[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. [ he lets her drag him up, but not without pointing backwards at the tv to add: ] Hey, I think you'd look good with those bangs.

Although I have been thinking of cutting my hair, that? Will never be a choice. I already survived three years of The Rachel. I've surpassed my 90s TV hairstyle quota.

[ She drags him out of the TV room into the main hallway of the castle before letting go of his arm and looking around. ]

We just got here. There's no way they're telling us everything there is to know. Personally, I say, if we're gonna be staying here, we should find out everything we can.

What, you think they're hiding some shady secrets somewhere?

[hacker]

I think that if they are, I'd rather find out about them sooner than later. Are you gonna help me look or not?

[starprince]

Yeah, sure. Why the hell not?

[hacker]

Now that's more like it.

[ She claps him on the shoulder and makes her way out of the rec room. ]

So. Big castle. Where would you hide your dirty laundry?

[starprince]

Secret dungeons? Treasure room? Behind a giant painting?

[hacker]

Dungeons it is. Let's find some stairs.

[ navigate 31 ... ?? ? ]

[starprince]

[ they find the dungeon stairs! it's not like there's any prisoners down there rn so... there aren't any guards either. just creepy cells and a distant sound of dripping water b/c that seems like a requisite addition. ] Wonder what it takes for someone to get thrown down here.

[hacker]

[ Skye takes her time winding down the stairs, glancing up at all of it and taking her time in going through it. The whole thing leaves a bad feeling in her stomach, and she grows uneasy as they continue down. ]

Nothing good. Maybe it's where they put the traitors. Hope you're liking the KoolAid. [ She elbows him to punctuate the jest, then starts peering in the cells. ] Doesn't seem like anyone's down here now, anyway. The place is totally empty.

[starprince]

They must run low on traitors. Or they have a fast pass to the chopping block.

[hacker]

I'm sorry, is any part of that supposed to sound friendly and reassuring? [ She stops dead, looking back at him. wE ARE IN A CREEPY FUCKING DUNGEON, QUILL. YOU DON'T NEED TO HELP THE AMBIENCE ALONG. ]

[starprince]

I thought you were looking for sordid secrets. Not reassurance.

[hacker]

Uh, yeah, and I'm currently prowling through their totally creepy dungeon. I would like to not add murder and beheading to my mental model for this experience. [ She swats him on the arm and moves past him to keep exploring the cells. ] Bad enough it's a literal dungeon.

[starprince]

Well, it's a literal castle. Don't those come preinstalled or whatever?

[hacker]

But that door was open. Kinda gives the impression this place actually gets used. They could at least reno it.

[starprince]

Maybe sometimes they've gotta interrogate some bad guys.

[hacker]

You saw the interrogation rooms in Mexico. Even those were better than this, and that was Mexico.

[starprince]

Maybe they're going for a certain aesthetic. ... A Tales From the Crypt sort of aesthetic.

[hacker]

[ She wheels to look at him. ]

I'm serious, okay! This is weird. Really weird. If they're tag-teaming with governments, why not let those governments lock up their respective baddies? Why keep a dungeon at all?

[starprince]

Do I look like the expert here? Have you tried asking somebody?

[hacker]

Seriously? While you've been watching Netflix, I've been asking everybody. [ And she's pacing now. ] All Wynn gave me was vague assurances and talk about how I'd see for myself. And the only pattern I've found in his Knights is that they're either legacies or they didn't have much of a life outside this place before joining. Like he's scooping up the desperate.

[ She sighs, dropping her hands to the side. ]

You're the only person here that I trust not to be a total pod person drunk on the Kool Aid. I want to believe that this is legit, but in my experience, when something seems too good to be true, it usually is.

[starprince]

Well, then, why are you here? I mean, non-pod person and all.

[hacker]

[ The genuine, straight-up question has her very seriously considering it. She nods her way through her thought process, blinking back a heavy look of emotion before she explains herself. ]

Because I want to believe it. [ She bites down on her lower lip, then adds honestly, ] More than anything. I would love to be wrong, and I'd love to let it go and just let this be a good thing, but I'm not wired that way. I can't just ... let it be this easy.

[ She watched things fall apart in the foster system way too much for her to just believe she could have something good without a catch now. It's in her nature to question, and question everything. Especially the things that look good. ]

[starprince]

Believe me. I get that.

[ she shrugs, looking around the dungeon surrounding them. ] When I was a kid, everything seemed like maybe it could be like that, you know? All the heroes I admired, the ones I saw on TV...

But out there-- [ he nods upwards with his chin ] all I ever saw was that the one thing every species in this big old universe has in common?

Is that everybody's out for number one.
