[The bartender brings them their drinks (and Des's delicious plate of pub food) as they wait for Ashley to arrive. Des nurses his quietly for a moment, looking behind him at the door, despite knowing that the drive is actually long and it probably hasn't been enough time yet.]

Wynn's really gotta consider getting a place that's not so far out. [He gnaws on a fry idly.]

[Checking her phone again, Helen taps her nails against the side of her glass, trying not to let nerves get the better of her.]

There is an office in London, you know. It's just not quite large enough for the lot of us.

Oh, I've seen it. [ahahaha cars with their brakelines cut came from there sobs.] Guess it's hard to be a secret organization full of hundreds of people right here in the middle of the city. Vi would be making Hogwarts jokes about now.

Should I order a round of butterbeer next, in her honor? [Helen knows all about Hogwarts okay. She called Nikola Tesla 'Dobby' when he got snippy with her about fixing the electrity in her house. That he broke, mind.]

I'm sure they've got it on tap in London these days. [hahahaha because england is only harry potter and doctor who. nothing else.]

[She rolls her eyes at him and steals some of his food off his plate. Because that was terrible and he deserves to lose a few chips over it.]

Ashley! [The excitement to see her daughter is hard to ignore. Having her here still feels surreal. And maybe she's a little nervous about these two meeting. As much as she trusts they'll get along, there's enough similarities between them that they could butt heads as well.]

Oh, Des- no need to flatter. [At least she doesn't blush this time.]

She takes his hand firmly, shaking it.]

Ashley. Even if you knew that already. Nice to meet ya. [Then she looks at her mother, nodding.] Starving. They've got a killer training room at the Castle, but it sure makes me work up a hell of an appetite.

[he shrugs, his grin cheeky.] Likewise. You do a lot of sparring?

It's nice not to have to just spar with myself anymore. It doesn't work as well.

I'm always willing to go a few rounds, dear. But I'm not as young as I used to be.

Now that I'd like to see. [He takes a swig of his beer and looks at Helen.]

[Just a deadpan amused look at that. It's not like you have to deal with osteoporosis or something, Mom.]

I'd be down, though. It's been awhile since we did that. [She grins.] The student becomes the master.

Is that so? [That student/master comment has her looking a little amused.]

Well- we can always take this outside.

[She grins. To be honest, she doesn't even care if Helen totally beats the crap out of her. She'd pay to see her rough someone up.

[A few months ago she likely wouldn't even be entertaining the idea. Sparring has a time and a place. Fighting in an alley behind a bar is hardly the way she should spend time with her daughter right now. But her time with Des has been...enlightening. She's learning that sometimes, doing something you normally wouldn't? Can be quite a lot of fun.]

I hope your book keeping skills are up to par, Mr. Descant. [Her smile is quite devilish. Just gonna have a friendly fight with her daughter. No big deal. To Ashley she just raises an eyebrow.]

[Even Des looks pretty impressed by Helen's agreement to be all showy in public. He signals to the bartender to hold off on everything and slides off his barstool, laughing.]

Why did I think this would be casual dinner? I'm dealing with Magnus Squared.

[And off they go! Outside to have a friendly brawl. Helen can't help but grin. What a way to welcome your daughter back from the dead, right?]
