[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of this half of the month.

[ All squires have to do their time assigned to desk duty once in awhile. They're required to monitor activity at the front gate, have guests sign in to a large, ancient looking yellowing tome, direct inquiries, disperse and record keys to company vehicles, etc. This job seen as a test of patience and responsibility. The job also entails fielding any phone calls made to the "Karthur Institute", the Knights' cover organization, and doing their best to discourage questioning (by putting people on hold eternally, accidentally hanging on them when transferring their call, answering questions as vaguely as possible, etc. etc.). Shifts at "the desk" are scheduled in eight hour blocks. Food is brought out to the desk by the kitchen staff.

Feel free to rp out your time on desk duty here... you never know who might show up. ]

[Oh boy, guess who's the absolute worst at this? Killian "what is that strange device and why is it making a ringing noise" Jones.

Currently, he's napping. Which means he's doing a much better job than when he's awake, honestly.]

[Faye has no reason to be at the desk, but when she walks past and catches sight of the sleeping pirate, she can't resist. She slides up to the desk, glancing around before clearing her throat loudly.]

[Hook opens his eyes lazily and smirks at her.]

Were you sent to entertain me?

[Ring ring. The phone is ringing and the scruffy dude is sleeping, so while Violet is walking past, she dangles over the desk and scoops up the phone, poking the sleeping dragon while she's at it.

The person on the other end of the phone gets to hear the most chipper of all voices.]

Hello, you've reached the Karthur Institute, this is Alexandrina speaking, how may I direct your call, Sir or Madame? [She pauses to listen. 'sup, bro.] Oh, I'm so sorry to have to tell you, but I'm afraid he's died. It was rather sudden. You're welcome to make a small donation to a charity of your choosing in his honor or a floral arraignment that I will personally make sure his friends and family receive... Yes, mhmm. Have a super day!

[And that is how you answer a damn phone.]

[Hook blinks awake, looking completely unashamed at how little he's taking his duties seriously. His feet are propped up on the desk, and he doesn't move when she pokes him, just smirks up at her as she finishes her phone conversation.]

Want to switch places? You're better at it.

[ emma will be walking by and slapping a hand loudly on the desk. ]

Wake up, moron. I'm your relief.

[He opens his eyes and lets a slow smile spread across his face.] And what a relief you are. Hello, gorgeous.

I can certainly transfer you, if you wouldn't mind holding a moment. Wonderful, thank you.

[Lila cradled the phone gently, wrinkling her nose at her own sickly sweet and charming voice. She spent a minute looking at her book before picking up the phone again, her voice falling into the stereotypical Jersey nasal tones that the "Real" Housewives had.]

T&A Mortuary, you stab 'em, we slab 'em. [A pause.] Nah, sorry, wrong number. Happens all the time.

[She hung up the phone with a plunk and went back to her book. Whoops.]

[ abruptly a laptop case is dropped on the desk in front of her loudly, and when she looks up, zero's hovering ] Glad to see people enjoying their work.

[Ahhh! And her pen goes streaking right across the page, ripping right through it. (Crit fail, a very critical fail.)]

...The librarian is going to kill me. [She glaces up with a scowly pout that turns into a fake smile soon enough.] I love it. How can I help you today, Sir?

You'd think a knighthood like Wynn's could get some kind of automated system to do this for him. [ she leans on the desk, conversational. she's dropping off food from the kitchens for lila. ]

[Foooooood, which is way more important than the person bringing it. Sorry. Give her a second.]

Hundred bucks says it's character building.

[ emma's got her feet kicked up on the desk and a crossword puzzle out. she's chewing on her pencil, and she's spent four of the past six hours in this exact same position. she's ready to be done, except that she's got two hours to go.

she didn't get a fancy wisdom check, so when the phone rings, she just leans forward to grab it off the receiver, and answers; ] Karthur Institute, how may I direct your call? [ she then puts them on hold for five minutes, and disconnects the line shortly thereafter. ]

[ as she pushes the disconnect button, this guy walks up. he's dressed in a gray sweater and black pants, although there's a sword hanging off a belt at his hips. ] Hey, do you know a Knight named Lila?

[ her gaze flickers up from her book of crosswords, and she doesn't shift to straighten up. her gaze goes from his face, to the sword at his hip, thoughtful and reproachful. ]

Depends who's asking.

[THREE HOURS LATER you bet your ass Hook's here with some pizza. And looking damn smug about it.]

This is a delicacy from this world called pizza. It's some sort of sauce and cheese melted on bread with various accoutrements on top. I tried a bit in the kitchen. It's fantastic.

[Did I mention he brought two plates.]

Yeah. Melted cheese on bread, real revolutionary. [ she's rolling her eyes because wow you're brain damaged. but she grabs one of the plates and then ... realizes there are two of them. her brow furrows. ]

What are you doing?

[David doesn't do well with lying. He's just not very good at it. When the phone rings for the first time on his first shift at the desk, he eyes it nervously before picking up on the third ring.]

Karthur Institute. How may I- Sorry? Can you speak up? I can't- I think we have a bad connection. Try again later? Thank you.

[He hangs up quickly, hopeful that the phone won't ring for awhile yet.]

[Hook still has nightmares of his own desk duty, but he still has to walk by sometimes. And when he does, he judges the hell out of David and his phone skills.]

Even I was better at handling the... ringing thing.

[Oh great- this joker. David just shrugs.]

I'm not great at lying on the fly.

[Violet is covered in dirt. Just covered. Doesn't seem like a big deal though since she's smiling happily. She just made that rose bush her bitch and it was awesome. So while she's on her way back to her room to change and not closely resemble Pigpen with his swirly aura of dirt, she's not at all fussed to notice and stop when she sees David. She does make a point to not lean on the desk though, since she's a mess.]

[Once he recognizes her through the dirt, David smiles at the sight of Vi.]

Hey! Huh? Oh... yeah, I guess not.

[ kat's swinging through the lobby on her way to the other end of the castle and she witnesses one of his pathetic attempts at being dishonest and stops, fixing him with a frown, one hand on her hip. ] You poor, unfortunate soul.

[As he hangs up, he realizes that he wasn't alone for that showing and gives an awkward smile.]
