[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.
You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. You can also specify 'single thread', meaning you want only one response for all participants, rather than multi-thread, where a number of different scenes/threads can be done as replies to the top prompt.]

But then he's watching Beyoncé's video diary or whatever it is and ukw it ain't horrible. It's not his favorite music ever but her body is kind of insane and she's got some nice visuals to go with dem beats ok.]
I bet it'd be worth it to see her in concert. [And then he realizes that, whoops, people usually come down here for a reason.] Oh, hey, did you need keys or something?
[And then he's flashing back to the last time that she was behind the wheel of a moving vehicle...]

[ She reaches over the desk and pulls a spiral notebook from where it's tucked behind the phone. Her whole shift had been spent studying Shadowkind tongues and history, so notes were seriously required ok. But now she's leaving the notebook on the countertop and leeeaaaaning and making conversation. ]
I wonder if she ever comes to England. Or if we could just charter one of Wynn's planes to see her in New York or somewhere less depressing. [ She watched the news. ]

I'd be down to cross the pond for a concert though. As long as it wasn't in fucking Kansas.

Plus, it's Kansas. Like, outside of The Wizard of Oz, who actually wants to go there anyway?
no subject
Displacer beasts. I didn't think the knights were in the business of hunting them for the sake of hunting them—what were they protecting? [ That's much more interesting than just bitching about Kansas ok. She hasn't been on a mission yet (not an assigned one, anyway, only something she was dragged into), so hearing about them holds some novelty. ]

A bunch of hicks summoned them, or turned into them or something. [We're still in backtag city tho so I can only be vague as fuck.]

Wow that's ... yeah.

So did you get to do anything, or did they just blindfold you and bring you in like they were the mob? [Because that was totally his experience ok. There may or may not have been tears but he ain't sharin' with the class.]
no subject
I helped them find the people responsible for the pile of dead bodies I found in that barn. [ She says it with an unaffected, cold distance. ]

Do you remember anything from before you got here?

Is telepathy genetic, or is it some influence of being born while the Veil's open?
no subject
I mean, obviously you can't know if someone has psionic abilities assuming they're alive while the Veil is down, but I think that's just because the energy isn't there or whatever. Assuming they lived to see it go back up, they'd probably still be able to manifest powers. They'd suck at it, but they could probably still do it.

The conference I attended for first session basically summed up this theory that psions have like, factories in their brain to produce their power or some shit--like we're using part of our brain that most people don't have access to. But without the Eldritch energy, those factories shut down. So even though we can manifest our own power we still get dicked over at the end of the day.
Whether that means just anyone can train themselves to manifest powers or not, I have no idea. I'm leaning toward not, given that magic users are a dime a dozen and psions are considered more of a rare phenomenon.
Plus, my dad and my sister were both able to do the psionic thing, but that might just be because he'd been teaching us how ever since we were really young.

So, here's my question. [ She flips open her notebook and starts to scribble a diagram. ] If all of this magic, and all of these — people, artifacts, places — are coming over from Faerun and other Shadow Worlds to here, what's going to happen as the Veil continues to open?
[ She turns the diagram around with arrows indicating the flood into this world. ]
I wouldn't go so far as to say it violates the Law of Conservation of Mass, but it's definitely walking the line. Mass cannot be created or destroyed because there's a balance in the universe—it can only be changed, but this is a one-way tunnel. After a certain point ... won't we reach some kind of critical mass? [ She looks back down at the diagram, tilting her head. ] And what happens when we do?
no subject
It could be that the Eldritch tide is this universe's way of keeping some sort of balance to prevent that very thing from ever happening. I don't know how that would do anything but slow the process though, because it doesn't really address mass already accumulated from other worlds.
Then again, it's not an exact science either. There's still more that we don't know about the Veil and its effects than what we do know. Most of the shit out there is all theoretical, with just as many critics as it has supporters.
no subject
It's possible it'd never even affect us if it's somewhere far from Earth. This world isn't limited to our tiny corner of the galaxy. I'd be interested in knowing how many Eldritch footprints have been found in space exploration, because there's no saying everything that comes through the Veil has to be concentrated to the one part of the galaxy that can foster its continued existence. It's possible the influx is even greater than we currently realize, or that the universe itself is shrinking to accommodate the growth.
[ Obviously, he's right: there's no exact science. There's too much they don't know, and they aren't able to research it fast enough. ]
If there is a trend, or a consequence of the flow of the Tide on this world, it'll likely be centuries before we can even confirm it.

I just hope that the next dry period doesn't come around until after I'm gone.
