[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. "It will be eleven years in October." She double checked with Gus when Skye started asking them because they needed to get their story straight. She also can't help but make a face at that number because unlike some of the other long-term knights, she doesn't have an infinite lifespan. "Every time I think about it, it makes me feel old."

"That is a long time. But it does speak a lot to your skill for a group to keep you in their service that long. Age does not always equal knowledge, after all."

"No, it does not," she agrees, shaking her head. "And I guess I'm skilled enough. I wouldn't say I'm the most consummate field agent, but I have a few good tricks up my sleeve."

"It is those trick that keep us alive at the end of the day, though."

"Yes, they are," she says with a nod. "And I appreciate all of them every time I go out into the field."

"As do I." It's probably the only reason he is alive. "So beyond your bar, what else do you do around here for fun?"

"I think that tends to depend on the knight." She lifts her glass, swirling the liquid for a moment as she does. "Me, I tend to spend a lot of time in London or in the Dragon's Fire wing training. But depending on the sect, knights can decompress in different ways."

"I am still learning of these different groups. "What is the Dragon Fire wing?"

"Dragon's Fire is the sect that's more magic-focused. Sorcerers, wizards, witches - we all kind of congregate there. Plus, the libraries there have the best information on magic and magic research." She could have been a freelancer, probably, but she wanted to hone her craft more, so Dragon's Fire it was.

"And can magic be learned by jut anyone?" He had met others who knew magic in his life. There was beauty and power in it.

"Well, you do have to have some natural talent," she says with a nod. "My dad was a sorcerer so I'm one too. But our connection to the Veil effects different people in different ways, so just because you don't know magic doesn't mean you don't have the potential for it."

He just nodded, thinking about it a moment. "I guess then it would be something to discover when it wants to be discovered..."

"Something like that," she says with a shrug. "For me it happened when I was a kid, but I've heard about it staying latent for a while, depending. It's not exactly something that you can concretely pinpoint at any point in time - unless your parents had magic."

"Or if they even knew they had it, I would imagine."

She gives a small shrug. "There's still a lot we don't know about the way magic works. That's probably why people devote so much of their life trying to figure it out."

He nodded at that. "That does sound like a reason why people would want to study it. Better to learn than to fear, yes?"

"Exactly. Though no matter how much we learn, some people will always be much more comfortable in their ignorance than they will in anything else." The same was true for her family as it is for everyone else in this world.

"That is true." He sighed. "Denial can also be a very unhealthy coping mechanism to deal with things we don't understand."

[bredinthebone]

She nods in agreement. "And combine denial with religion and prejudice and you just get a nice big melting pot for things to go horribly, horribly wrong." Or at least that's what Malina's experience has been. Then again, prior to becoming a knight she lived on the outskirts of every community she was apart of. "Acceptance" is still a foreign feeling sometimes, but it's enough of a feeling to keep her loyal to the right causes.

"Sounds like what I hear the American experience truly is."

She smirks a bit at that, swirling her drink as she considers. "You're not wrong. Everyone's got their own opinion and no one wants to admit that they're the wrong ones."

"So true." He finished his drink, putting the glass down on the bar. He watched it a moment, thinking, before turning to look at her again. "And I feel that I have taken this conversation on a path that is not the best of first impressions."

She hums softly at that, taking a sip of her drink before shrugging. "Can't fault us for going where the conversation took us."

"Perhaps a better topic over another round of drinks?" He grinned. "Something a bit lighter?"

She smiles in return before nodding in agreement. "I am always for something a little lighter." She signals for another round, before shifting to face him more. "What did you have in mind?"
