot you in the face you fucking bitch”) and Finnick just completely froze. Elena tries to read his mind and sees running through the wood and hears screaming and takes two damage
Elena texts the group to say that they’re effected and Myri’s like BRB SAVING MAH HUBBY and Jack’s like r u sure this could be a terrible plan and Myri’s like YEP
Rose just picks up Finnick
The song ends so they all take off their ear plugs and Rose tries to diplomacy him out of it and he spasms a little
Archer doesn’t think of taking out his ear plugs but he seems ok
Myri gets past Jack with her adorable face
Rose is trying to diplomacy him out with Myri reminders again and Myri bursts in
“Remember your wife and your future child.” IT GETS REALLY SAPPY AND ADORABLE
Myri is like what’s going on and Rose is like FIX HIM
Myri got a nat 20 diplomacy check to bring him back with her love but Finnick isn’t sure if she’s real even though he’s awake HIS PTSD IS REAL

Jack texts to ask if everything’s ok and Archer replies “Finnick’s broken.” Jack tells them to get the fuck out.
Des is headed towards the back and runs into Isabella who seems confused to see him. She asks why the fuck he’s here. Des tells her he was invited by Rafael and Isabella’s like he didn’t tell me. She asked why he was backstage and he just shrugged and was like idk I’m lost but his insane bluff check (48) was pretty convincing.
He asked why she was back here and she said it wasn’t his problem.
Des went off at her for abandoning Rafael and asked why she was back here really
She said to make sure no one would cause trouble for him cause YOU KNOW WHO’S HERE
She said he wasn’t a complete idiot
He asked if it ever considered that we were here to look out for him too?
She picked up on that “we” with a nat 20, and Des did not pick up that bluff very well she’s going with Des to find Buffy and Spike
Spike sees footprints and follows them then hears Buffy talking to someone Scottish dressed as a Catholic priest
Spike got a 15 wis which I decided is enough that he won’t just run to her aid…. He snuck up to the fountain and heard him say “Why don’t you ask your friend?” he assumes he means himself and saunters out right in time to get slammed by a holy blade thrown at his chest (atk 41, dmg 24)
Init has started. Buffy and Spike don’t seem to be doing much damage despite doing a ton of damage. Anderson is more interested in Buffy than Spike. Spike attempts to grapple but it doesn’t really work at all…..
Banter about eating each other
Spike did not hit well
Buffy got a crit! And did 67 damage in a round.
Anderson does 100 damage right back at her and holy fucks with Spike
Spike fails utterly to grapple despite me using five action points and Buffy tells him to go get help
Anderson is NOT bothered by Spike and heals him again and keeps fighting Buffy
The doors open and Des and Isabella come out. Des sees him and has ptsd and Isabella just sees nothing.
Buffy tells Spike to run get help again and he reluctantly goes but says he’ll be back he comes across Des and Isabella and is just like GET THE FUCK OUT THERE BUFFY NEEDS HELP
Buffy hits him a bunch
Anderson takes Buffy down to 0 but her fast healing brings her back up to 5
Des runs up and shoots her
Isabella doesn’t have her swords but she has a WAR FAN because she is just the sexiest person alive and I’m actively in love with her
She x3 crits with her attack
Spike texts everyone to say GET THE FUCK HERE
Buffy got two nat 20s in her attack and did 95 dmg because she’s just as hot as Isabella
BUFFY KILLED ANDERSON
Rafael shows up and Jack and co fill him in on what’s happening
Des empties some more bullets into Anderson’s head
Spike goes back because UMM BUFFY’S DYING
Rafael runs to her side and ignores Isabella :(
Vi heals her, Rafael rips the blade out of her
Jack wonders if he’s really dead and everyone’s basically like UMMMM LET’S KILL HIM MORE CUT OFF THE HEAD

Des dibs cutting off the head and succeeds at that

Jack: We’ve got to get rid of the body without going inside.

She bowling balls the head in and Spike drags the body in.
Burt comes out: “The fuck is going on in here? Rafael’s got to go on stage!”
Isabella says they’ll taking care of Buffy.
Burt’s like we can get a dress for Buffy and Isabella goes to get it with her while the rest of everyone goes back to find the group.
Myri’s trying to hold Finnick’s hand and he’s not really… thrilled about it…
Fred’s like WHAT HAPPENED? WHERE’S ANDERSON?

Argued for two straight minutes with Spike about Rafael's dressing room.
Found Head of Security.
Lied to Head of Security about staying put while he went to deal with Beyoncé's robbed dressing room.
Followed Head of Security silently and efficiently to Beyoncé's dressing room.
Knocked him out with a surprise hit and massive damage (40 dmg!).
Failed to tie him up with a blender cord.
Had an awkward sexual moment with Spike when he knew how to tie the Head of Security up really well …
Locked him in the room, stole his shit, and sent Elena off.
Went to patrol the backstage hallway.
Put in earplugs as the performance began.
Realized that she didn't warn Rafael about the brainwashing, sent him an e-mail to prompt him to plug his ears.
Dipped off with Spike outside after something Spike saw.
Split up in the gardens outside.
Someone comes up and grabs Buffy from behind. Whipping around, she tries to deck them and spots—
Alexander Anderson. Grinning down at her and monologuing. Realizing she still can't hear, she turns off her earbuds to hear him start monologuing about it being better to die.
"So does [that monologue] mean you're gonna die? Because I'd be okay with that."
"Did you think you could avoid me forever?"
"Honestly? … Yeah."
Spike hears them talking and approaches quietly, hiding.
"Why don't you ask your friend to come out?"
"Spike?"
Spike walks out. Anderson pulls out one of his holy blades and throws it right at Spike. Spike pulls the blade out of his chest and runs at Anderson. They begin to battle, and Anderson seems myopically focused on murdering Buffy. Spike attempts to grapple him and fails, resulting in Anderson shouting, "Ye think ye can get yer hands on me?!"
Buffy punches straight into his abdomen, and both notice that Anderson seems to be regenerating most of the damage they do to him.
"What are you doing here?!" Buffy asks.
"I have unfinished business," Anderson declares curtly.
After Spike fails to grapple again, Buffy demands he, "Get back! Call for help!"
Spike runs past Des and Isa and shouts, "Go help Buffy!"
As Anderson gets double penetration on Buffy, she snaps, "You could at least take me to dinner first." He knocks her to 0 HP after damage reduction, and her fast healing immediately takes her back to 5 hp. Des runs up and shoots. Isabella shows up beside her with a war fan, and Buffy immediately announces, "He's here for Rafael!"
Spike, heading back towards the doors, texts everyone and calls Jack to say, "Get your asses out here: Anderson's in the gardens. He's going to kill Buffy!"
Buffy unleashes hell on Anderson, two nat 20's later does 95 damage in a single turn. She takes him down and as Isa and Buffy jump out of the way, Anderson plummets to the ground—dead. With one of Anderson's swords broken off in her abdomen still, Buffy slumps to the ground a moment later. Spike cancels the call for help.
Rafael runs past the group when they tell him Anderson is here. He moves immediately to Buffy's side, ignoring Isabella. Vi moves to Buffy's side and uses transfer wounds to take some of her damage. Rafael asks Vi if it's safe to take the blade out. Interrupting, Buffy demands he just pull it out. "Rip off the bandaid." With a 19 strength check, Rafael pulls the blade free. Buffy bleeds some more.
Jack looks down at the body and asks, "Are we sure it's going to be enough?"
Buffy looks up at him: "Are you kidding me?" A sigh later, she says, "Dismember it, canopic jars, bury it in different parts of the world, kill it with fire. I don't care: just get it away from me."
"Cut off the head," Alainn and Jack say at once. "Des," Alainn suggests, "should do it for irony."
Des beheads Anderson with his own bayonets.
Alainn offers to keep Anderson in her secret vault so they can get him out of the Grammy's. Spike strength checks Anderson into the vault.
Burt walks out: "The FUCK is going on here?"
"We took care of Anderson. He was here for Rafael," Buffy explains.
Burt demands Rafael get over there. "He's gotta get on stage—he's next."
Buffy gets to her feet, shoving at Rafael and telling him to go.
Isabella says, "Otherwise, they'll come looking. We'll take care of her." without looking at Buffy.
Buffy and Rafael have a Moment of eye contact, and Rafael promises he won't be gone long. Izzy goes to get Buffy a new dress, then lets her know that she is going to watch Rafael. Buffy catches up with the others, gets healed by Myri (who also casts Bull's Strength Mass—+2 str mod—for the next 13 mins), and goes to watch Rafael from the wings on the opposite side of the stage from Izzy.
Buffy and Vi decide a human should keep their earplugs out, so they make a deal with Archer for alcohol to give his earplugs to Rafael during Nadia's performance. When it's over, they take their earplugs out, and everyone seems to be fine. When they ask Archer, Archer pretends to zombie walk and say he craves brains. They blow him off.
Jack texts Spike and Buffy to meet Myri and Elena back at Rafael's dressing room. Buffy shows Vi, tells Vi to keep an eye on Archer being a sleeper agent and sends them back to Finnick. They follow Rafael to his dressing room. Reconvening with Spike, Buffy shares a meaningful look with him like WELL HERE WE ARE AFTER ALL. Myri hushes her voice and tells Buffy that a voice told her to come her in her mind, but she couldn't tell if it was a male or female voice.
Buffy asks Rafael if he brought his guns, but he didn't, so Myri and Spike hand their guns over to him. They all push the door open together and find the dressing room empty. Everyone but Rose heads inside. Nadia comes in with Rose a moment later with her head down. Rose closes the door behind her. Nadia puts her hand out and opens it: the necklace is there. She tries to talk in their minds, telling them to take the necklace.
