[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. You can also specify 'single thread', meaning you want only one response for all participants, rather than multi-thread, where a number of different scenes/threads can be done as replies to the top prompt.]

[Oh my god.] Blondie, you really need to get laid. [OH LOOK TRAINING ROOM. He probably spent a good chunk of the time they were walking to it just staring at her, horrified.] I believe you're one of the people who keeps dismissing my choice of weapons.

You mean the, like, six-round revolver you carry and your left fist? I'm not sure either of those qualifies as a weapon.

Your fist qualifies as a weapon. [you and your... magical super strength powers, but the pout doesn't last long as he slides on over to the rack of practice weapons and selects something suitably sword-like.] Second of all, the Le Mat has nine rounds.

[He points the sword in her direction.] And third of all? [Des folds his right hand behind his back, bracing his feet, and then swings the sword in a series of extremely dexterous motions, attacking invisible enemies left and right, using his natural speed to his advantage. Since he's not actually attacking anything, it's more showy, but he's not bad at all.]

[ Buffy's eyebrows raise steadily like ???? what are you doing ??? But she doesn't step back as he starts swinging, which at least gives him a little credit. ]

You know the point is to stick the pointy end in the bad guy, right? Not make a soufflé.

[ Laughing, she approaches, holding her hand out for the sword. ]

I'm kidding. It's good. [ She smiles up at him fondly. ] Here. You'll get more force to your jabs if you hold it like this.

I'm still faster than I am strong, all right? [He laughs and hands it over.] It's different when it's not mine. Hard to get a bayonet through customs without raising a lot of questions I don't wanna answer when I don't need to.

[ Slow stare. She lowers the sword and squints. ]

Bayonet ... [ wait. ] You're not still carrying around that bayonet you pulled off Anderson, are you?

Did you think I was gonna mount it on my wall? [it's totally socially acceptable to use the weapons of your slain enemies, Buffy. Did you forget we're in a Dungeons and Dragons-based game.]

I thought you would get rid of it. You don't think that's kind of morbid? It's bad enough that Alainn has his corpse in her vault.

Not really. [Des is just staring at her like ???] I mean, I'd hope you'd never have to loot a corpse before, but I definitely have.

[...] Also definitely not in the same wheelhouse as Alainn keeping a dead headless guy in her vault.

Uh, yeah, actually, it kinda feels like the same thing.

It's a sword, Blondie. He had several of them. It's not like I took his cross or his ring- now that'd be a little weird.

[ She shakes her head, sighing. ]

No, I know. I get it. [ She shrugged her shoulders, like she was trying to get rid of a twinge. ] It just doesn't sit right with me, knowing even a piece of him is still around. It's like he's still here. [ She rubbed her neck. ] Which is my problem—not yours.

We all have our ways of dealing. [He rubs his shoulder, looking away from her.] I needed to destroy something that belonged to him. Using that fucking sword, standing with the people he used to use it against... I dunno. It feels right. Like a personal insult. God knows it was the only thing I was ever gonna be capable of landing on that bastard.

Hey. [ She reaches for his arm. ] We took him down. That's what matters. It's not about any one of us can or can't land. It's all of us.

[nothingsodivine]

[He stares at her hand at his arm and slowly smiles.] Yeah. And we've got plenty of other bad guys to worry about. Freakin' Blade and his jackhole of a dad and all his children and grandchildren.

[he makes a face.] Jesus, that's still fucked up.

Thinking too hard about it might actually make me puke, so let's not. I'm just glad he never got to Jade like that. After what we saw in Rome, I was so worried that ... [ She shakes her head. ]

[Des grits his teeth.] Thank our lucky stars for true love.

[ Her only response is a distasteful DID YOU HAVE TO DO THAT look of cynicism. Which is the only appropriate response to Rafael/Jade these days tbh.

Oh wait. Des doesn't know about Nadia, does he? The look quiets, and Buffy raises the sword. ]

Like this. [ She drives the jab forward, stepping with the movement, then passes it off to him. When he takes it from her, she fidgets with his grip to solidify it. ]

[right. swords. he smirks as she fidgets with his hand and takes a step back, giving it a few practice jabs.] Better?

[slay]

[ There's something sad tinging her smile as she looks on at his practice, as if she's losing something. They've all had to change and adapt to deal with what's been passed off to them. ]

Better. [ She agrees quietly, nodding her affirmation. ]

[That 20 total wis check of his catches the sad smile, and he lowers the weapon, tilting his head like a confused dog.] Something botherin' you, Blondie?

I just hate how much this battle is changing us. It's like every time I turn around, we've lost something else. Even if I protect my friends from the spiders and the priests, I can't protect you from that.

That's the bitch of life, Blondie. It breaks you down bit by bit, molds you into something else, and tells you you're better for it.

[the bitterness is clear on his face.] You don't get a choice in the matter. The only choice is how well you take it.
