[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. [He does, but since this is still their first session, he doesn't want to put her in that kind of position of him forcing the conversation.]

Let's just start generally. How do you feel about your current mission with the Knights?

[witchwoman]

[The problem with that sort of question is that her entire life is basically surrounding this one mission.]

I don't... The work we do is good. I want to see the evils of the world stopped, but...

It can be very stressful, I'm sure.

[The mission has been going on for so long and he's sure there are moments where they just feel like they're in traction and not actually getting anywhere.]

To defeat one evil and find out there's still more out there?

[witchwoman]

We haven't-- [She lets out a strained breath, her chest tightening with the anxious feeling that overwhelms her when she thinks about this for too long.]

We haven't defeated anything, have we? We've only uncovered the layers of evil, the tangled knot of it. But we haven't stopped any of them. The only lives lost have been of our own- knights or people we were meant to protect. [Well, okay there were some guards that died on Andres, but she can't even call that a total win since the ultimate evils there... escaped.]

You still have more answers than you had before.

[They have more information than when they started, which is enough of a victory.]

Even if you haven't won the war yet, you've won a lot of smaller battles. Those victories are still important.

[witchwoman]

It doesn't feel like it. It doesn't feel like we've found anything but more pain.

[He leans back in the chair as he considers carefully.]

So you truly feel like no good has come of it. That the battle itself is futile?

[witchwoman]

[She glances down, going quiet again. She looks a bit like a child that's been scolded for giving the wrong answer in school.]

[He glances over, studying her for a moment, before shifting and leaning closer.]

There's no right or wrong answer here. I just want to make sure I understand what you're feeling. It's okay if you're frustrated with the way the mission has been going - if it were me, I would be too.

[witchwoman]

I just... I don't know what we're doing it all for. Because it's good? The right thing? Yes, lives have been saved, but so many have still been lost. And the darkness in the world only grows stronger.

[He pauses for a moment, before leaning back in his chair as he considers the best answer to her question.]

There's always going to be darkness in the world no matter what we do. It's the job we signed up for when we became knights - to be ... all too aware of the bad that is out there.

[There's a pause.]

But think about how much farther the darkness would have gotten if you didn't push back.

Perhaps you're right. It's just so hard to see sometimes.
