[ gus is in new york. he's mourning, which is gus speak means he's working 60+ hours a week and getting high and fucking strangers. as you do. but his routine is pretty basic and he goes from home to work to home ordering take out and that's mostly it.

[when he comes home at some point, astrid is already in his apartment thanks to her killer disable device check. she has a lot of cat burglar skills for someone who's supposed to be a medic, okay. she's already working on making smoothies for them in his blender. if he didn't have the right ingredients, she probably went out and bought some, ok. SHE JUST NEEDED A GAY BOY TO COME TO WITH HER PROBLEMS :( /racism?????? w/e astrid wouldn't care. when she hears him try the door, she pretty much leaps across the counter like an olympic gymnast so she can tackle him.]

GUS! YOU'RE HOME!! YAY!!!

[ he just drops his bottle of water and watches it roll back down the stairs he just walked up before he turns to the ginger just in his house. ]

[she's just hugging him and ignoring the part where she was all b&e up in his life.] I missed you so much!!

[ oh god, now there is hugging. he's still in too much of a state of confusion to do anything but stand there. ]

[ wtf is even happening. ] Uh, sure. [ he finally moves into HIS OWN HOUSE since he was accosted at the door and takes his suit jacket off, throwing it over a chair before loosening his tie. ] What kind of smoothie?

[Yes, that would be Malina's voice floating from somewhere in his bedroom. Unlike Helen, who is doing useful things, Malina is scrounging for booze.

Astrid drank it all. [ HIS FACE IS A LINE FACE. that's not really true, he drank it all after she left. what was left over after she spiked the smoothies.

[And with that she will make her way out of his bedroom - don't worry, she wasn't wandering into anything too personal - and cut straight across to the laundry room instead.]

Speaking of... [well that's not exactly normal. While helen will partake in Gus' fun, she's usually not one to suggest it.]

We've missed you, you know. It's perfectly fine to miss a friend.

[ knock knock knock

when gus opens the door, a paladin is standing in the middle of new york in full plate, the reins of a horse held in his hand where she paces on the sidewalk, drawing stares from everyone walking past. ] Is there no place here to quarter horses?

[ gus looks like he wants to literally jump into traffic. good thing it's so close! why his life. why this. why.

he looks between lan and daisy briefly before he shakes his head in resignation. ]

Hold on, I'll get some quarters.

[ he ducks back inside, but returns a few moments later with a roll of quarters and motions to a nearby parking meter. ] You can tie her up there.

[ IT'S THE BEST HE CAN DO WITH NO NOTICE. ]

I don't understand how you sleep with this racket so close to your chambers.

I like it the din, it's like white noise. [ he puts the quarters in the meter until it stops accepting any. maybe lan will leave after two hours?

where is lan staying?

Racket. [he repeats, already walking inside ahead of gus, not bothering to wait ]

Hey! [ WHY IS THIS HIS LIFE?!?!?!? he hollers ] Third floor! [ after lan, so he can pet daisy a little bit longer. hi daisy, who is a good horsie? you're a good horsie. yes, you are. have a baby carrot. it's all he has on literally no notice at all. /jumps into traffic.

anyway, if lan just marches through the open door, he would find himself in this apartment. the bedroom, bath, office, and laundry are hidden on the other side of the kitchen, but it has an airy, open feel that is compounded by the literal walls of windows and the fact that there are plants everywhere. hanging from planters attached to the ceiling, on tables, draped across and falling off the balcony.

korean pulled pork is cooking on the crockpot that smells delicious and between that and the oxygen giving plants, you can't even smell the weed. he's such a good. if lan is not dissuaded by the modernness of the loft, he may find a small chipmunk sitting on the couch, seemingly watching tv while he eats sunflower seeds. ]

[ yeah lan is still literally standing in the doorway when he catches up, as if he's contemplating burning the whole thing down, or worried that stepping over the threshold will damn his soul idek ]
