[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. You can also specify 'single thread', meaning you want only one response for all participants, rather than multi-thread, where a number of different scenes/threads can be done as replies to the top prompt.]

[even an ocean away, it's a very thin grapevine that keeps news from reaching the people in failboat, so once things have calmed down a bit, Des arrives and waits for her in the Dragon's Light wing, figuring he can surprise her when she comes in.]

Funny thing, Little Bit. I still remember the way to get here.

[witchwoman]

[It's only her second day back to 'work' as it were. She walks with her eyes cast downward for the most part, so she hears his voice before she actually sees him. Shock draws her gaze up and for a moment, she just stands there, as if she's afraid her eyes are playing a trick on her.]

Des? But...

[nothingsodivine]

But what? But I'm supposed to be in New York? [he waves a hand, sliding off the exam table he was currently perching on.] I heard what happened.

[witchwoman]

...Oh. [Her gaze drops again, the brace on her wrist still worn for part of the day- and on right now, as it happens. She shifts awkwardly, as if she's not sure just what he might say on the matter.]

[nothingsodivine]

Hey. [He collects her in a warm hug, careful not to press against her wrist.] I came to see you, okay? Don't give me those sad faces.

[witchwoman]

[She sinks into his embrace, a little awkward between the wrist and her very large belly, but they make it work.]

Better if you didn't have to come for something like this. [She says quietly, still leaning against him.]

[nothingsodivine]

Yeah, it would be, but life's unfair that way. [He glances down at her baby bump.] So is she gonna come out and say hi soon or what?

[witchwoman]

At least another month, from what they tell me. But she seems healthy. [Pulling back, she places her good hand on her stomach for a moment, feeling around before reaching for Des' hand.]

Here. [Wanna feel a future soccer player in the making?]

[Ooh don't mind if he does. He laughs as soon as he feels the first kick, the smile going right to his eyes.] Damn. She's a lively little thing. Hope it's not my shins she's gonna start kicking first.

[witchwoman]

[Despite everything, she can't help but smile briefly. Des is good at that.]

If you are, I'm sure you'll be the first to admit you deserved it.

[nothingsodivine]

It's true. [he leans down a bit to address her stomach.] Uncle Des is an as- a very bad man sometimes, but if your mother can forgive him, then you can too. Consider it your first very difficult life lesson.

[witchwoman]

[She notices the way he censors himself and that small smile stretches just a touch wider.]

She'll learn to love you for it as I do.

[nothingsodivine]

[he beams.] Well, if she's half as sweet as you, she won't be able to help herself. The world needs a little more of that kinda light.

[witchwoman]

[Her smile falters, since she doesn't feel much like a source of light these days. But she nods either way.]

With any luck, she'll be enough like her father- [She hesitates on the word, emotion tugging at her.] -to keep up with you once she's learned to talk.

[Watching Finnick and Des is where Myri learned how to lie like a champ, after all.]

God forbid. The last thing anyone needs is a tiny conniver. [He address her baby bump again.] Hear that? No conniving, and if you have to... Keep it to people who deserve it.

[witchwoman]

She may need a bit of a refresher on the topic once she's actually able to speak. I'll leave that to you.

I'll happily indulge the Bitty Bit with all the important life lessons I've learned and almost actually follow once she's old enough. [He holds up a hand.] Solemn vow.

[witchwoman]

Good. She'll be better for having you in her life. [It makes her feel better to talk about the people her daughter will have in her life, rather than the ones she likely won't. She takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly.]

I'm glad you came back.

[nothingsodivine]

Did you really think I wouldn't?

[he reaches out to squeeze her shoulder.] Barring the fact that I haven't really given anyone a reason to think I would.

[witchwoman]

You had an out. With everything that's happened? I wouldn't have blamed you if you never looked back. [It would have broken her heart, but she would have understood why.]

[nothingsodivine]

Little Bit, I've had a hundred outs for the past three years. If I honestly wanted to leave, I woulda done it. [Which is something he's denied a hundred times before. Somehow not bullshitting anyone comes easier now.]

[witchwoman]

Yes, but... [She just assumes it's different now. He's married. He's mortal. A lot has changed and he's changed with it. There's really no mission that they're on now that he's tied to, and he's made it so very clear that he's not a Knight, so being tangled up in their business isn't really something he needs to do.]

I suppose I was just afraid that you'd realize how much easier it all could be. [She glances down.] I was so angry with you. For days and days, I was so angry that you left when we needed- when I needed...

[She can't quite finish that thought. It's selfish of her. She knows that. And she's had plenty of people to lean on through all of this. There's just something about Des that makes her feel safe, though.

She looks back up at him again, her eyes watery with fresh tears that haven't quite yet fallen.]

I'm glad to be wrong. I'm glad you weren't running away for good.

[nothingsodivine]

[he tenses and glances at the floor, rather than look at her, so she can't see the sudden hurt and guilt that cross his face. Even after she finishes, he swallows, collecting his thoughts, and then he gathers her up in another hug and kisses her forehead.] Hey, you can't get rid of me that easily, okay? I'm with you as long as you want me to be. You're my little bit, all right? I love you.

[witchwoman]

[She wraps her arms around him, holding on tight.]

I love you, too. So much. And I want my daughter to know you and your husband, both. I never knew a family growing up. I want her to have more people to turn to than she knows what to do with. And I... I miss you when you're gone. I know you have a right to go. And I know I can't stop you from leaving for a time, but just promise me you'll always come back? Can you do that?

[nothingsodivine]

[he heaves a sigh and closes his eyes, considering it for a moment, and then, very sincerely, since it doesn't come automatically:] I think I can promise that much.
