[ She draws back and, smiling, brings her thumb up to smooth tears away from Vi’s cheeks. ]

As much as I like fighting by your side, Vi? I like knowing you’re safe more.

[ vi manages a weak smile in return but there's nothing really behind it. she's spent so long feeling helpless and weak, to the point that it was literally killing her, that the idea of continuing to feel helpless and weak, impotent to help her family, makes her want to be sick. at least this time she made the choice for herself, didn't have it foisted upon her by circumstance and malaak'a's interference. ]

It's a pity, really. [ plucking one of her arrows from her quiver, she rolls it between her fingers. ] This shade of pink would look good on Sandaris.

[ it's a brief, bitter, moment of levity, but it at least marks that she probably won't be sobbing all over buffy again. you know, for at least ten minutes. ]

[ She looks down at the arrow, considering it, and then she turns her attention back up to Vi. Reaching out, she takes one of the arrows. ]

Got anything in crossbow size?

[ Because she’ll put one right in his balls—just for you, girl. ]

No. [ she says it slowly, like she's considering something, sorrow clearing from her expression as thought takes over. ] But I could make you some.

[ yeah, you heard her. the girl makes her own arrows. by hand, all of them. that's why they're pink. ] I have a whole trunk full of these, crossbow bolts wouldn't be that hard.

Not that I don't respect a good shortbow, but ... [ She takes her crossbow off the desk of the next stall. ] Might be easier to sneak onto the Isle. [ The smile she offers is a little grim and a lot morbid, but at least it's a smile. ] I never realized you made your own. Just kinda figured you could order anything off the internet these days.

Well, I mean, you can. I just... don't. I used to make them in the legion and I just kept up. This -- [ she pulls the quiver over her shoulder to indicate what she means by "this". ] Never runs out so long as I have a stock left at home. [ tbh she doesn't fucking know how it works, demigod shit. w/e ] It was just habit to keep making them. Dovan's weapons are amazing, like... a-maz-ing, but. [ shrug. ] Twelve years habit is hard to break.

Hey, can't beat unlimited ammo. [ Buffy sets the crossbow aside again, leaning on the dividing wall. ] Seems like a good way to get out of your head for a while and keep busy.

More like it's the only way I can actually think? My ADD is pretty bad, I need to be doing something or my brain just doesn't fire on all cylinders. It's literally easier for me to think while I'm fighting than it is when there is silence. It's why I'm kind of useless when it comes to talking shit out. Finnick and I spar and it's like... everything makes sense all of a sudden. But making the arrows helps a little, too. [ it's part of the reason she's completely incapable of standing still. even now her fingers are twitching, she's fixing her hair, playing with the fletching on the arrows, fiddling with her necklace. ] I think that's why the Dragon's Light wing weirds me out, it's all... serene. Serene makes me wanna hit things.

I’m not really sure that’s standard operating procedure for a healer.

[ More than anything, she just looks amused. ]

Hitting comes more naturally than healing. Works out in battle though. I beat Finnick up, I heal him, I keep beating him up. [ it's actually much more fair than that, while vi is trained to combat his trident, he's pretty fucking incredible at it. they're a fairly even pair. ]

Why is it that's fair, but when I hit Des, everyone gets all offended?

Because you... weren't practicing. When I hit Finnick it's because we're forcing each other to be better and we're not trying to hurt each other. You just sort of... [ she shrugs. it was a little crazy, ngl. but vi doesn't say that, she's pretty sure the disbelief in her tone that buffy is comparing the two is enough. ]

O ... kay. Well, you know ... kidding, actually. But good lecture to be reminded of.

[ vi has a good memory, she is good at reminders. and in light of elena leaving, she can't help remembering what the teenager said during that messy fight. elena did screw up. were they going to pummel her to a pulp just because they can't control themselves? doppelgängers could live for a while, maybe that'll seem like immortality at the time.

We're fighting monsters. Sometimes I think we all need the reminder not to become ones ourselves as we continue. [ another arrow loosed without so much as a breath of effort. (atk 25) her tone lacks any of the previous disbelief and judgement, just resignation. ] The road to hell, blah blah blah.

vi doesn’t know, of course, and buffy has to remind herself of that. it’s probably better that she doesn’t right now. the last thing she needs is one more person to worry about. the less people who are stressing about what iscariot might do? the better.

Okay. [ she just nods. that's cool, that's fine. she won't push. plus her sense motive was a 5 so she doesn't know there is anything to push about. maybe buffy was just talking about old shit, who knows. she is jon snow. ]

You know if you ever want to talk, I know my life sucks and no one wants to bother me because I exist in a black hole of awful, but I'm secretly a good listener when I shut my trap, so like... if it turns out it's not over or someone decides to talk shit about actual superhero Buffy Summers, I'm all ears. And I'm not against slapping a bitch. Like, hard. With a baseball bat. Covered in spikes... I think there's a name for that... [ really selling your ability to not talk, aren't you there, kiddo?? ] Oh! A morningstar. I will slap any basic bitches who dare impugn your honor with a morningstar. Pretty sure Dovan can rustle one up for me, he loves me.
