[ kali had been checking out a hockey game at a sports bar, but when it ends, she wanders out into the street, only to run into malina. or rather, walk into malina's path and deftly sidestep out of the way. ]

[ are we just being friendly? her nose wriggles a little though and she smells the feline equivilent of tiny human (KITTIES) and turns around to see where malina is charging toward. ]

[Malina is ignoring Kali for the moment, but now they've drawn the attention of the shady pair, one who's looking more anxious and the other - the one holding the box - who just looks annoyed.]

What the hell's your problem?

[Malina just raises her eyebrows, arms crossed in front of her chest.]

Why don't you tell me what you guys are doing with those?

[ something is happening, that much is clear. kali looks between them curiously, squinting at malina. she recognizes her from alec's squiring party. a knight! an impromptu mission! or just some shady dudes with a box of small animals. ]

Animal trafficking?

[She glances over to her before shaking her head eyes wandering over them for a moment and taking in their appearance (wisdom 14).]

Nah. If they were doing that it'd be a smoother operation.

[Idiot #1 holding the box looks offended.]

Hey!

[Malina rolls her eyes.]

Don't hey me. You're the one off to harm innocent little animals.

[ she still looks a little confused like... harm? kitties? they two concepts don't make sense to her when combined. why would anyone?

after a second, she gasps, affronted. ]

Hey! No. That is rude.

[Idiot #1 looks increasingly more irate.]

Why don't you just back off, alright? You don't know what you're talking about!

[Idiot #2, however, suddenly feels the need to contribute, though he probably shouldn't.]

They're just for our weekly poker match, alright?

[ AFFRONT INTENSIFIES and kali makes an upset lizzie maguire yelp before she suddenly pounces on the guy not holding the box of teeny animals with a grapple check of 30. since she doesn't have improved grapple (yet!) the dude gets an aoo to try and oppose her. ]

[When she makes a grab for Jamart (HP 50), he tries to take a swing at her but with his attack of 20, he's close but no cigar. Then Kali has him and he's struggling to get away back but he is so not even in the ball park of strong enough (opposed grapple 7).]

What the hell?

[George (HP 40) is getting ready to bail with the tiny fluffy creatures, but before they can Malina casts shocking grasp, gripping his arm to get him to stay put (touch attack 12, damage 18). As he freezes up, she reaches for the box before he can drop it (reflex save 20 total, strength 15).]

[ yep, kali just casually has jamart in a headlock, intending to knock him the fuck out so once he is pinned, she just keeps him there. (grapple 26; 11 subdual dmg + 14 from initial grapple, 25 total) ]

Why are you gambling with small animals? [ she addresses george because she's not currently crushing his windpipe. ]

[Jambert (HP 25) clearly does not know what to do with the fact that this tiny blond is just manhandling him because when he tries to get out again, he's still not trying very hard (opposed grapple 11).

George (HP 22) just stammers slightly, looking between the two of them as he still twitches off the remains of Malina's last attack, unsure of what to do.]

It's harder to trace. Plus, you'd be surprised what people need a few kittens and puppies for.

[ kali's eyes narrow, still holding on. /cues avril lavigne. (grapple 20 total, subdual dmg 14) ]

If I ask, I don't think I will like the answer, will I?

You really don't want to know, sweetie.

[George looks like he's about to consider trying to make a run for the tiny creatures again, but between Kali having his partner pinned and knowing what Malina can do, he decides it's not worth it and turns and books it for the mouth of the alley.

Jambert (HP 11) growls after him as he tries to struggle free again (opposed grapple ... 6).]

Get back here you little bitch!

That's rude.

[ and with a grapple of 28, she puts jambert to sleep. (subdual dmg 13) she sets him down none to gently, basically just releasing him and letting him drop against the cement. whoops. ]

They need to learn manners.

They really do.

[She takes a breath, before glancing down at the creatures in her arms.]

But right now, I think we need to get these guys home, until I can find a nice safe shelter for you.

You're not going to keep them?

Oh, I'm pretty sure my familiar would try and eat them. But I may pawn some of them off on some of the other folks I live with, see if they're looking for a little animal companionship.

[It's a big castle. She's sure she can pawn off at least a few of them before they go off to the shelter.]

[ she looks in the box and quickly counts. ] How many people do you live with?

[ yeah she failed her wis check to recognize malina from around the castle. a+ ]

[She, however, makes hers and then some (wisdom 14).]

In fact, you could almost say we live with a small army.

Do you live with the Royal Marines?

[ not... the sharpest tool in the shed tbh. ]

[Oh, sweetie. She laughs slightly before shaking her head.]

No. I live with the Karthur Institute. Just like you.

[Just in case the bad guys are still around and listening.]

Oh! Oh, I get to bring the kitties and puppies home, too? [ AWESOME. ]

[She laughs.]

At least until we can find them a good home. I'll have to see if there's a no-kill shelter around, because as kind-hearted as some of our coworkers are, I don't think we'll be able to find homes for all of them.

Okay, let's go! [ gonna save the babies, tbh. ]

[And off they go to Malina's car, where she will shuffle the box into the back footwell behind the driver's seat, and Kali can sit wherever she likes. She's also aware it's likely that she's going to have tiny fluffy creatures all over the back seat by the time they stop, but right now she's mostly focused on the chorus of crying puppies and kittens when the car starts to lurch forward.]

I get it, I get it, you don't like the car.

[ she sits in the front seat, but once they're driving she leans back to scoop up a puppy and let it gambol around in her lap freely, putting it's little paws up on the window.
