[She tilts her head to the side looking thoughtful for a moment before she drags a hand through her hair, nodding slightly.]

Perhaps. [The corner of her mouth perks up.] After all, Dumage isn't exactly in the dungeons or anything.

[ buffy scoffs and rolls her eyes, distaste seeping into her expression. ]

Don't remind me.

[Her eyebrows lift.]

And you really don't think there's a chance it might be a trap? Even if Dumage herself isn't aware of it?

I think ruling the possibility out entirely would be stupid. [ After all, they need to be prepared for the worst. Always. ] But stupider would be to skip out on our chance to do some quality damage. If there's an opportunity here to put Sarandis down for good, we have to take it.

Of course we do. I just don't want us to walk in there overconfident only to be completely blindsided.

[Not that she thinks they'll literally just...walk in. Or at least not all of them.]

I can't imagine Wynn hasn't thought of that possibility anyway. We've never been a step ahead of them before. It's hard to believe that we might be now, and it's definitely dangerous to just assume that we are.

I hope we are. [ She sighs. ] The more we see of them, the more I worry it might be the only way we stand a chance.

I do too. For all of our sakes. [She nods.] We need the upper hand combined with the numbers. A small handful of people isn't going to be enough.

That's assuming, of course, that any of the others in question will even be in attendance, though Sarandis never seems to be alone for long.

On the other hand, he doesn't strike me as an "invite Shadowkind to my holy wedding ceremony" kinda guy.

He doesn't particularly seem the kind to be marrying for love, either.

[She shrugs her shoulders.]

If he doesn't have something particularly powerful in the way of protection, I'll be beyond shocked, and said protection always seems to come in the form of her.

Maybe we should start thinking about a way to distract her, then. Keep her away from the ceremony, if she is supposed ot be security. I'm sure we can work something out with Wynn.

He's the one that makes the plans, but we can always make the suggestion when the time comes.

[Finally, she seems to grow slightly more uncomfortable, before she finally brings it up.]

Wynn wouldn't tell me what it was you did when you were looking for me, and he suggested I ask you about it. Will you tell me?

[ her face falls somewhat, thinking of hellsing, of the dying succubus. she swallows. ]

I don't think you'd wanna hear about it. It's of the not-so-Knightly behavior brand, but it was the only chance I had. Finding you was more important.

Buffy, I'm the least likely person to judge anything you felt you needed to do.

[She pauses, letting that sit there for a moment.]

Besides, the things he mentioned were...intense. You know how I am. I'm not going to let it go just because you think I might not want to hear about it. If I'm involved, I have a right to know.

[ not gonna argue that tbh. buffy's all about ladies' agency. ]

Vi came to me after Hasmed couldn't find you, saying that it was something evil and more powerful than he'd ever seen that kept him from scrying. I knew it had to be demonic. I could just ... feel it.

So I took her to Hellsing to find out what their leader knew about something like that. After aggressive negotiation, she confirmed that it was the work of a diabolist at the very least, and suggested I track it through demons. Dean and I loaded up to find one in London and interrogate it. It confirmed that a devil could do what we were describing.

[Elena suddenly looks like she swallowed something sideways, her expression slowly shifting through emotions ranging everywhere from utterly confused to legitimately frightened.

By the end, her lips are parted, clearly at a loss for words. She finally seems to realize she's gaping a bit and clears her throat, blinking a few times as she drags her hand through her hair, shaking it out.]

I'm sorry that's...you guys barely talk to me about these kinds of things, so... [She looks at her more closely, letting out a breath before she continues.] ...I don't even know where to begin with that. Are we talking like...the one that cursed Des? That kind of devil?

That would be the kind. [ She sighs. ] I can't ... help you see them, or tell you what to watch for, or anything like that while you're gone. But trust your gut. If it seems ... wrong, keep your distance.

Do you know if it's the same one or...?

[She shifts back and forth on her heels, tugging on her bottom lip with her teeth before she nods.]

Alright. I can do that.

No.

[ It's not the same one. But she doesn't really clarify that, so take it as you will. ]

I won't stop looking, to figure out what they were trying to do. Why they wanted to hide you. And who helped them do it. You worry about what you need to do, and I'll take care of this.

Buffy...

[Elena does not look like she is fond of this idea.]

I don't want you diving too deeply into something that sounds so dangerous and messy on my account. I can take care of myself and you have enough to worry about.

You can't fight an enemy you can't see. [ she shakes her head. ] I know you think this is about you, but believe me when I say that this is my fight. I have to do this.

[She seems to realize that no amount of arguing is going to get her anywhere, so she seems to relent (wis 20 total).]

Will you at least let me know anything new you learn?

Anything actionable, you'll be my first call. [ she hesitates, mentally tics off a few numbers. ] ... Well. Top 5.

[Her mouth screws in a defiant but mildly amused smirk.]

Gee, thanks.

[ She shrugs. ]

I figured you'd appreciate the honesty. There's novelty in that, right?

Sure. Just don't leave me in the dark. I hate that.

[And with that she breathes out one more final heavy breath to try and rid herself of the heaviness of that conversation.]

I should go let everyone else know what's going on...

[She trails off, though. Just in case Buffy has anything else to tell her.]
