[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies. This takes place after the Knights have returned from rescuing Gar in New York City, but before the planned Keijen Blade concert at the beginning of 2017.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. You can also specify 'single thread', meaning you want only one response for all participants, rather than multi-thread, where a number of different scenes/threads can be done as replies to the top prompt.]

[ quinn, at least, keeps his composure and looks casually at ease, despite wynn's intimidating demeanor, and the grandiose setting that they find themselves in. he steps forward at her introduction, one hand in his pocket as he pulls the other hand free to extend towards the incredibly tall man. ] Gotta say, this outfit of yours is far from shabby.

[ wynn seems... on edge about all this. there are regulations for this kind of thing, faith, which are being blown right out the window. he fixes her with a long stare before meeting quinn's hand with his own. ] We certainly appreciate your assistance in those matters. An ugly business.

[Yep. Totally should have called first. Or run into Jack so he could have warned her against doing this at all. Her hand clenches up, fingertips rubbing against the heel of her hand. She wants to apologize for this, but she isn't really good at that and she figures if she's going to apologize she should do it after everything goes wrong. It'll be more comprehensive that way.

She wonders if she should even approach the topic of her leaving the Knights... It's probably not the best timing, now that she thinks about it. "Hey, here's this complete stranger I've just exposed the Knights to and by the way, I think I'm done with this gig."

Yeah, that won't work at all.

She also doesn't know what to do now. They've met. Is there something else she's supposed to do?]

The place looks good. I mean, you can hardly tell a tank came through here. [It sounds about as uncomfortable as it should be. She flexes her hand, not realizing how tightly she'd been holding that grip. Exhaling, she shakes her head, trying to clear off that sense of wrongdoing.]

Sorry, I shouldn't have interrupted. [She glances around, trying to see if she actually interrupted something. Maybe he's doing a crossword puzzle. Maybe Wynn is more one of those number things where you can only use each number one time type person. She's never thought about it until this very awkward moment.]

I wanted to talk to you about maybe taking a step back. [Welp. Looks like even if this isn't the right time for it, she's doing it anyway. More to add to that comprehensive apology.] I know there are some freelancers. [Her hand clenches closed again.] I just figured, I haven't been around to get sent out and if it's easier to just call on me when you need me.

I can do that. [a beat.] Instead of not being here as much.

The Freelancers are a sect of largely full time members whose talents don't fit into the regular ... pool. I think what you're considering is being a member part-time. Pursuing your own... interests [ there's a side glance at quinn, who seems oblivious at least ] until we have need of you.

Correct?

[She feels stupid for not even thinking to figure out what the Freelancers do around here. She'd just heard a few people mention it and thought it was what she wanted. Hearing the real role placed out for her by Wynn she realizes how that makes more sense. That they wouldn't have a whole sect of people that were just on call. It makes it a bit more real to her that she hasn't been as dedicated to this place as much as she is dedicated to the fight. Anyone could have recruited her into beating down things that go around killing innocents. She just ended up on Wynn's radar when she showed up and the rest went from there.

She thought she was good at it, too. At least, at the beginning. Her interests, though. They've strayed and the way he phrases it -- it's not a bad thing, but it feels like she shouldn't have given up so easily. She always comes back to what Angel told her. No matter how many years pass, no matter what she survives. It's always that she'll never be done fighting. Never be done making up for what she did.]

Yeah... [She sounds less sure of herself in the moment.] I want to help -- to keep helping, but I don't want to hold anyone back. [She says it as if she wants to believe she's important, but she's realizing that she isn't. That as she stated before, there are plenty of people that Wynn has at the ready to go out and fight. To help people. To solve those weird unsolved mysteries.

Man, whatever happened to that show? Does this place even have that show? Do they have that... Not the time.

Faith feels put on the spot, even though she's the one that put herself into this position.]

I mean, I haven't been here and I said I wanted to see the thing with Helen through, which I did [Tossing that in there as a reminder that she didn't drop the ball. That she can be relied on.] but you have others here. You've got Buffy and I'm sure she's all... [Better than her at this whole thing.] So, if it's easier... then yeah. You can just tell me when you need me.

Who do you believe you are holding back, Sir Lehane, by your presence? [ it's an earnest question, his eyebrows lifting at the implication. ]

[Man, poor Quinn. Just standing there while Faith has this minor internal conflict over what she really wants to do. It was easy for her to say she wanted to leave when it was just her outside these walls and not face to face with Wynn. Now, she's already talked herself out of leaving and putting herself on as part-time, but when he asks her who she thinks she's holding back - it startles her. Mostly because even though she knows she said the words, but she didn't think she'd have to answer any probing questions about it.

If she had just opened her mouth with the first thing that she thought of when Wynn asked her, she would have said herself. That she's holding herself back.

But she can't say that now. She can't say anything, really. Because she doesn't believe it to be true. She's not really holding anyone back -- or in the way. She's just not there enough for anyone to truly rely on her or think that they need her involved more than anyone else.]

[She shrugs, glancing away from Wynn for a moment.] I shouldn't have said that.

Then why did you? [ again, the question is asked seriously, not harshly. as if he really wants to know. quinn looks between them, but decides to keep his mouth shut for now, folding his arms and waiting for her answer ]

[She wants to deflect her way out of this conversation. To just go back to agreeing to be part time and suggest that Quinn help her out. Really, her plan had been to try and get him to see how great it could be to work with the Knights, but it doesn't seem to be going well for her - so why would she even think to open that up?

She exhales, that small amount of frustration with herself starting to get the better of her patience.]

Because that's what people say when they feel like they're not enough. 'It's not you - it's me. I don't want to hold you back.'

[Her hands clasp together, wringing tightly.] I've never been good with the whole team player thing and now I'm not even good at trying to step back either, apparently.

What is it that has led you to feel that you're not offering enough?

[She really wishes she hadn't started this conversation. She could have just kept up the whole staying away thing. She'd already told Wynn that she was going to take a break. Why did she have to make this an official thing?

Oh right. Because she wanted to see if she could get to work with Quinn on a more regular basis. Try to convince him of the benefits of this place. That was super smart. A great plan.

Anyway, she doesn't know what to say. She also doesn't like talking about this with Quinn right there. It's probably not selling how great this place is. Or maybe it's not selling how awesome she is. That whole illusion being pulled apart.]

How about the fact that I'm not here to offer anything? [She almost wants to throw the truth about that painting in here. To tell him that the reason she knew it'd been stolen was because she stole it. Well, with Quinn. Which wouldn't really sell anyone on Quinn being Knights material. Not that she believes that's going to happen now.]

I've spent more time away from this place than I have here looking to help. I mean, all I am good at is killing things and you've got plenty of people that can do that.

That's not true. [ it's a grudging admission, as if he can't sit there and listen to her sell herself short anymore, but he also recognizes that making wynn's argument here might be likely to send her away from him. ] She's good for a lot more than that.

[ he raises his eyes at wynn now, almost a bit accusing ] Is that what you've been making her think? That all she's good for is being a killer? [ wynn meets his gaze with a level one of his own, not answering, merely looking to faith instead for her response ]

[This is going so horribly wrong. This is why she doesn't like these sort of meetings. Having to explain things isn't her deal.]

That's not -- I mean, it's not as if it's a secret. [She didn't think it was a bad thing, either. She's good at knocking heads around. She ripped an eye-stalk off of a floating thing once! It was awesome.] And I'm on the right side of things this time. [God, she hopes she is.]

It's that desire to do right that is more valuable than your skills as a soldier. We can use you here, but I won't ask you to forsake your desires if something more draws you out into the world. But do not feel as if you have failed anyone.

[She exhales and nods. She still doesn't feel 100% about this whole conversation, but at least she feels like it's headed toward the ending.]

Thank you. [She looks to Wynn.] I was honest about being available if you need me for something.

[ at least that part does. wynn's eyes now sliiide to quinn ] Of course.

I imagine you did not bring this man here against protocol simply to witness this conversation.

God no. [Oh, that was out loud. But still true. Very true. Except, now she feels kinda dumb after everything that just transpired.]

I mean, I brought him to show him what I was a part of. It's the first time I've actually had something worth showing. [She didn't really have much of anything before showing up in this world. Back home she had a crap motel room, a secret loft that was bought and paid for by an insane lizard, and then prison. Of course, really it's more about having someone she actually wants to show these things to more than it is having the things.]

I should've planned it better, though.

An understandable impulse. And while we certainly appreciate the assistance Mr. O'Connor has given us, there are reasons why even our allies are asked to be brought under specific conditions, to protect the location of this castle.

I'm sorry about that. [Though, she's pretty sure a giant tank showing up on their front door isn't keeping this place exactly under wraps, but she understands what he means. She stops at joking about having someone from Mind give him a whammy, because she actually realizes that they might really have people that do that.]

It won't happen again.

I imagine it will not. [ he looks quinn over carefully ] Was there another reason you brought him?

[Sure... want to offer my boyfriend here a job in a way that makes him think that it's the best option for him? Maybe later?]

Right now? Nah, I'm good. [For now... She pauses.] When we're ready to leave, do you need me to do anything? [Metal detector?]

I don't think anything further will be necessary.

Just remember - you are always welcome back through these doors, Sir Lehane.

Thanks. [She says it with a nod, because she does actually appreciate hearing that from Wynn.

Then her and Quinn head back out into the castle proper, and away from the tension she still feels in that room.]

[ they're walking back out, quinn quite silent for awhile, until he finally glances back ] He always like that?

[She exhales a half laugh.] I couldn't tell you. I mean, that's probably the longest I've had to talk to him. It's usually more of a here's the information for your next mission. Then he sets up travel and then we report when we get back. It's not usually conversational.

I've never been... too comfortable around him. There's something about him that just doesn't fit with me. [He does remind her of the Mayor a bit. Providing all these people with places to stay, things to own. Trying to make people feel like they were special.]

There's another guy - Jack. He's more my speed. I've had some good talks with him. [She glances to him.] I bet if I had run into him first he would've told me not to do what I just did.
