[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

It took me a hell of a long time to get it. [he relaxes visibly.] I've come to terms with the fact that maybe, as much as it all sucked, it had to happen that way. That tends to be the way of things, y'know? That don't mean I like it and I wish like hell it didn't have to be that way. Life's so much more than a trial by fire you have to survive day in and day out, just to earn a few moments of bliss at the end of it.

What like... it was fate or something? [Brow wrinkling, as if that's not a concept Rose easily accepts.]

[he makes a face.] I don't believe in fate. I got where I am because of choices I made. But if there's some higher power acting on us, I think it likes shoving shit in our path and judging us by how well we overcome it, choice after choice after choice.

[he shakes his head.] I probably deserve most of what I got, but there's people out there who don't.

I don't think it works like that. [More like she's figuring out where she stands on things than actually disagreeing with Des.]

Like, Karma and all that crap. I think bad things happen all the time, not cause people deserve it but because that's just what living is. You either let it take you down or you keep going.

[Her head lolls to the side so she can meet Des' gaze.] And I don't believe in fate, either. I believe in what I can do for myself.

[he won't meet her eyes. this is just something that weighs on him heavily.]

I've been living for a long time, and I can't think of a single reason why it has to be measured in what you can endure without breaking.

[he stands, awkwardly disengaging himself.] All it does is make me count the moments I'm truly happy and fight tooth and nail to stay that way, 'cause I just know the second my guard is down, I'll lose it all again.

[Rose remains silent, for the most part because she can't disagree with any of that, even if her life has been short compared to most, barely a heartbeat compared to his, she can still understand what he's saying.

She can't however just let him end things on that note, and it's one of those magical moments when Rose has a spark of wisdom that might border on profound. At least for her. (Wis 20 total).]

Just don't worry too much about losing it. [A beat.] You could end up fighting so hard to keep it, you forget to enjoy it.
