[Pizza Pilgrims is a bit out of the way for Jo as she makes her way back to the castle, but she's heard the detour is worth it and figures it's been a while since she's had good pizza and why not adventure out with something new? It dawns on her as she watches the guys swing by to pick up their orders with bouquets of flowers in hand.]

Great. [The only thing Jo likes about Valentine's Day is the discount chocolate the day after and that's really pushing it, because she'll take a Nestle Crunch over some fancy expresso dusted, dark chocolate coated truffle. What it means for her right now, is that her pizza is going to take a while, because she didn't call ahead and they've got all the orders from guys that thought ahead enough to call in their order.

Finally, though, she got her pie and she's allowed that aroma to float through the castle - from the lobby to the kitchen where she's planning on stuffing her face and drinking some beer.]

[You know who probably doesn't even realize that it's Valentine's Day and also doesn't care? This guy. David is also incredibly pissed at Deadpool so right now he's taking it out on a punching bag in the gym. He's wandered down to the kitchen for some water after a long session with the heavy bag, when he catches the scent of the pizza.]

That smells amazing.

[Jo will lift up a slice and look at him with a look that can only be described as cruel innocence.]

You mean this? This slice of heaven, right here?

[He laughs softly.]

Yes, that. It feels like forever since I've had good pizza.

[Jo gestures to the box, nodding.]

Go ahead and take a slice. I might be capable of eating the whole thing without help, but that doesn't mean I should.

[He flashes her a grin, before reaching forward and picking up a piece, before raising it to her with a nod.]

Thanks. I appreciate it.

[Jo swallows her bite and nods.]

I figure, I won't eat it all and then it'll go in the fridge where you could've ended up with reheated pizza. It would've been a crime.

[He nods as he takes a bite, before leaning back with a content hum.]

Reheated pizza is just not good pizza. Especially when it tastes like this fresh.

I try to tell people that, but there are some ridiculous people who actually eat it cold.

[He makes a face.]

There's so much grease on it then. Not that there isn't grease now, but at least you can't see it.

[ there's one guy who comes in with zero flowers in hand, but he doesn't leave with a pizza either... a blonde dude in a trenchcoat, with a thin red tie the only indicator of any potential valentine's day spirit (lmao).

instead, he glances around before walking right into the kitchen, and a little while later, comes out with a package stuffed under his arm, that she can make a spot check on.

he notices her looking, as he tosses a coin into the tip jar, and he tosses her a cheeky wink. ]

[Jo feels like she practically lived in a bar for most of her life. It's basically true, but it just means that she's usually more aware of things when she's in a kitchen/food environment. She's always looking for the guy that'll make trouble. She's not quite Jason-Bourne-ing the place up with all the exits and counting how many people are in here, but she's keeping an eye out for trouble.

When someone comes off the street and straight into the back, that's usually one of two things: employee or someone who wants everyone to think they're an employee. [ well, it's definitely not a pizza.

the package is poorly wrapped in brown paper, but she can catch glimpses of marble beneath - it appears to be some kind of statuette. what would strike her as especially strange is that there are odd markings drawn on the packaging itself - that look like magical sigils. ]

[She's still in line when the guy walks out and she definitely catches site of something curious in that package. On one hand, she really wants to just get her pizza and go home to sweatpants and a tank top. On the other hand, it's been a while since she's dealt with any sort of mystical artifact. It reminds her of Bela a bit and that sparks her interest.

Pizza can wait and she apologizes to the guy behind her and opts to duck out and see if she can follow him. (spot 28)]

[ pretty easily, actually, and he doesn't seem to notice, whatsoever. he ducks into a shitty flat a few blocks away. ]

[There's a split second where she wonders if she's getting in over her head by following this guy, but then she pushes that concern off pretty easily when he doesn't even seem to notice her behind him. She figures there's no harm in just seeing what he's up to. No one needs a sudden demon conjuring in the middle of the city on Valentine's Day. She waits a few minutes before she makes her way into the flat, keeping herself alert. (spot 16 | listen 22 | move silently 14 )]

[ she hears his footsteps creaking on stairs above, and follows up as quietly as she can. the door to his flat isn't even closed all the way, and she'd hear the unwrapping of some paper within around the corner. she can see the disordered interior through the crack, a number of books and scrolls spilling open across tables. the walls are scrawled with more of those symbols just about on every other surface. ]

[She frowns as she glances into his apartment. She retrieves her phone from her back pocket and turns it to silent (knowledge tech 16) before opting to use the camera on her phone to try and get a better idea of the symbols. She tries to snap a few pictures (craft visual art??? 11)]

[Jo frowns to herself. She's thinking that he's making a call, but she didn't see a phone and the thought comes to her about things she's read about demons -- things she's known about them from her own world. Using items, using blood to try and reach out to higher powers. If this guy is trying to summon something or even just reach out and touch something evil -- she should stop him, right?

Of course, she can't just barge into his apartment and accuse him of something.

Or can she?

She takes a few quiet steps away from his door (move silently 16) heading back toward the stairwell and then pauses for a moment before taking actual steps back toward his door, trying to make it seem like she's just taking a normal stroll down the hallway.

She knocks on his cracked door.]

Hello? Is anyone home? I'm just trying to find someone to help me with my water heater. [Bluff NAT 20 / 27 total)]

Oh for the love of-- [ and then louder: ] GIVE ME A TIC.

[Nope. Not giving him a tic or a sec or a mo' or anything.

She's just wandering into his apartment, snooping as one does (spot 12) poorly...]

You really shouldn't just leave your door open like that. I've heard some pretty crazy things about homeless people.

[ annnnd there's constantine, newspapers spread over his kitchen table, symbols scrawled in what looks like blood that... probably comes from the dead chicken nearby, the brown wrapping of the package he'd carried laying cast aside. a little bronze statuette sits in the middle of the etchings, some kind of herbs sprinkled around it, more of them in a bowl in Constantine's hand.

he stares for a moment, halfway in the act of throwing more herbs at it, staring at her for a moment, and then back at the table, before offering her a grin ] ... Not what it looks like. Maybe.

[Jo takes a beat, surveying the scene and furrows her brow.]

It kinda looks like something demonic is going down. I mean, not of the voodoo hoodoo variety of things. [She shrugs.] But, I could be wrong.

Demonic? [ he looks positively affronted. ] ... Is it the chicken?
