Perched at the edge of any civilized lands, the small lumber town of Falcon's Hollow has always had to rely on itself to solve its  problems.  Now the hacking coughs of the sick are heard throughout the town.  The plague has come to the Hollow, and the town is ill equipped to stop it on its own, particularly given its resistance to magic.

That's where the Knights come in, sent to assist a local herbalist in putting together enough supplies to mass produce a cure.

Should we get up there and, er, help you? [She's not sure how much use she'll be fighting from on a tree, but she feels kind of bad.]

[adamantiumed]

[ logan looks down at them, then back up at the tree ] 'm fine. [ he doesn't answer grimrot, but instead climbs up next to the bodies, examining them for a moment, before he uses his claws to cut their packs off them, which go plummeting to the ground, spilling their contents out on the ground next to the party.

there's a pair of crossbows, a masterwork shortbow, a signet ring with the image of a flaming hawk, some wadded up canadian dollars, and a bunch of beef jerky, twinkies, and assorted crap.

logan starts climbing down again, stopping to scratch something off the bark of the tree before he just leaps back to the ground, holding up what he got: a piece of the tree with some of the moss growing on it. ] One down.

[ what if... abigail grabs the bow because it's beautiful and the ring... and the money. the latter of which she shoves at logan like look i got you some money from your homeland. jk, he's the boss, he gets to keep the money and maybe they'll have to bribe someone later? she turns the ring over in her hand, holding it out to show miles. ] Think it's important?

I don't think these gentlemen will be needing any of this any longer. [Nels remarks with grim sarcasm, as he retrieves and cleans his blade.]

Is there any identification? We should make sure their families know.

[ logan shakes his head ] Nothing I can see. [ he nods at the ring ] Maybe someone in town'll recognize it.

We should keep moving. Find that witch.

SHHH NOTHING HAPPENED

[grimrot]

Yes! [She spares a look for the dead guys, but there's nothing to be done for them now. She can't resurrect people.] West, wasn't it?

[ he nods. ] C'mon. [ and onward they push, through the trees.

the sounds of the forest become suddenly distance as the trees part, opening into a small, almost perfectly circular glade. the nearest stands of pine, eyln, and darkwood - all typically sturdy woods - twist away from the clearing, as if bent by some impossibly strong wind, or seemingly in an attempt to flee despite their paralyzed roots. at the glade's center squats an ugly cottage, little more than a pile of twigs, shoots and ivy stacked upon mud walls. from that thatched roof dangle bundles of gnarled roots, old dried beast carcasses, and knucklebone bangles, all clattering together like gruesome wind chimes. a dozen small thatched fetishes - each shaped like a tiny man, imp, or rearing serpent - stand propped in the yard, keeping guard before a rickety plank door. the fetishes are about 3 feet tall, and there's probably about fifteen of them, each unnerving. ]

Well that's...creepy.

[So much dnw. Though loner witch in the woods, what did he really expect?]

Understatement. [ she is not calling dibs on going first into this creepy clusterfuck. she's already wounded ok. gonna hide behind miles again. ]

[adamantiumed]

I don't think anyone's been home in awhile. [ as he steps closer, he looks at the door frame, where the moldering door has rotted off its hinges. with a 24 str check, he easily grasps it in both hands and pulls it off, tossing it aside outside the hut and looking in. his nose starts twitching from the dank reek that comes out of the musty interior immediately, but he doesn't seem to smell anyone living and nods to them to follow him.

the interior is filled with shadows. haphazardly hung shelves line the walls, covered in all manner of clay jugs, clouded bottles, strangely cut rocks, rotted bunches of herbs, and a museum of crude curios and remnants of a bone grinder's artifice. a rusted iron cauldron, with a mouth nearly 5 feet wide and a depth of nearly 3 feet, dominates the hut's single room, its ash covered surface shaped with a relief of capering fiends and leering devils.

across from the door, against the far walls, stands a high-backed chair made of wicker, the gigantic curved tusks of some monstrous beast, and thousands of human teeth. in the chair sits what looks like a corpse wrapped in filthy burial linens, its form padded with pungent herbs and sprouting patches of thick white mold. ]

[Grimrot walks in after him, looking around at all the ingredients and browsing for anything that might either be useful to her or at least tell her more about what this witch was capable of, but I guess the smell is distracting her too idk (search 7).]

[cuivre]

Oh goody.

[This just keeps getting better and better. He saves a hand in front of his face as he goes inside, as if that'll help the smell and the debris filled air, and starts looking around (search 12).]

[adamantiumed]

[ as they start to root through her possessions, there's a strange noise in the middle of the room... and suddenly the cauldron? starts moving. and heads straight for miles, the upper 'lips' of it turning into a giant mouth that rolls to the side and snaps at him, but its movements are awkward and bulky, easy to avoid (atk 5).

wolvy crosses the hut in a flash, claws extending so he can slash at the cauldron (atk 28, dmg 21) ]

[ knife out before she even thinks about it, abigail jabs ineffectually at the cauldron. (atk 8) she's just really surprised/confused to be stabbing at... cauldron. and maybe half her attention is on the mummy like it's going to come alive and kill them all. ]

[He turns back around toward the cauldron after it misses him, and he jabs a fist forward, trying to maybe overturn it or something? idek. how does one punch a cauldron. (atk 18, dmg 11)]

[Nels can't help but laugh out loud at the absurdity of the animated cauldron, he instinctively places his hands on his blades... but then he goes for his gun instead... but he's going to hesitate because of all the people in the melee. He's not that great with a gun.]

How do we kill a cauldron, exactly?

[grimrot]

I... I don't know!

[Which she finds, honestly, a lot more worrisome than anything else. She hates not knowing anything. Perhaps that's why, when she draws her mace, her attack is so ineffective (atk 6).]

[adamantiumed]

[ miles fist clangs into the side of the cauldron, and it attempts to 'bite' at him (atk 17), which i think juuust misses.

wolverine's claws rake against it again (atk 23/annnd a nat 20; 24+36), slicing the thing literally in half. the pieces go spinning to the ground and it comes to a final stop.

If the mummy wakes up next, I quit. What were we supposed to get from the witch's house, again? [ she forgot, okay, she's wounded. ]

[Nels puts the awkward gun away, only mostly impressed by Logan's display.]

You'll have to teach me that trick someday.

[And he begins looking around with a 27.]

Some sort of pickled root, is what we're looking for... [He mutters to Abigail, as he paws through the huts contents.]

[ with that in mind, she joins in on his searching, will less skill. (search 16) ]

[ due to the volume and disorganization of the hut, it takes them about ten minutes of searching, but finally nels comes up with the rat's tail. he also turns up some gems and statuettes. abigail finds a grotesque, amulet-like shrunken head, about six inches in diameter. ] You gonna hang that from your rear view mirror?

[theminotaur]

[ omg it's the little fucker from the prisoner of azkaban movie! it's hideous. :D ]

I'm gonna put it on Stiles' pillow with a mint.

[ #romance. jk she's going to snap a picture of it and google search shrunken head amulets and maybe see if it's evil or not before she harasses her boyfriend with it. (research 24) ]

[ it appears to be a soulspeaker, which can repeat a message once/day, like a magic mouth spell. ] All we need are these mushrooms from the dwarven temple now. Should be easy.
