Yeah, it's actually kind of a long story, but I ... tend to move faster than other people.

[Yes, Barry, that's a good explanation.]

You keep pointing out the obvious as if it explains anything.

Yeah, well ... an actual explanation would take a really long time, and I'm not sure if you want that kind of story time.

[It can be a lot and Barry knows this.]

[He crosses his arms in front of his chest for a moment.]

About a year ago I was struck by lightning charged with dark matter and it super charged my cells to the point that I have super speed.

[forcevisions]

Struck by lightning? And you're alive? That's amazing!

[supertardiness]

I got lucky. And I did wind up in a coma for nine months, so it's not like it was a perfect recovery.

[forcevisions]

I suppose not. Still, it's incredible. To have survived it, let alone the abilities it gave you.

[supertardiness]

[He takes a deep breath, before nodding in agreement.]

Yeah, it is. I wasn't the only one either - there were metahumans all over Central City.

[forcevisions]

Metahumans. You mean there were more people with abilities like yours?

[supertardiness]

[He nods in agreement.]

Yeah. When the particle reactor exploded it mixed with a storm over Central City at the time, so the resulting shockwave actually effected a lot of people.

[forcevisions]

[ silent for a moment, she finally shakes her head and says, ] I can't even imagine what it must be like there. All the magic of this world is plenty strange already.

[supertardiness]

[His eyes widen before he shakes his head.]

Yeah, no. All this magic stuff is pretty new to me too, but I am definitely very curious.

[forcevisions]

New to you? Then you wouldn't call what you can do magic?

[supertardiness]

[He shakes his head.]

Not really? I mean, I understand, scientifically, why my body does what it does. My cells were changed by the dark matter and while we may not know the extent of that change, they now vibrate at a higher frequency than yours do, so I can move faster.

Magic ... I feel like magic is the stuff science hasn't figured out how to explain yet.

[forcevisions]

That doesn't mean there isn't an explanation. Only that we haven't found it yet. Dark matter and cell vibrations, that's all science I'd never even heard of. So to me, it's all the same: what happened to you, what the Dragon's Fire does.

[supertardiness]

That is totally true. I've been doing a lot of reading since I got here though, and so far no one seems to have a really solid explanation as to why magic works the way it does, especially since there are so many different kinds.

[forcevisions]

[ she shrugs, as if not particularly bothered by the lack of explanation. ]

I'm sure we'll get there. Some day.

[supertardiness]

[He nods in agreement.]

Yeah, me too. I'd love to study it and try and figure it out. Explain the unexplainable.

[forcevisions]

So you're a scientist? [ it only barely occurs to her, the notion that people have lives chosen by desire rather than necessity. ]

[supertardiness]

[He nods with a grin.]

Yeah. Physics and chemistry mostly, but I can swing some biology in a pinch.

[forcevisions]

No wonder you can make scientific sense of what happened to you, then. I wager most wouldn't have been able to.

[supertardiness]

[He gives a small shrug.]

I had a lot of help. The scientists that were responsible for the lightning that hit me wanted to make sure what I could do wasn't going to hurt me, so they ran ... a lot of tests. They're still running tests, even.
