[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions: Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask! Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. [ Skye makes a wheezing sound like a dying whale to reflect her 9 will save as Kali gets up in her personal space and touches her as she guides her on how to punch. This is what battlefield gay looks like, y'all. Also, it feels weirdly like deja vu. She swallows, glances over at Kali, then diverts her attention back to the punching bag. ]

Okay. Thumb out. Fluid. Lead with the front. [ She takes another two hits—one with each fist (atk 19, 12). The improvement is undeniable, that's for sure. And she starts to keep it up, focusing on making steady, but not rapid, jabs at the bag while she talks to Kali. ] How long have you been doing this, anyway?

Keep your chin down a little, so your punch acts as a guard. [ she hesitates on answering, moving to stand behind the bag and steady it. people always get weird about her past. ] Seventeen or eighteen years.

[ Obedient, Skye ducks her chin. She pays little mind to how her punches are hitting, focusing on keeping her form and maintaining the integrity of her rhythm over actual accuracy and power. Better to get the mechanics down first. ]

How long did it take you to get good at it?

[ um. ]

A while.

[ she doesn't want to be like "a couple weeks", which is pretty accurate, and crush skye's spirit. kali's a freak of nature. ]

I wish [ she takes a few punches at the bag, ] Captain Pencil Skirt were here. I'd have a lot easier time learning on her face. [ Someone is still bitter about the whole being dragged off to be quietly disappeared thing. ]

Can you just imagine her face? I'm sure Malina can do the spell again and then we can take her picture and print it out to tape to the punching bag.

[ Skye looks up at Kali like ? ?? werwatey ?? She's being serious. Ok. Skye takes another couple jabs at the bag, tilting her head to note, ] Well, I would go ask Malina, except where I was kidding. I mean, she's totally evil. Maximum level government toolbag, for sure. But I think I'll reserve face-punching for when it's a must.

[ sigh. she feels like a dunce. ]

I'm not... very perceptive to nuance. [ she shifts to hold the bag more firmly, avoiding skye's gaze and falling back on something she understands. ] Try a cross. Hit with a jab to find the range and them come in with the cross. They're both straight, linear punches, so make sure to keep your arms level with your shoulders.

[ Skye's punches fly askew at Kali's new orders, glancing entirely off the bag. I don't even want to put the rolls here because it's just ugly (4, 0). She looks startled, like something about what Kali said caught her off guard or spoke to something in her, because her attention is slightly hazy when it falls on Kali. She drops her fists. ]

What? [ She blinks through it, shaking her head, looking back over at the bag. ] Sorry. [ She lifts her fists again and rolls one shoulder, cracking her neck. ] Jab-cross. Got it. [ She goes for the combo again, and this time, she does a great job (atk 14, 15). ] It's fine. I'll get the nuance, you get the punching. That's what teamwork's about.

Okay. [ punching is something she can handle at least. ] Don't forget to stay fluid. Don't tense up, you'll hurt yourself.

Is this how you started? I can just imagine. [ Skye tries to keep up with Kali's instructions as she continues to strike the bag steadily. ] Little baby Kali, in some spooky government basement, doing her reps.

I wasn't Kali back then, but other that that your imagination is correct. [ a beat, her head tipping. ] It didn't seem very spooky, either.

So what did it seem like? [ It'd be a good distraction, chatting about Kali's life before while Skye tried to keep up her assault on this bag. ]

I don't know, like home I guess. [ she didn't know anything else, it was her home. ]

[ The word strikes a chord with Skye, quieting her. She reaffixes her focus on the heavy bag and stops prying. ]

[ after a few punches, she takes it upon herself to elaborate. ] I didn't know anything else. But it wasn't good. [ which she has been told, it's not something she has fully realized herself, but knows enough to address the bag instead of skye. ] We weren't kids to them, we were weapons and experiments.

I guess when someone finds you valuable, you don't necessarily stop to think about why or how. It just ... feels good. [ She drops her hands, plants her palms on the bag, and stills it with a sigh. ] Sorry.

I'm not. I didn't always do good things, but I they gave me training that keeps people safe now. I tried to keep you safe. [ her tone gives way to the implication that she doesn't feel like she was successful in that endeavor. ]

Hey. [ Skye reaches out for Kali's arm, looking up intently into her eyes. ] You did keep me safe. That doesn't always have to mean ... fists and guns, okay? I had nothing left when we got out of that base, and you brought me here.

[ that wasn't entirely selfless. her mouth turns down in a thoughtful frown. ]

But I let them take you, I didn't think to go back and get your home, I didn't stop you and Malina from getting hurt. [ it isn't important (to her) that she tried to stem the violence from the get go and wasn't the cause of the fighting, she'd let skye and peter leave with that woman, she'd let malina get shot repeatedly, it was a miracle that alex didn't get hurt when he was shot. their mission in mexico may have been considered a success on the whole, but kali didn't personally see it that way.

she was made, quite literally, to protect people and she hadn't succeeded. ]

[ As if making a confession, Skye says, ] That van wasn't my home. It was a bandaid, because it was something that felt like it was mine. But honestly, I don't ... know if I've ever had one. Bringing me back here, vouching for me with Malina, you gave me a shot at a real one.

[ Then, as if to cut short that sentiment and avoid her feelings, she steps back to the less dangerous reassurance. ]

And me and Malina, we're fine. We got better. What matters is that we all got out of there.

[ the silence that stretches between them is protracted, but it's obvious that kali is absorbing this, it's easy to watch the thoughts streak across her face, expressive even when she's silent. finally, she nods. ]

I'm glad you're here.

[ Skye's smile is thin and slow to build. ]

Yeah. Me too.

[ when skye smiles, kali smiles in return, automatic. ]

I think I can go back to sleep now, if you want to stop.

Sure. [ She shrugs her shoulders, giving the bag one last look. ] I'm gonna hit the showers before I get back in bed, but I'll meet you back in the room.
