[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. Is that the kind of thing people here usually celebrate? With as many of you as there are, I'd think that wound up being, like, a party every day. Wynn's got himself an army housed here.

Nah, no anniversary parties that I know of, but sometimes it feels like there's a party every day anyway. Squiring ceremonies are once a month, but Knighting ceremonies — what happens if you try hard and believe in yourself and Wynn decides to keep you around — can be whenever. He's only ever done it en masse once, after Andres.

How's that work? When you're squired it's like a test drive, and then you do something to earn Knighthood and suddenly you've got tenure? Do a lot of people wash out in the squiring?

[ambitionist]

Sounds about right, as far as I know. And some do, I think. Not a lot, but some. But it's never a public thing, right? You just ... stop seeing some people around. And no one ever talks about it. Maybe they just figure the whole thing isn't for them and go home, or maybe Wynn kicks 'em out. I dunno. Kind of reminds me of the mafia.

Wow. That's a really glowing review of the secret organization you dragged me and Quill back to join.

[ deadpan, unflinching. ]

I can see why we'd want to stay.

[ambitionist]

Okay, one [he holds up one finger] You could've stayed down in Mexico, don't act like we were taking you hostage. And two, [another finger goes up] You could've left after we came home, too. But here you are, conducting interviews. It's not a bad place. I really do like it out here. But I'm not gonna fuckin' sugarcoat it and treat it like Disneyland just so you won't get scared off, either.

[hacker]

Exactly. I'm here. You can't blame me for wanting more information about what kind of roller coaster I'm signing up for, and you just happen to be one of the most honest faces here. [ Exaggeration, but she knows he'll give it to her straight without sugarcoating, which is worth something. ] But don't expect me to be jumping for joy about you saying it's like the mafia either.

[ambitionist]

[he just laughs.] That's not honesty, hon, that's a poker face. [he quickly switches to the exact same intonation and expression he had when he first told her—] "We actually work for Ripley's." [and then he shrugs the facade off.] But no, you're right. I'm honest when it counts. Not really a fan of bullshit. I wasn't trying to — mafia's just my point of reference. It's where I came from.

[hacker]

[ She rolled her eyes, an exaggerated dismissal of Alex's recall of the lie. As if she had forgotten. But that all falls haphazardly to the wayside when she gets stuck on his next comment. ] Wait. You were in the mafia?

[ambitionist]

Russian mafia. Not Italian. Completely different thing.

[hacker]

Because one's Tony Soprano and the other's ... What? [ She shook her head to dismiss it. ] Surprised you gave it up. Switched teams. Russia's been a pretty exciting place lately. They're saying that guy who took over the country was a god.

[ambitionist]

More cutthroat. Less cuddly. Those guys'll flip you for anything. And it was actually Russian-American, but. [he shrugs it off, moving right along to] Yeah. That guy was a jackass and a half. Not really a fan of texting, either. [he holds up his hand flat, turning it back and forth so she can see the pale, faint scar from his loki encounter, not really noticeable unless you're looking for it. or if it's your hand. :'| ]

[hacker]

... Wait. [ Slowly processing. ] Are you telling me you were there?

[ambitionist]

Yeah. That was after I was recruited, though, not because I was getting in touch with my heritage or whatever the fuck. We were on a different mission that ended up turning into stopping Loki from taking over Russia for no apparent reason other than it's big and poorly run enough for that to fly. It was kind of like a shitty Kinder Egg.

[hacker]

So he was really Loki.

[ She's eating this shit up and it's so obvious. ]

The Loki. I mean, that's big. Even our alien letdown wasn't that big. Does that kind of thing happen a lot around here? Run-ins with gods?

[ambitionist]

Not really. I've been trying to hook up with Thor ever since he came out to help take Loki home for beatings or groundings or Asgardian prison, but he won't return my calls.

[hacker]

So Thor was the blonde one? Like, hammer and all? Wow. I mean, I only saw news clips and Flickr feed, but he looked way dreamy. [ She holds up her hands. ] Well, if you do get the chance to experience his backswing for yourself, put in a good word for me.

[ambitionist]

Yeah! He was even better in person. [fond sigh.] But I dunno what's gonna get him to come back. I fucked up a temple in Iceland for him, you know? That takes dedication.

[hacker]

That kind of makes you sound like a stalker, Alex.

[ambitionist]

Is it better or worse if I say I was kind of on a date at the time?

[hacker]

It's slowly adding up.

[ The look on her face says worse. But she's going to nonjudgmentally accept him. ]

And when you were trying to pick Quill up? Were you on a date then, too, or did you need someone to, uh, heal the wounds left when Thor didn't call?

[ambitionist]

[he snorts and rolls his eyes.] Oh, please. I don't care that much. And I was on a mission when the stuff went down with you and Quill, don't be a fuckin' brat.

[hacker]

[ She burst out laughing at that, clapping him on the shoulder. ]

Awww. Don't be so sore. You're not out of luck just yet. I mean, he came back too. Assuming Carol isn't his secret Veil-wife or something. What's the deal with that? Did you ever find out?

[ambitionist]

[he rolls his eyes like omg u brat as she claps his shoulder but he's over it.] Not a single fuckin' clue, but I am still curious about that. Veil shit is so weird.

Yeah, this is more than just weird Veil shit. I have never heard of that happening before. If what Carol's saying is true, then— What does that mean? Parallel realities?
