[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. David returns from Atlantis and he's not exactly the most talkative - then again, he rarely ever is. He certainly falls back into his routine easily enough, picking up his regular training schedule where he left off, and making sure he met with each of his students as well as his squires. Whether he's in the training room or outside in the spot he has scouted on the grounds, he'll play to his sparring partner's preference. If it's a nice day, he's outside more often than not, even if it's just something as simple as sitting out on the grounds reading the paper.

When he's not training, he can be found in the library, brushing up on his mythology and the changes to Poseidon, Mystra and Circe in this universe. He also will drop by the kitchen regularly for most meals. He's a little predictable and doesn't really vary his routine a lot, but he keeps busy and that's the part that matters.

[He gives her some time after they return to acclimate and process before he tracks her down to see her. He knows that a lot happened and while Zatanna is off trying to find their hail mary, he'll do as she asked and keep an eye on Emma and Amara. He isn't really sure what he'll say to her, but he will come bearing doughnuts.

(He would come with coffee but he doesn't know if she drinks coffee or how she takes it. Same for tea, really. He feels like doughnuts are just the safest option.

Who doesn't like doughnuts?)

He takes a deep breath, before making his way closer and knocking on the door. Hopefully she's in her room, and if not, he'll keep looking.]

[ When he came looking, she wasn't in her room—but she was on her way back to it. Sopping wet and wrapped in a towel, Emma looked worse for wear, exhausted, and relatively grouchy, but at the sight of the box in his hands, she at least seemed to disarm somewhat. ]

You need something?

[ She stopped a couple feet from where he stood at the door to her room, lifting her chin in a half-nod to indicate the box in his hands. ]

You look ready to ask for a favor.

[He blinks at the implication, before shaking his head.]

No, sorry. I just ... wanted to see how you were doing, and it felt weird coming empty handed.

[He pauses, before flipping the top on the box.]

Breakfast?

[ Wary to accept the food lest it mean accepting the comfort, Emma visibly waffled for a moment. Eventually, though, she reached out and grabbed a bear claw, moving past him to bump her door open with her hip. ]

You don't have to hover.

[His brow furrows in confusion, before he shakes his head.]

I wasn't going to. Just checking in.

[Maybe this was a bad idea - doughnuts or otherwise. He's also not particularly good at this, so maybe he's doing it wrong.]

Sorry. I didn't mean to bother you.

[ As she heads into her room, she waves David in with her. ]

It's fine. That's my point: I'm fine. I knew what I was getting into when I took this on myself. Lila's safe: that's what counts.

[ She stuffs the donut between her teeth and pulls the towel off her shoulders, dropping it to her bed. ]

[He takes a deep breath as he follows her, grabbing one of the plain doughnuts from the box and shrugging his shoulders.]

I've dealt with the backlash of gods before. And yeah, Lila's safe, but Poseidon still turned you into a monster. That's not okay.

[That is a lesson he's learned the hard way. Even if you bring it on yourself, or are the victim of it, that doesn't mean you have to be okay, or okay with it happening to you. But he's also careful not to assume that she wouldn't be okay, either.]

I'm not saying I'm expecting you to be one way or another. Just ... checking in to see which one it was.

[Just if she's okay, then that's good, and if she isn't then that's okay too. And if anything, he can be someone she can vent at, even if he's not actually useful. He doesn't mind being a punching bag.]

[ The donut gets set on a napkin on her dresser. She drags her fingers back through her hair as he says monster, like she needs to remind herself that she's human now. Pacing across her room, she seems to battle herself over her answer, which at least gives the impression she wants to offer him a genuine reply.

Finally, she turns. ] You ever have kids?

Erica walks outside to meet David for a training session now that he's back and they can pick these up again. Luckily, the weather's nice enough for doing this outside today as opposed to inside; inside gets kinda boring after a while. She sort of gently tosses her water bottle to the side on the ground when she reaches the spot they're meeting at.

"Hi." It's a short and to the point greeting (accompanied by a short wave to match) spoken in a tone that's not unfriendly - but also not overly excited or anything either.

The good thing about this training session is that it's probably a little later than their normal sessions would be, given that David probably arrived back at the castle again and passed out hard. But he needs to get back into his routine, so back to training it is.

"Hey," he says with a nod. They've been at it long enough at this point that she's gotten used to the routine of it, so he's willing to give her a little more of the reins. "What do you want to work on today?"

"Maybe just hand to hand/sparring kind of stuff? I've been spending time in the gym working with punching bags and such but there's only so much that can do after a while." She needs more actual practice with it, anyway.

David nods in agreement. Sparring is always his preferred training method, and it's the part that as a mentor he's best at. He backs up to the clear field that he's been using for training and gets into a comfortable stance.

"Okay. Come at me."

They don't really need a lot of talking before hand.

Moving herself to a comfortable stance as well once they're in the clear field, she nods to him in a silent reply to ... his nod. Yes. She'll start out kind of simple, with just trying to get a basic punch in. (the dice have spoken and say her attack attempt is only a 7)

She misses him so widely that he doesn't even bother to move, just sighs heavily as he watches her swing fly past him. "Come on, focus. It's not like I'm a small target." It's dry, but it's not cruel. He knows she can do better than that.

"I was." Maybe. Kind of. Not really. She sighs and re-positions herself to go at it again, this time with a more determined look on her face too, just because. (attack 12)

[ As soon as she comes back from L.A., Lydia throws herself more aggressively into her training. If winding up in the hospital after Halloween had made her more committed, that commitment only grew with her increased frustration at her lack of utility every time one of her mission teams wound up in combat. Helen may have approved her promotion, but Lydia wasn't feeling like she deserved it right about now.

Her frustration was mirrored in her practice with David, and reflected some intrinsically dangerous training behaviors. Pushing herself too hard. At least she'd graduated from bag drills. She dropped her hands to her side, sniffing back a weary breath and wiping sweat out of her face as she finished a set of warm-up blows.

It's obvious in how she carries her weight: Lydia struggles with training because she expects to be as naturally gifted with it as she is with dance, ice-skating, and anything she applies her mind to. But she's simply not: she doesn't have the strength built up, and she hasn't quite learned how to use her speed and dexterity to her advantage in its stead. ]

Again. [ She grabs her water bottle, takes a drink from the nozzle, and then sets it aside, shaking her hands out and nodding to David to step up and spar with her. ]

[David watches her closely, making sure she doesn't push herself to the point of hurting herself. He knows that something is bothering her, and he can hazard a guess as to what it is, because it intensifies with each mission she comes off of, but they're making progress, slowly but surely.]

Remember, protect your face.

[And he'll open this time with a swing towards her left (attack 20).]

[ The blow connects despite a near-miss, but she can't get out of the way fast enough and catches it in the chin. She twists her head away, raising one leg in preparation to kick out at his ribcage, but she leans her weight too far back and crashes to the floor instead (crit failllllll). She slaps her hands on the mat and lets out a dissatisfied groan as she tips her head back. ]

[David pauses for a moment, before making his way closer and moving to sit next to her. He's not going to help her up quite yet because he's definitely picking up on something being wrong (sense motive 24). Her progress has always been a sore point, and it seems to especially be one today.]

Are you okay?

[immuno]

[ She rolls her eyes, clearly not welcoming the question. She rolls to her side, pushes herself up, and adjusts her ponytail with a huff. ]

I'm fine.

[ She turns back to look at him once her hair is fixed, gaze narrow. She's not fine, of course. She's frustrated, and David would definitely get the impression it has to do with how her determination has been ramping up from this recent string of missions. It's no wonder she's burnt out and sloppy: she's been pushing herself probably beyond what's reasonable. ]

[He doesn't get up quiet yet, because he's just going to continue watching her for a moment before calling her out.]

You're frustrated and sloppy and you're not thinking. You've been pushing yourself really hard lately, but it's not doing you any favors.

[She shouldn't be coming that hard into a spar.]

You sure you're okay?

I didn't know people still read newspapers recreationally. [ which sounds very young, but it's really just the mark of growing up in the technological age. she remembers the fuzzy noise of dial-up, but just barely. she used encarta! ...once.

and she's teasing anyway, holding out a cup of coffee for him as she sits down next to him in a familiar mid-morning ritual. david is comforting to her, because he reminds her of aaron and her dad combined, and she appreciates the strong, silent types. ]

Can I have the jumble yet?

[David pauses before taking the coffee, sorting through the pages and pulling out what she's looking for, then trading it for the coffee.]

What can I say? I'm just old fashioned that way.
