[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. [he isn't the only one who shouldn't be left alone for too long, but one does what they will when given too much time and a big castle to explore. Along the way, Baal had also found the firing range and was looking at the weapons that were available to practice with. None of these guns are familiar, and he's just taking his first shot when Nick entered, which he fails miserably at, and then chuckles to himself as he looks up at the man]

Better to learn the weapons here and not when it matters, yes?

Always a good motto, I've found.

[ Hawley's saunter is easy and comfortable as he steps inside. he'd found this place the other day, but this is the first time he's been back to give it a practical tryout. He hadn't anticipated finding anyone else here, but he doesn't mind the company either. He eyes the target the man had been shooting at, then nods his head in the general direction of the weapon, and the unfamiliar way the man is holding it. ]

Not something you've shot before, I take it? [ He's not judging, merely observing. ]

No, I am used to a different caliber, I think. It takes some time to adjust your grip and sights, but I should be able to figure it out soon.

[he gave a small smirk up to the man]

Are you new here as well?

[procurer]

Completely. [ Hawley volunteers the information with a cheerful grin, looking as if he's not all that bothered by being the newbie on the grounds. So far it's actually proved to be pretty interesting. ] Nick Hawley.

What caliber are you used to? Something they don't have here or are you just widening your repertoire of deadly weapons?

Automatic rifles, actually. These are not unfamiliar, just not practiced at targets often. I am called Baal.

[procurer]

[ The name's an unusual one and it's enough to pique Hawley's somewhat specialized field of interest as he tips his head to the side in curiosity. ]

Like the Phoenician one or is that just a more common name where you come from?

[ At the mention of the weapons, however, he chuckles and picks up one of the handguns, checking it over. ] Ahh, I see where you might have an adjustment, then. These are considerably.... daintier seems like the wrong word here, but you get the idea.

Close. I was born in Egypt, and it is a name with origins there. From what I gather, it is not a common name, but it is not and unknown name either.

[how's that for an answer?]

That they are. But the adjustment should not take long to lear.

[he went to raise the gun back up at the target again. He took a moment to adjust his grip on the gun, and then fired. atk 25 will give him a fairly good hit on the target this time and he will nod in approval]

Much better, yes?

[procurer]

[ Hawley snaps his fingers, looking pleased. ] Storm god, right? Forgot he was shared around quite a bit back in the day. Makes sense now. Pleasure then, Baal.

[ He pauses to watch the man sight and shoot and gives a low whistle, dipping his head in an agreeable nod. ]

Much. You've got a good eye and a steady hand. I think you'll pick it up in no time. So how'd you get dragged into all this? If you don't mind me asking?

[ He peruses the selection of handguns before picking up a .45 to try out, examining it with a critical eye before loading it for practice. ]

[he grinned, and the nodded. Both for the pleasure, and the compliment]

I don't mind. We all have our stories. I was just in the right place with the right information. You?

[procurer]

I think it was more I was at the wrong place at the right time, but it landed me here all the same. [ Hawley chuckles and shakes his head, looking amused. ] I'm not sure how much help I actually was, but apparently it still counted for something.

Sometimes it is not how much you help, but the way you help that matters in the end.

[he looked at the target]

How good of a shot are you?

[procurer]

[ Instead of answering right away, Nick falls into an easy stance and focuses, letting everything else fade out as he empties the clip in quick succession. He's got a good eye - most hit close to center, although a few have a tendency to drift to the right. He's still working on that.

He lowers the gun again with a grin and a sideways glance. ]

Better when the target's not moving or shooting me back, to be honest, but good enough.

Would you care for a friendly wager then? [old habits died hard]

[ Nick's not usually one for walking away from a bet, especially when his chances are good. He breaks into a grin and cocks his head to the side, eyeing the man curiously. ]

Depends. What are we talking?

A few dollars. Six shots, whoever has the better targeting wins? Perhaps a bit of competition will help steady my arm more.
