Sidelined from the mission that has been many of their lives for years, the group who had once stood against Keijen Blade has made a dangerous gambit - they've decided to leave the Knighthood, knowing they may never be allowed to return.  With them, have gone Sam and Dean Winchester, and Faith Lehane.  Their destination?  A distant monastery overlooking the village of Krozna, in the Ural Mountains.   This hidden location was home to many Shadowkind who did not wish to deal with the prejudice that their appearance might force upon them out in the world, particularly in Russia.  Wynn had apparently established a location here for Knights that broke the rules of the Knighthood so extremely to reflect upon their crimes, or for those whose powers made it impossible for them to live out in civilized society.

This monastery of misfits is run by a man named Mikhail Kalachnik, a willing exile who volunteered for the position, a man vouched for as trustworthy by both Jack Chessing and Finnick Odair.  It is here that the former Knights will set up a base of operations from which they intend to rescue Rafael Giovanni, research a way to stop Keijen Blade, and take him down once and for all, along with the evil Mind Master.  

But first, they must get to know the exiled Knights with whom they will be sharing this hideout...

Because it's not my decision. Apparently Wynn doesn't think I've worked off my time yet. If he never comes back, I'm not sure who gets to make that decision anymore.

Jack. [ but vi waves her hand dismissively. ] Luckily, you're surrounded by a gang of renegades so if you want a taste of the knight life again. You can join our gang. If you call it a gang, I'm trying to make the gang thing a thing.

Well, if it's firepower your "gang" needs, they've come to the right place at least.

[ she mouths "thank you" ]

Why do I have a feeling you might mean that literally? [ wis 23 it's his fucking face ok ]

[ he grins, clearly pleased that she's caught on ] As literally as possible. I take it Jack didn't tell you anything about us.

Jack didn't even tell us to pack a frickin' sweater, so no. You guys are a well kept secret.

Right, the cold. I'm sure we can get you some more appropriate clothes made from the locals. [ says the guy in a suit??? ] I was part of the Dragon's Mind, but I'm not a telepath. You might say my abilities are a little more ... specialized.

[graveflowers]

I'm part of the Dragon's Light and I'm not a cleric. [ so you know, books and covers. ]

What can you do?

[selfcombust]

You show me yours and I'll show you mine. [ his eyes glitter with humor and admittedly a little curiosity of his own ] Maybe not around the little girl.

[ ... ] Not exactly safe. Unless she's flame retardant.

She's not. Lucia... Glowbug, please pack up yours toys. [ lu starts to whine, but vi holds her up hand like don't even kiddo. ] We're gonna stop by Zia Myri's room, you're gonna stay with her and Shay for a little bit. Momma has to work.

[ the idea of hanging out with her bestie mollifies lucia immediately and she shoves her toys into the bag with such haste she loses a couple blocks under the sofa, jabbering excitedly. ]

[ as they're headed down the halls, dom strolling slowly behind, he says carefully: ] I didn't notice any elf along for the ride.

Her father died fighting the Nightmare Lord before she was born.

[selfcombust]

[ his face drops a bit, the smugness vanishing into something much more serious ] I'm sorry to hear that.

[ vi's life knows how to ruin a moment ]

Thank you. [ at least she knows how to accept condolences now ] It's been three years, you don't need to feel like... it's not a mine field you're walking into or anything.

Apparently you've been fighting this ... god business for awhile.

Yeah, I'm lucky like that. Gimme a second. Come on, Lu.

[ vi takes a couple minutes to tuck lu in with myri and shay, assuring myri that she'll call her if anything happens because that's how they roll. she slips back into the hallway, closing the door behind her. ]

It was incidental, the god fighting, it wasn't like I ever set out to punch 'em in the face for a living.

I can't imagine most do. [ he leads her out towards a set of stairs that lead outside ]

He started it, in my defense.

A timeless argument. [ annnd out they go into the frigid fucking cold, where he starts up some steps towards the roof.

he looks entirely unaffected by the cold, even though he isn't even wearing a coat. ]

[ meanwhile brr. ]

So we have... had? Anyway, there is this Ifrit girl at the castle, smoking hot, I make no apologies for that, but like seriously, ridiculously attractive, it's disgusting. We've never met, I just stared at her from afar. And I've seen lava giants. All this to say: if you breathe lava or throw fire or juggle volcanos, cool. But I will freeze to death if this takes sixteen years and I am too cute to die of frostbite. Or gangrene from frostbite.

Like as a warning, I will haunt you.

[selfcombust]

[ he smirks at her words as they walk across the expanse of the roof area, and then lifts his hand to his chest, turning to look at her. ] You have my word. I won't let that happen. [

and then his hand bursts into flame. within seconds, the fire spreads across his entire body, his eyes visible through the licking flames, glowing white-hot now in a way that seems to transform him from a mere man into something almost god-like himself. he snaps his hand down and there's a sudden tendril of flame that extends along with it, cracking against the floor and leaving sparks where it strikes. the flame whip looks barely stable, glowing whiter as he flicks his wrist and uses it to strike at one of the low walls of the roof, leaving scorch marks there.

in fact, now that she looks, there's a lot of scorch marks up here.

the heat radiating off from his body is enough to banish the cold up here almost instantly, and she feels the heat carried on the wind as it brushes her face, which is no doubt illuminated by the dancing fire as well. ]

[ vi whispers: ] Oh my Johnny Storm.

[ because she's an adult. but she watches him with awe, lips parting in surprise. this boy is literally on fire and even though vi is the daughter of a nature goddess and plants are very flammable, she knows the renewing power of fire. she can't deny that the warmth draws her in like a moth to, well, a flame. her cheeks feel hot, eyes stinging with dry, but gosh, it's beautiful.

when she manages to speak again, it's a half-breathless, half-wry: ] Show off.

[ he grins from within the flames, lowering their intensity just a bit so that she can more clearly make out his features, more of a dim glowing nimbus around himself now ] Oh, that? Wasn't showing off.

But if you insist...

[ and with that, he'll banish the firewhip and step to the crenellated edge of the roof, climbing up on the thin wall, looking back at her with a wink, and then stepping out into the air.

his foot seems to step firmly onto nothing, and he follows it up with another step, and another. each time he takes a step, he leaves a strange smoking aftermath in the air there, hanging for a moment before the wind blows it away ]
