The murder the Knights are sent to investigate took place in an abandoned warehouse, near the largest highway in London. The aging and dilapidated structure is covered with graffiti and bits of rusting metal.

Squad cars and emergency vehicles have surrounded the building. Outside the main entrance, police officers are questioning a small crowd of people when the Knights arrive.

Fred parks the car, and looks across through the passenger window.

"Must be the place. Let's roll."

[Faye called shot-y, I guess. She's the type, alright. She glances out at the warehouse and wrinkles her nose. Gross. But other than a dissatisfied sigh at the setting for their mission, she doesn't actually voice her disgust. In fact, she just moves to open the door and get out of the car.]

[Taradiddle slides out of the car and onto the ground. After a moment, she pulls her cloak off and bunches it up in her arms. It's a little bit conspicuous. Not that she's much better off without it, being a gnome and all, but at least she doesn't look like she's specifically here on a mission.]

[Miles gets out of the other side, peering over the back end of the car toward the building.]

What's the plan? We collecting info first, or just trying to get inside?

Wynn's got us clearance. He has contacts in the police, and they're the ones who sent for us. Follow my lead. [ and with that, he'll march right towards the officers, drawing out a badge that they don't get a good look at it. ] We're with the Karthur Research Institute. They told you we'd be comin'?

[ the officer, half distracted trying to interview the witnesses, takes a cursory look at his badge, and nods, waving them through. fred flips it shut and shoves it in his jacket again, heading up towards the building. ]

[astrid made the most of the time before the left the castle and got dressed. she looks much less like she just woke up now, okay. and she's trailing along after fred. to no one in particular:]

[Alright Fred- that was impressive. Faye strolls on in with the others.]

So do we have any idea what this thing is? [She says in a moderately quiet tone. Not like the police know much more, but if they keep up the air of confidence, they'll be better off.]

What fun would that be? [ the dark and gloomy interior of the warehouse is punctured by a few streams of light from outside, even through the grimy windows. the building is empty, except for a random collection of garbage and debris. the homicide officers and coroner's deputy have just finished bagging up a corpse - there's a chalk outline on the ground showing where two pieces of body had lain. fred pauses a few steps inside, keeping his voice low. ] Why don't we fan out? A couple people question the cops, everyone else take a look around. [ (gather info/diplomacy or search/investigate checks respectively). also listen checks from everyone. ]

[Faye crit failed her listen check, probably because she was really interested in that option where she could question the cops and not go digging around in the dirty warehouse. She half raises her hand.]

Dibs on cop talk. [Anyone else can come with her, that's cool. But she's not waiting for them. Breaking off, Faye makes her way to the nearest man in uniform.]

Hi... [She flashes a smile.] So I was hoping you could catch me up to speed? They brought me in on this last minute. I just hate feeling out of the loop. [Gather Information 23]

[Taradiddle pulls her cloak back on and starts looking around (search 17). She might be able to get some info out of the cops, but she'd rather do things this way. Also she keeps her ears pretty open (listen 25).]

Hilberger Tech // 5:30pm

[ it's easy enough to gps the location in question, and discover that it's a biotech company not too far from the scene of the crime. the building itself is a small, ordinary-looking facility located right on the outskirts of the city, with only a tiny sign to indicate that it houses any sort of business.

when they arrive, there are only a few cars in the parking lot, and no pedestrians in evidence. lights on indicate that the building it still open, however. ]

Doesn't look like much.

Well, yeah, I doubt they're gonna put a sign that says "top secret monster breeding facility" over the door. It would defeat the purpose.

So what's our angle? Interested buyers? Karther Institute fellow researchers?

Why not both? Buyers with a research team. Could get us into a few different areas at once?

[God damnit, Faye. Why must you always suggest splitting the party???]

Kinda thinking we might look suspicious enough with just one lame cover story. Plus, if something goes down, I'd rather we could cover each other's backs.

Why do we need a cover story at all? It doesn't look very high tech. Just wait until everyone goes home, then break in.

Well, the place is called Hilberger Technologies. Just sayin'. Appearances can be deceiving.

Fine. You want one cover? My vote is buyers. If you're dangling money in front of someone, they're more likely to not mind intrusive questions.

The Sewers

[ after securing dr. fulbert for the police to find, they follow the tracker in an effort to track the three loose dinos. the entrance to the storm sewer lies in a culvert filled with brackish water. a large gate has been pried partly open, creating a large enough hole for a person to slip through. a spot check of 10+ reveals that the bars have been bent back by force. numerous scratch marks mar the concrete and metal. ]

Well, that's not ominous at all.

[Faye gets a whopping 7 on her spot so she is not even paying attention. Probably because she's in a sewer. Ew.]

Disgusting is more the word I would use.

Seriously! This is fucking rank. [she is so not down for this, okay. but she does clock those bars. (spot 27)] I guess we're following the scratch marks?

I don't think Ninja Turtles left 'em, so yeah, probably a good bet. [ fred draws the sword that he brought out of the car with him. yep. poking his head in, he frowns. ] Pitch black. Someone wanna shine a little light for me?

[Someone should talk to Faye about spells that are actually helpful on missions. She doesn't have one to help with this. But she does have a flashlight app on her phone. She puts that shit on and holds it out to shine down the tunnel.]

[ as she shines her light down there, it's clear that there's a long main tunnel, which leads off into more darkness. the water inside is knee deep, and as fred moves in, it'd be clear that movement is both slow and noisy (moving inside reduces you to half speed). in the distance, a listen check of 10+ means that a low rush of water can be heard. ] C'mon.

[AT LEAST ALL OF YOU GUYS ARE HUMAN. KNEE DEEP IS REALLY UNPLEASANT FOR THE RESIDENT GNOME, SINCE HER KNEES ARE NOT THE MEASURE.

She hears the water, at least (listen 15), even as she grimaces pretty consistently.]

Why do I get the feeling that isn't the fresh water sewer ahead?

I am taking a dozen showers when we get home.
