[ it's going to be out of nowhere. but this is a decent interaction. desmond is a veteran not only in this world but with the knights. it's probably his first chance to get real answers, an honest one anyway who has no stake in the game. ]

You know Wynn so well. Pretty soon Elena Gilbert will be found. Everyone falls on some side. Traitor, misunderstood compassion. Do you think Elena will be brought here only to be locked up?

I think it's gonna depend on a lot of things. [This is obviously not a discussion he wants to have, being a friend of Elena.] He's making sure she'll be brought in alive. That tells me he's gonna take the time to hear what she has to say.

He should. [ he considers for a second. new delhi while random offered a good excuse. but, enough people know who he is - or who he thinks he is. maybe he's gone crazy. maybe he doesn't know elena. (no, he knows he knows elena. he has several vivid memories, her name. if only it were easier to convince people of that. ] Elena makes mistakes but only because she believes in the good in people. She doesn't see monsters. She sees people. Wherever she is, she had a good reason for it. She knows what she's doing.

[Des goes quiet for a long time, turning that over in his head.] For all that he did, she might have seen more to him than we did. I think he's a piece of shit, but she knows him. Really knows him.

[He shakes his head.] Sometimes no one's the monster they pretend to be. Or the one people expect them to be.

[That doesn't mean he's forgiven Kyp for what he did to Myri (and Spike), but he's starting to come to terms with the fact that not everything is what kneejerk emotional biases make you think.]

[ Desmond has no idea how hard that hits home. Because sometimes, they are the monster they pretend to be - or the people expect them to be. But, sometimes, if Damon lets himself, he knows he's not complete trash. He's not worthless. He's just chosen second. Always. And he's a monster. ]
