The acting Heads of the Knighthood - Hasmed and Solace - have made a decision that is not easy for many. Given the terrible state of everything happening in America, they've decided to relocate operations entirely to the States, and have secured a facility vaguely near Las Vegas: agreeing to work alongside the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization to find a way to take down Blade. It is certainly possible, with the grim missions that lie before them, that many, or all, of the Knights may never return. Reactions to the announcement are certain to be strong, but it's time to choose what they will bring with them to their new life - and for some, to decide if it's a journey they can bring themselves to take.

Most of the facility is underground, and the Knights are each granted badges that will act as keycards to get them into the barracks area that has been sequestered for them in its own building (called the Enclave), as well as to access the other rooms that are open to their use. It is more or less similar to this, but scaled up in size to account for the larger numbers of people housed on base. There are separate buildings on the base compound for the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (The Sanctuary) and for those members of Hellsing (The Bulwark) who have relocated as well. The entire compound itself is referred to collectively as "The Harbor". Peter Fargason will continue to run training drills daily, attempting to mold the Knights into a more efficient combat unit, and Hasmed, Solace, Koraith, Dovan, and Lis'sa will continue to assign missions to members of the Knighthood, ostensibly aimed towards slowing the tide of monsters and evil doers heading to Los Angeles and protecting Shadowkind in America from the "war on Shadowkind" being waged by the American government, as non-humans are being rounded up as potential threats to the country. Hasmed and Solace have assumed joint leadership of the Knighthood, and appointed no Dragon's Claw to replace either the deceased Sir Bancroft or the now gone rogue Sir Chessing.

Gone is the eclectic decor of the castle rooms, replaced by a much more uniform look to each assigned barracks, which, unfortunately, sleep two to a room because of restraints on space. Feel free to sign up for a roommate on the thread on this post. In fact, everything here is much more polished, state of the art, and modern, which is a jarring change from the castle. How well people adjust may depend on quite a few factors... but for now, they are free to attempt settling in.

[ Oscar lifts his gaze, his cheeks puffed out with bits of bacon filling them to apparently consider Lois's apology.

Either it's good enough, or the lure of bacon really is too much for him to be bothered with insults as he returns his attention to his bribe treat. ]

I am. [ A chuckle escaping as she bobs her head in confirmation. ] Trust me, though. I get it. [ Jerking a thumb at her chest. ] New York - not the city.

[Manhattan may have had a healthy population of Shadowkind but head upstate and she imagined it wasn't that different to Kansas. ]

Believe me, it's an epidemic. Military bases tend to be out of the way, so I've had my share of small town experiences.

None as small as Smallville, admittedly.

So can I ask how you got into magic, then?

[ And yet... that name is actually familiar to Sawyer and it doesn't take longer than Lois to ask about her getting into magic, for Sawyer to realize why. (Wis 17.)]

Wait, sorry - Smallville?

[ She kinda doubted there'd be two towns with that unfortunate name. ]

You're, Clark's friend? The one he recruited?

[ her eyebrows loft a bit with surprise, before she smiles reflexively ] Yep, that's me. Gotta say, I'm surprised he did. I always thought he couldn't get away from me fast enough. [ there's enough of a twist of humor in the words to make it clear she's joking. mostly. ]

[incantatio]

Yeah, I doubt that. [ Chuckling. ] He said he almost didn't come with us to S.H.I.E.L.D. But, you're here.

[ Her hand twirling through the air as if to say, you coming sealed the deal for him. ]

Not that I think he wouldn't have. That's just not how Clark's wired.

[loisfuckinglane]

[ with a 24 bluff, lois schools her features from showing the surprise she feels at that - particularly the wistful twist somewhere deep inside that it brings with it ] Of course not. I'm pretty sure he was born with a full set of Eagle Scout badges.

But you're definitely wrong on the other count. He just brought me along for the ride because I didn't leave him much of a choice.

[incantatio]

[ And with a 32 Sense Motive... Sawyer sees right through that shit and there's a slight lift of her eyebrows, the parting of her lips. Just a ripple of understanding that plays across her features before she wipes it away. ]

Oh yeah. Is that a farmboy thing or just a Clark thing?

[ Her head cocks to the side and she does consider just letting it go, but for whatever reason? Lois either isn't giving Clark enough credit... or herself. ]

Mmmm... I don't think I am? I mean, he didn't even need to mention you to me.

I'm pretty sure he's convinced I should come with a warning label.

And yet here you are. [ A small grin playing across her lips. ]

Clark doesn't strike me as the sort of person who would bring just anyone in. Choice or no.

[ that brings a smile to her face in spite of herself, one that she wishes she could push away but nope ] Maybe he just realized he needs someone around to keep him in line.

So what made you want to join up anyway? Aside from Clark.

I've seen what's happening in this country, to a lot of innocent people. I try to help by getting that info out there as a journalist, but right now, we need a little more help in the hands on department.

[incantatio]

We seem to have plenty of that at the moment. [ Yet she doesn't sound entirely happy about it? Could be because ya know. She's referring to Hellsing and S.H.I.E.L.D. ]

Ok, but hands that understand how people actually work.

[ The ghost of a smile touches her lips, Sawyer nodding. ]

Those we could always use more of.

So... you're a journalist? [ A beat. ] Still?

Technically? I asked for a sabbatical, and said I was doing some digging on a big assignment... At first I wasn't sure if I was going to report on the Knights or not, but now that that's a resounding "not", I figure stopping Blade is the story of the century.

[incantatio]

Honestly? Sometimes I think it wouldn't be so bad if people knew about the Knights. Especially with Blade.

[loisfuckinglane]

I mean, aside from the part where they probably violate international laws on the reg.

[incantatio]

I was thinking we leave that part out of the press release. [ A grin playing across her lips at the end. ] I just think it would be good for both sides to see Shadowkind and Humans working together.

[loisfuckinglane]

Not arguing that. Especially now.

[incantatio]

[ /Spends ten minutes thinking of a reply that still works in their current briefing. ]

I think a little inspiration could go a long way.

[loisfuckinglane]

Hey, I'll all about inspiration. That's why we're here, isn't it? Beacon of hope and all.

[incantatio]

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

[ She allows that quote to hang for a moment then shrugs. ]

That's why I'm here. I think we all have our reasons but in the end, it boils down to the fact that not being here seems worse.

Every little bit helps if it comes to making sure the world isn't run by a psycho dark elf pseudo-god tomorrow.

[incantatio]

That almost seems like the easy part. [ Her expression grim and emotion that she's trying to conceal is clearly felt by her familiar as he scrambles closer and rubs his cheek against her knee. ]

Stopping him will only be the beginning.
