[He considers for a moment before nodding with a soft laugh.]

That seems like a good reason for a job change.

[His head tips to the side as he considers for a moment.]

So why did you decide to stay?

I couldn't go back and, well, Wynn sold me on putting what my dad taught me to good use. After a while... it just felt like home, the good parts. My parents never instilled in us to do the right thing, but Detective Lance and Laurel were all about helping where you can and I guess I needed that.

[supertardiness]

[He nods in agreement.]

Yeah, I've always needed that too. I mean, working with the police was me trying to prove my dad's innocence, but becoming the Flash ... it was more than that, you know? Like I had this gift and people who would help me do good with it. I could save people I couldn't save before.

[Like his mom, even if that didn't work out.]

[ thea wants to ask if he has a no killing policy but that seems rude. but then... she asks anyway. ]

On the scale of what you do to bad guys, are you more like Batman or Spider-man?

[supertardiness]

[That is an excellent question. He pauses for a moment before making a face as he tries to figure it out.]

If they're human, than I usually just drop them off with the cops. [he absently grins.] One time, in the middle of the high speed chase, I cuffed the bad guys and dropped them in the back of the patrol cars without even needing to stop.

[Barry that is not a good idea and incredibly unsafe.]

Metahumans are another story though. There wasn't any real prison for them that could hold them, so we built containment cells for them at STAR Labs that neutralized their abilities.

[ but he doesn't kill them, that's what thea wanted to know, nodding slowly even as she cracks a smile at his story. ]

Neutralized how? Like you guys figured out how to shut them off?

[supertardiness]

More like contain them? Like ... their abilities are a part of them. The particle accelerator fundamentally changed their body chemistry. But the pipeline also got changed too and ...

[SCIENCE! SO MUCH SCIENCE. ALL OF THE SCIENCE.

And they're going to keep moving and keep drinking while Barry sciences.]

[ almost none of that makes sense to thea, tbqh, so she pays for their drinks and gently steers him out of this pub and to one a couple bars down as he's still trying to explain science things to her. she doesn't interrupt, just herds him like an excited puppy, pausing as they enter the second bar to casually note: ]

Look, festive holiday themed karaoke. Let's get some more drinks.

[supertardiness]

[And he's been distracted enough that he doesn't even remember previous objection to karaoke (wisdom 2). He's just distracted by all the new, but is all for more drinks.]

Yes! Drinks! Let's do it.

[ yes, success! she shoves him toward a little table and grabs them another pair of drinks before slipping gracefully into the second chair. ]

Whatcha gonna sing? [ she slides the glass across the table with a sweet smile. ]

Not Summer Nights.

[That is a Caitlin Snow exclusive, and it feels weird doing it without her. And it makes him miss her. So no, that's not fun. He's just going to take his drink and down it without comment before shrugging.]

I don't know yet. I'm gonna think on it.

[ so the bonus of drinking with a guy who doesn't think he can get drunk is that damn he literally just drinks anything she puts in front of him, it's precious. she's got a happy little buzz going so she just sips hers. ]

How're you feeling, Sir Can't Get Drunk?

[Yeah, Barry doesn't even catch on to the fact that he's already kind of buzzed himself (wisdom crit fail). He's just feeling good and is in an excellent mood and he's just going to finish the drink Thea gave him and nods.]

Awesome. Let's do this.

[Meaning karaoke. Prepare to have happy ears, random karaoke bar!]

I think you have to sign up first. So why don't you do that. [ she will get them... more drinks. ]

[He nods in agreement, before making his way up to the front.]

Sure, why not. [ it's not like she knows anyone here, she can make a fool out of herself. ] Monster by Nicki Minaj. [ and she will head off for drinks before meeting him back at the table. ]

[supertardiness]

[Barry will dutifully put her on the list before flipping through the songs, trying to figure his out, and when he comes up with a song that sufficiently amuses him, and then back to the table he goes.]

I think there are only a couple people ahead of us.

Awesome. I've only actually ever done karaoke in the living room with Tommy and Laurel. [ and ollie. which makes her sad and makes her down the rest of her first drink before she sets in on the second. stupid emotions. ] I had a little machine you could plug into the TV. Laurel and I killed it with the Spice Girls.

[supertardiness]

Nice.

[Because you can't really say anything else when they're killing it with the Spice Girls.]

I did karaoke with my friend Caitlin. We were "on a case" technically, but we were also trying to have more fun.

Did you sing... Summer Nights? [ just a very perceptive guess. ]

[supertardiness]

[She is very perceptive.]

[He sighs softly.]

I miss her. She would get such a kick out of the Hoard labs.

Maybe she'll show up one day. Sara did, out of the fucking blue. Made all the weirder since... she's dead.

[His eyes widen a bit at that because yeah. That's something Felicity left out of the welcome package.]

Seriously? How?

How is she alive again or how did she die? I don't know the answer to either. Laurel said she got in with some bad people, but it wasn't like I was going to press. Sara had already died, for us, we buried her. It's definitely worse the second time around.

[supertardiness]

[Barry's face softens a bit, because he knows even less about Sara's situation than Thea does, beyond the fact that Caitlin was running some texts for Felicity about it.]
