[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. No. [She says without any actual though behind it, which is painfully evident in the way she pushes her book away and lets out a sigh.]

My last mission involved a witch- a woman with magic that got it all twisted and was terrorizing a village. And I just... I kept thinking that I could see that being me. Which doesn't exactly make me knight material, does it?

Yeah and there's evil druids all across the world. [ he arches his eyebrows like r u srs? first lan's existential crisis, now a teenage girl over-identifying with a monster. why this? why his life? why. ] What other people do has no bearing on what you do.

[You're the one who compared her to your sister once. You did this to yourself. She glances around, checking to see if anyone else is nearby before opening her bag and revealing the genie bottle tucked inside. She's taking a big risk. She has to hope that he won't just rat her out, but she has to talk to someone about all this crap.]

Maybe. [She should probably lie but for whatever reason, she doesn't want to anymore.] I've had it since Andres. I know I shouldn't use it, but...

[She's tired of feeling powerless, like things keep happening to her and the people around her and she can't do a god damn thing about it.]

No but, Faye. You shouldn't use it.

It's the only way to get what I want... What I need. People keep dying- or almost dying. And I can't do anything about it, not without looking into other options.

So what.... you gonna make them immortal? I'm sure that'll be great except you forgot to specify they stay the same age and now they're immortal but they have the body of an 87 year old. Or they're immortal but trapped in an underwater cavern and constantly drowning over and over and over again. Or they're just immortal and get to watch you die. That's fair. But wait Gus, I wasn't going to ask for immortality. What then? They're harder to hit? Good luck ever hugging them, holding hands or touching or kissing them. I hope whomever you're trying to protect here doesn't have someone they love that they'd like to be able to feel touching them. But it's fine, because it'll make you feel better. You want power to bring people back from the dead? Watch that backfire and your best friend is now a shambling undead with absolutely no memory of who they actually are. [ :| ] Do you know why wishes constantly backfire, Faye? Because you're ripping away someone else's free will for your own personal happiness. Everyone dies, Faye, that's literally how the world works.

[For once in her life, she doesn't jump in to interrupt. She listens to every word he says, and then the strangest thing happens. She doesn't sneer, doesn't snap back a reply. She just sits and looks at him. Suddenly, she looks every bit as young as she truly is, scared, and lost, and in so far over her head. Her posture shifts, then crumbles, curling her towards her lap as she lets out a sob she's been holding back for months. She has no idea what to do, how to handle this, how to care about people and also be okay when she can't keep them safe? Things were simpler when she could ignore the world and think only of herself. She knows she can't go back, can't undo what's happened to her heart. But the weight of it is just too much right now. (Will save crit fail).]

[ ugh crying children. augustus didn't sign up for this but he pats her back awkwardly like there there. this is why he only has four friends. ]

[The fact that she hates feeling like this in general is only magnified by his less than comforting response. Defense mechanisms snap into place, causing her to jerk away from his touch, turning away and quickly brushing the tears from her cheeks.]
