[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. [ that draws another sad little laugh out of him, and he looks down as she draws closer, unable to hold her gaze. ] Heh. Yeah, well. I do make that shit look good.

[Even if the laugh isn't as confident and cocky as she had thought it'd be, it's still something that feels like it's not just on the surface. It's still raw and a bit hollow, but it's not something he's forcing and she's glad for that.]

Yeah, I'm sure you think you do. [She glances around.] So, you're in Dragon's Hide - I mean, just a wild guess.

[ he looks up at that one, lips quirking up wryly ] I figure that's where I'm goin' when Helen finally gives me her stamp of approval.

[huntersdaughter]

[Jo nods, all of the questions she wants to ask are building up, but she figures that it's not polite to bombard him with things right away. She'll start slow.

Slow-ish.]

Can I ask where you've been located? I mean, you weren't big on flying where I knew you, so I can't imagine you're jet-setting all over this world, but did you just end up here and stick with it or... did you just end up here because that's where the Knights are based?

It's... kinda a long story. [ he tries for the short version, at least. ] I got called in to hunt a doppelganger by one of the Knights, who I'd worked with in Chicago a couple years back. [ he leaves out the 'my girlfriend' part for now. mr. long term relationship is still not used to this whole thing and he has a feeling jo from any world will be incredulous about the whole deal. ] I wound up stickin' around, and ... Sam showed up.

[huntersdaughter]

[She wants to dig more into Chicago, to see what he'd been up to there, to know where he'd been before that... if he'd been in Kansas or if he'd stuck to the road like he'd done when she knew him.

Then he slips Sam's name in there and she knows he'd done it on purpose. Deflecting away from him and putting Sam there. Sam she'd seen recently.]

Sam came through the Veil? When?

Last year. [ he looks away again, pressing his lips together ] I didn't believe it at first. Didn't make any sense.

[huntersdaughter]

[Considering everything she's heard so far, she's not sure she wants to ask why he had that doubt.]

Sam was the last of you that I saw. I mean, I haven't seen you in ... years. Sam at least was around before I dropped here. Is he alright?

[likedillinger]

He's younger than he should be. [ it's clear from the pained way he says that that he doesn't just mean in terms of age. he's younger in experience, and clearly that's both a good thing, and an emotionally complicated thing. ] Headstrong as always, but yeah.

He's alright.

[huntersdaughter]

You're a big brother, you're always going to say that. [She gets it though and she's just trying to soften the reality of their situation.]

Alright is good. I think I'd take alright on any day over some of the days we've seen.

[likedillinger]

[ something in her wording breaks his expression for a second, the pain filling his eyes again before he schools it ] You got no idea.

[huntersdaughter]

[Jo catches the little fluctuation of emotion there, but she doesn't say anything about it. There's no need to. They both know the sort of things that go on in their lives - this world or hers.]

We should get a drink sometime soon. I'm sure you're on your way somewhere now.

[likedillinger]

[ he glances towards the door again, as if he's already forgotten ] Yeah, uh. We should.

You let me know.

[huntersdaughter]

I will. [She nods.] I'm not going anywhere. [She offers him an honest smile, then nods again as she turns to head away to whatever she's going to do ~~ so he can go back to whatever he was doing.]

[ when she turns away, he watches her go with a somewhat helpless look on his face, before running a hand down his features, and turning reluctantly to head back to the door... squaring his shoulders and glancing up at the ceiling before he manages to keep going, muttering to himself: ] See you 'round, Jo.
