[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. [that makes his eyebrows raise. also i rolled for him to know what a stoat is and he did well. i'm so proud lmfao.] I dunno what I'd do with a stoat, anyway.

Look amazing. [ duh. she gives him a brief kiss on the cheek before releasing him and circling his little table to plop down at it, dropping her chin into her hand to look at him curiously. ] So how's things?

Good. You know how I am, doesn't take much to make me happy.

You really are a simple fellow. I brought you a present, but it's in my room. I was looking for Kadir, but found you instead. Like serendipity. [ she is clearly not put off by the trade off. ]

[buttholy]

Whaaaat? You didn't have to get me a present.

[hivern]

Shhhh, I missed birthdays and holidays, I stuck to one present. [ I HAVE SELF CONTROL. ]

[buttholy]

Fine, fine. Do I get it now or are you going to make me wait even longer?

[hivern]

Hmmmmmm. [ thinkin' about it... thinkin' about it... and then she hops up from her seat. ] Come along.

[buttholy]

[he gets up to follow her. wheeeeee]

I didn't buy it, at least. It was Avi's. [ avi is what she calls her million year old grandfather. la de da, she steers them down the hall to the dragon's hoard wing where her room is. ]

[buttholy]

[still sad about his wis roll. but he follows her along some more.] You don't have to give me anything, really. It's fine.

[hivern]

[ gently reaches up to cover his mouth with her hand. shhh.

AND LO, they've arrived at her room. it's... a room. her bags are dropped all over the floor, leather jacket flung across one of the pillows on her bed. by the foot of her bed is a long thin crate and she hefts it up to drop on the duvet. ]

Happy birthday and Christmas times two!

[ nestled inside the box in a pile of crumpled newspaper is a very old sword, dark with age and, upon closer inspection, there is delicate bluing and gilding in the etchings of the blade, a forest scene in the snow. the hilt is etched with bronze scales that are also etched on the steel scabbard. ]

[he approaches the box like what??? is this what i think it is???? and then he opens the box and channels the joy of the nintendo 64 kid bc omg cool new old ass ancient weapon omg dies!!!] Wh — wow! [as he picks up the sword and tenderly holds it in his arms like a lil baby] Do you know what this is?

Of course I do.

[ her hands clasp, watching him with a happy smile. ]

It's a French Hussar Officer's sabre. Avi was given it by a French Resistance member for his help smuggling people into Andorra during World War II. The way he tells it, it was an heirloom from the Frenchman's family. His great-grandfather was a solider who deserted during Napoleon's invasion of Russia. He left the sword for his family, but choosing not to shame them with his desertion, spent the rest of his days in exile until Napoleon was exiled and the French solider returned to his family.

I — wow. [he wasn't expecting that much story, okay.] You're sure you wanna give this to me?

Yes, I am. Avi had it in a trunk in the attic. Pare doesn't want it and you know I am ...bad, with swords. [ like probably stabbed him more than once kind of bad with swords. ] You will appreciate it, you are a good home.

[buttholy]

It belongs in a museum. [yeah that's what he says but he's not like rushing down to the british museum or anything so ???] ... Thanks, Winter.

You're welcome. I'm glad you like it. [ he can always bequeath it to a museum upon his death ok. ]

[ she's 50 shades of warm and fuzzy, overjoyed by dante's reaction and just grinning like a loon. ]

[buttholy]

[he resheathes it and sets it down delicately.] I'll take really good care of it, don't worry.

I know you will. [ not that she cares, tbh. if she didn't know dante had a boner for swords and old ass weaponry in general she would have just let her dad auction it off. ]

Stop thanking me! [ she laughs, shaking her head. ] It's not as if I paid for it.
