With most of the team staunchly convinced that about to go check out Area 51, they head off to Guadalajara, Mexico, to investigate local rumors of a crash site outside the city. One of the best things about this little trip is that even in February, it's in the seventies, so there's definitely a vacation air to arriving in the bustling city. They'll need to rent a car and head out in the direction of the supposed crash in the flat countryside. It's a fourteen hour flight so get comfortable.

[She frowns slightly as she listens to the report.]

Huh.

[And with that she glances back to the rest of the group.]

He says it's pretty small. One facility in the center of the field, with a lot of fences and no visible people. You'd think if this was some kind of giant government conspiracy they'd have people everywhere.

[ambitionist]

Maybe it's all underground. Like ants.

[hacker]

Or maybe, [ She says it like she's excited about the possibility, ] It's invisible.

I think underground is more likely. Invisibility is kind of a waste if whatever is spelled doesn't move, 'cause once you've found it you know it's there.

Snipers are probably around to account for the lack of visible personnel. Fences are, presumably, electrified the further in you go, most likely warded with alarm spells and key cards and biometrics scanners at every gate and door. Lasers, motion sensors, silent alarms, cameras everywhere, though whether they're monitored or just recorded is up in the air. I would figure monitored just to be safe.

[ leaning back in her seat, she quickly scoops her hair up and secures it back into her ponytail. ]

[ peter raises his eyebrows as he looks over at kali like who ARE YOU but then turns to nod curtly, adding: ] Uh. What she said.

[Malina nods as she takes that in, running her thumb over the nails on the fingers of her right hand. Yeah, that's not going to be easy.]

I can try and take out the alarm spells before we get there, and I could take a shot at taking out the electrical systems by overloading the circuits, but I can't really do anything about the snipers.

[There's a beat and she glances back to Skye:]

Could you hack the biometrics and the security feed?

[hacker]

Sure. Give me ... fifteen minutes?

[ Simple shrug. ]

I can loop the security feed, no problem. I could probably shut down any other security, too. Lasers, alarms—anything non-magical.

Excellent. So then we just have to worry about snipers and magic, which I can handle.

[She pauses before glancing back to Kali. She seems to know the most, so let's put that to use.]

If you were putting snipers on this spot, where would you put them?

[felidity]

Within sight of every gate or door. But a sniper can be at the very least 500 meters away. A decent one can be up to 1000 meters. Guard towers would be visible and an obvious bet, but the roof and top floor are just as likely to hold a threat.

[ so what she means is literally anywhere. ]

If we look like we're meant to be there, which may be difficult in the van, they'll probably hold fire until they find out who we are. [ she makes a face before adding: ] I might be able to get someone in since I still have US government identification and they might greenlight that for diplomatic reasons. Or alternately get their hands on millions of dollars worth of military R&D.

I can magically alter my clothes so I can at least look the part unless we want to go with another story.

[She pauses for a moment, rubbing her chin gently.]

We could claim we were undercover. It would explain the lack of credentials and proper government attire.

[She glances over the group for a moment, drumming her fingers against the side of the door and looking to Alex.]

How's your g-man?

[ambitionist]

[he stares at her a minute like is she asking me about my dick???? THIS IS A VERY INAPPROPRIATE TIME, MALINA before he realizes what's actually happening.] Probably at the best it can be since I just finished watching Criminal Minds.

[hacker]

So I should just ... drive up, and we walk in the front door? That's the plan?

[ Skye sounds like she's hella unsure of this plan, but also doesn't offer a better one. So. ]

[starprince]

As plans go, it's reckless, kinda stupid, and bound to end in a shoot out. [ he shrugs in approval ] I like it.

[felidity]

On that note, do you have any weapons? [ her eyes flick between skye and peter. and then alex, malina, and carol. look, she doesn't know what they all packed. she is a weapon all by herself, but you can bet she is armed all over the place. to the point that she can share if need be. ]

[bredinthebone]

[She holds up her hands again, indicating that she's got all of the weapons she needs.]

As I said. I've got my usual tricks.

[But moving on.]

And yeah, it's not the greatest plan in the world, but right now it's the best one we've got.

[There isn't enough overt evidence to make her turn around, and even if there were, she has a feeling that Peter isn't going to leave without his ship, no matter what she says.]

[hacker]

What, me?

[ Skye glances up at Kali in the rear view mirror, uncomfortable and put on the spot. Then her gaze flickers around the other faces in the van. ]

I'm a hacker—slash ... blogger slash activist, whatever—not a ... whatever you people are. [ Settling the van into park, she throws one arm over the back of Malina's seat and cranes back to look at them all. ] Just who the hell are you people?

[ambitionist]

[meanwhile in the bg of this alex is like counting off on his fingers to remember the shit he brought:] Gun, knife, taser, ... me ... yeah, I'm good.

[what's that? skye was asking a question???] Uh, we're kind of like the Men in Black, except instead of the alien angle it's usually just weird fuckin' shit.

[airforceful]

[Carol holds up a fist and it glows with power. She smirks.]

I can handle anything they throw at me.

[felidity]

[ okay so back to skye and peter then. ]

Would you like a weapon? I have spares.

[hacker]

Hey, whoa, these people are government. Should we really be shooting our way in there? Those are innocent people. Or ... [ she shakes her head, cheeks puffing out slightly as she recants, ] semi-innocent.

[ambitionist]

We're not going in guns blazing. Just drawing up contingency plans.

[hacker]

[ She waffles, visibly uncertain for a moment, then reaches her hand out into the back of the van to accept a weapon from Kali. ]

[felidity]

[ after some wriggling, she slips off her concealed holster and passes it and the excalibur up. ] Alex is right, it's just back up. But if it comes down to it and you don't feel comfortable using it, just stay with me. I'll make sure you get out safely.

[ she doesn't look like she can make that happen, all five foot nothing of a thin frame that could be bowled over but a stiff wind, but there is a seriousness in her tone that promises she will do just that if skye needs her to, without fail and with no thought to her own safety in doing so. skye is a civilian and kali was made to protect them. ]

[hacker]

[ She closes her hand around the grip of the gun and turns it over in her hand, sizing it up. Then she starts rigging the concealed holster onto herself. It's an easy fit—she and Kali are roughly the same size—and she doesn't look ready to doubt Kali's abilities. ]

Things never go as smoothly as you want them to. It doesn't hurt to be prepared in case something goes wrong. But if you don't have to get close for the hack and want to hang back and work things from a distance, that's fine too.

[She's not part of the team, and she doesn't have to go that extra mile if she doesn't want to. Malina's spent enough time around members of the Hoard to know that the distance a computer provides is armor in and of itself (wisdom 15).]

[They've got two tanks, two conartists and enough magic and weapons that their disposal to even the playing field.]
