Closed to Mark and Buffy separately | mid February

[In the days after the team's return from the Grammys, Myri feels as though she's trying to remember her own routine without having Finnick at her side. Her bedroom feels cold without him in it, but he can't seem to settle when she's near, so how could she ask him to stay? She's most often found in the Dragon's Light wing, trying to keep busy so that she doesn't have time to stop and think about her life falling apart. If Mark were to ask around on any given day, he would likely find her working away.]

[Myri glances over at Buffy as they sit in the waiting room, nervously tapping her foot and chewing on her lip as they await her name to be called to go back for her ultrasound.. This part is still very new for her. She's never seen machines likes the ones they have here. And it's also hard not to think about how her husband isn't here with her. She loves Buffy dearly, but she wishes Finnick might have shown some sign of improvement since they returned home.]

I never thought myself an impatient person until now....

[slay]

I wonder how much of our lives are siphoned away in waiting rooms. [ She sounds like she's under the impression that they are, in fact, in purgatory, and will live the rest of their lives out here with no hope of ever hearing Myri's name called. To be fair, she's probably not far off. ] I mean, are we talking days or weeks when it's all added up?

[witchwoman]

[She manages a small laugh, reaching for Buffy's hand and giving it a light squeeze.]

Thank you for coming. It means so much to me.

[And then to distract herself, she changes the topic.]

Did you talk to Rafael last night? I was reading something about the other day that said the tour was going well.

[she might have specifically looked just to check up on him on her own.]

[slay]

It is! Yeah, it sounds like he's doing better. [ She's never ever ever clarified precisely what "better" is in relation to, but that's Buffy's favorite party line these days. Rafael has Improved. ] And you know, I told him about Spike and about Des. [ And about Finnick, but that's kind of the taboo topic these days. ] I'll tell him you were asking. [ She looks over at Myri, smiling warmly. It's a good sign that Myri pulled herself out of this low enough to do some checking up. ]

[witchwoman]

[She manages a very small smile before opening her mouth to speak again, but a nurse comes out and calls her name. So they can finally go back and...wait another fifteen minutes for the technician lbr.

Myri stands, keeping her hand in Buffy's so they can walk back there together. She gets herself onto the chair/bed thing. I'm so good at medical things.]

Is it strange to feel nervous about find out?

[slay]

I don't think so.

[ Buffy's nose crinkles, and she shrugs her acceptance. ]

I mean, you've got a person growing inside of you. After that, I think "strange" is a hard bar to meet.

[witchwoman]

It's a wonderful feeling, though. I never thought I would know what it felt like- not truly. Back home, it's always said that witchwomen can't bear children. Something about this place must have changed that.

[And it did so, only to leave her husband completely lost to her. Such a cruel fate, but she has to trust the Stargods.]

You think the Veil's magic changed something?

[ Or the way that the Veil changed her magic, maybe. Buffy certainly sounds surprised by the notion. ]

Have you talked to Gar and Helen any about it? That sounds worth looking into.

[witchwoman]

I haven't, no. I haven't really had much time to think about it. You think I should? [well now she's worried maybe something's wrong...]

Perhaps we can find Gar when we get back...

[slay]

Seems like something worth knowing. Not just for you, but with all Gar's looking into the Veil and its effects, if it's changing or healing people ... [ She shrugs one shoulder. ]

[witchwoman]

I'll talk to Gar once we get back from this. You're right- if anything about this is out of the ordinary, it should be looked into.

[slay]

Right. The Veil is a project for later: we've got a baby surprise to focus on.

[ She settles into the designated family member chair that all check-up rooms have to wait for the doctor to come in.

And come in she does, white coat hanging open over otherwise business professional attire with soothing flower patterns and pastel colors, the picture of the feminine mystique as these women's clinics tend to be when they're not being shut down by Texan congressmen.

She's genial in how she asks Myri to cycle through some standard procedure tests to record basic vital statistics and track her overall health. ]

[witchwoman]

[Myri's so used to all of this by now. She just goes through the motions of the appointment. The nerves inside of her flutter anew as they near the point in the exam where they attempt to see the sex of the child. Her hand reaches out for Buffy's gripping tight.]

[ he stalks right into the doors of the dragon's light wing, pausing there and looking around as if his life depends on it, a pained look in his eyes. when he finally sees her, he steps inside, getting close enough that he won't draw everyone's attention when he lowers his voice and says gently: ] Myri.

[witchwoman]

[She doesn't notice him at first, not until he says her name. There's a very small, very hopeful part of her that lets herself believe it's Finnick, that he's shaken this off, that he's come back to her. She turns quickly, eyes full of that hope, but the light dimming just as quickly when she realizes it's not Finnick. The only time in her life that she's not thrilled to see Mark.]

Mark? What are you doing here?

Looking for you, actually. [ he glances around, clearly not wanting other people to like listen in on this ] I came to see you.

[witchwoman]

[She searches his face, watching as he glances around them. With a spectacular crit fail of her wisdom check, she just will never think first of her own misfortune as a reason for someone to abandon their important work.]

Has something happened on Andres?

[Clearly he needs her. That must be why he's here, right?]

What? No... [ he puts one hand on her arm ] I'm here for you. I heard-- heard what happened.

[witchwoman]

Oh. [Her gaze drops, nodding and seeming to shrink back into herself a bit. She glances around, much like he had a few moments prior, looking for signs of anyone else nearby to listen in on the conversation.]

You didn't have to-- I mean... We're still not sure what can be done for him. And I know how important this time is for you to set things right. I don't want you to feel like you need to be here.

[Mark had only started to get things put back in the right place, reclaiming his home, undoing the horrors that Sarandis had brought upon the people of Andres. She didn't want... this to put a stop to any of that.]

Why don't we go for a walk?

[witchwoman]

[She just nods, finding that her voice isn't as strong as she wishes it was. With a glance back at the work she likely doesn't need to do but has been doing anyway, Myri takes a deeper breath before heading out with Mark. She isn't sure where they're going but she trusts him and prefers to let someone else make those decisions right now.]

[ they head down the hall, and he gestures them up towards the stairs that lead to the roof. it's only once they're there, that he turns to her and pulls her into a warm hug, without saying anything else. ]

[witchwoman]

[She falls into the embrace, eyes shutting and a small noise of relief escaping her. She's not crying, but it's very clear that the weight of this has been pressed down upon her even since they returned from the awards show.]

I came here for you, alright? I thought-- Well, it doesn't matter. I wanted to be here.

[witchwoman]

[This hug isn't over, for the record. She just holds onto him.]

I'm glad you came. [Despite worrying that she's taking away from his duties, it is good to have him here to lean on.]
