[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. [ It doesn't take much for Skye to notice him hovering. While she's not staying in the squire's wing, instead doubling up with Kali as her roommate, she does notice the other people who are doing the wander-y, uneasy thing. When she comes out of the kitchen, she brings two plastic water bottles, and tosses him one. ]

You look like a guy waiting for an exploring buddy. Pretty sure there's tons of this castle I haven't turned over yet. Wanna come with?

[it was only his good reflexes that made him catch the slippery bottle and he looked up at her with a grin. His mind was weighing the options, but it would be easier to explore with someone at his side]

Then perhaps I was put in this spot at this time just to explore with you. [his grin grew] You are new here as well?

[hacker]

Very. They pulled me out of Mexico. Kinda thought I was special, but with the parade of newbies around ... I'm thinking not. [ She gestured towards him with the water bottle, then held it in front of her to unscrew the cap. ] I'm Skye.

I am called Baal. It is a pleasure to meet you, Skye.

[and he's going to take a drink from that bottle because he was actually thirsty. It was like you read his mind]

And do not think you are not special because of the number of people here. From what I have observed, it is rare for a person to be here. If not, they would not be a secret to the world.

[ Skye gestured down the hallway towards the round table room and ballroom. ]

So how'd you get in on the secret, Baal?

[he will follow her, his eyes shifting back and forth to take in the windows, doors, and the artwork as they go]

I was of service to Sir Felicity, and she felt that I had something worth bringing to the table. The very big, round table that I did not believe existed until a few days ago.

[hacker]

So you've seen it. [ Skye turned around, walking backwards as she continued to chat him up. ] Did you notice all the weird artwork in the hallway? What's the deal with that? I've never seen so many drow.

Yes. When I was brought here. I met the master of this order in the room with it.

[he thought about the hallway, remembering the art]

The way it was laid out, it would serve to tell a story, I would think. There was a symbol continuous in each piece. But I can't understand the writing on it to be able to find the meaning of it

Maybe someone who's been here a while would recognize it.

[ She hums, glancing at the painting the hallway lies behind. She shakes her head. ]

They didn't give me an ID yet. No key card. [ She pats her pockets, then turns and gestures to the opposite side of the hall they stand in. ] Seen the ballroom yet? I guess it's where our squiring party's gonna be, if we take 'em up on it.

[he looks at the door, debating before shaking his head. It wasn't worth trying. Yet. He needed to blend in and not make too many waves]

I do not remember a ballroom, no. This place is so large, I think it will take me a year before I see it all.

Maybe I'm feeling ambitious, but I don't plan for it to take that long.

Have you been making a map on something other than inside of your own head?

[hacker]

Uh, duh. [ She pulls her phone out of her pocket, tapping the screen a few times until she pulls up a very basic layout made with one of those free architectural apps. There are notes on certain sect wings, like "Lis'sa is scary" on the Hoard. ] Gotta remember how to navigate this place somehow.

[he looked down at the screen a moment, and then just nodded]

Good. That is very helpful. I didn't realize there was an app for that.

[hacker]

They don't. Sort of. I took one of those amateur architect sites, you know, the ones that let you build your own floorplan? Cannibalized it into an app myself. You'd be surprised how often it comes in handy. Works for mapping your way around cities, too. [ She shrugged one shoulder. ] I move around a lot.

I am impressed. That is a very handy skill to have.

[he gave her a nod though at the last part of that]

Any reason why you moved around, or do you just have feet that like to wander?

[hacker]

Foster care.

[ She shrugged one shoulder. ]

When I could get placed. Mostly, I was at an orphanage. St. Agnes, in New York. [ She crinkled her nose in a dismissive way, avoiding his gaze. ] What about you? What's your deal?

Let us just say that I have spent most of my life in the Middle East.

[because anyone who has read the news in the last twenty years can take an educated guess at his life]

I take it foster care in America is not a good system?

[hacker]

Depends who you ask. [ She bit down on her lower lip. ] They tried their best. Just never found a good fit, I guess.

You have my deepest sympathies, Skye. That is not a life any child should have to bear.

[hacker]

Guess I turned out all right.

[ She gestures around at the castle in what's a poorly masked effort of changing the subject, all put-on levity and charm. ]

Well, I have just met you. That has yet to be determined.

[he smirked at her though, his tone obviously teasing]

[ a nod of acknowledgment answered him first: good point. but she recovered a moment later with rationalizations. ] Well, Wynn let me through the front door, and they took the bag off my head, how bad can I be?

It depends on if they are looking for good people, or people who are loyal and useful.

Well, I don't think Malina would have kept me for loyalty. I'm not sure she's even convinced I won't go running back to the Rising Tide any minute. She seemed pretty spooked in Mexico.
