[Killian's been a little bit morose, ever since a certain old acquaintance of his showed up. It hasn't helped that Emma Swan is being as evasive as she used to be. He thought things were getting better between them. Add that to the ongoing mystery of Faye's sudden distance and her mystery lad, and... well. It's high time he tracks down a certain lass of his.

It takes him a while (search 12), but he's relentless, and when he does find her, he has a smile for her, though there is a certain level of question in his eyes. He has noticed her absence, after all.]

Swan, love. Are you avoiding me?

[Why bother with small talk?]

[uncurse]

What, not spending every five minutes together is avoiding you now? [ The rebuff comes hard and blunt, and she busies herself with cleaning up her station in the firing range. ] That's a little intense for one date.

[unhand]

[He leans against the wall, eyeing her thoughtfully. He knows her well enough that he recognizes the signs (sense motive 17). Not seeing her was hint enough, but her brusque attitude and the way she's busy doing anything but looking at him... it's all pretty clear.]

Not every five minutes, perhaps, but I was optimistic about a second date. Would you accompany me to dinner?

[uncurse]

Look.

[ She sighs, setting her gun down on the counter and turning to face him, gaze level and unflinching. If anything, she simply looks tired due to having to explain this. There's not much to indicate that she's being less than sincere but for her track record (bluff 21). ]

We had fun. It was … nice, sure, but let's not ruin that by trying to pretend it's more than it is. [ It's the kind of tagline that one might expect from the Emma who'd first set foot in Storybrooke, not the woman she'd become since her journey through the Veil. She looks genuine, though. ] One date is the farthest I usually go with a guy, and with good reason.

My father is in exile. My mother is coddling the Evil Queen, and sooner or later, that's gonna blow up in her face, and god only knows what Faye's problem is. I don't have time to be thinking about dating right now, Killian. So take a hint.

[In the best use of an action point ever, Killian gets a nat 20 sense motive. She's an open book to him, and not only can he tell that this reversal of interest isn't about him, he can tell that there is something she's hiding. He steps in towards her, reaching out to lightly touch her face. His expression is soft, sympathetic and completely lacking in any anger over the rejection. Partly because he doesn't believe it. Emma has pushed him away before. He thought they had gotten past it, but that's Emma for you. Always a challenge.]

I'm not asking you to think about it, Emma. I'm asking you to let me help you with your burden. [Especially Faye. He does have a potential lead on her, after all, but he wants to deal with Emma first.] You're acting... different. Did something happen on Andres?

[uncurse]

[ With a nat 20 will save, Killian's diplomacy check does shit all to improve Emma's attitude towards him. She reaches up to swat his hand away from her face, taking a step back, guarded in how she ices him out. ]

I don't want your help. [ She snaps quickly. ] A war happened—one more battle my parents had to fight apart. David is only going to come back if we get him back. That's what I need to be focusing on right now.

[unhand]

[That does hurt a little, but he doesn't press. Not now. He doesn't know what's going on with Emma, but that doesn't change that he's going to stick with her.]

He's my friend, you know. I want to help.

[uncurse]

Great. Then stop trying to hit me up and help. [ Said with snappish finality that conveys how much she doesn't intend to revisit the date conversation. ]

[unhand]

And how shall I do that? Shoving away the people who care about me and shooting things? [He raises an eyebrow.] How well is that working for you?

[uncurse]

At least I'm doing something.

[ She snaps, grabbing her gun and fitting it into her holster. In one jerky motion, she hangs her earmuffs up on the hook by the stall and breezes past Hook, ready to abandon him there now that he's proven unproductive. ]

[unhand]

That's not something. That's using your father as an excuse. [Yeah, he's following Emma. One of these days, he really should stop chasing that woman, but it's not happening now.] If you want to do something, we really need to talk about Faye. She's someone you can help.

[uncurse]

Faye doesn't want my help.

[ She doesn't stop walking, though she does sound irritated in favor of skipping straight past hurt. ]

She made that very clear.

[unhand]

Perhaps not, but she certainly needs it. Before she gets herself, or someone else hurt. Have you talked to that new boy of hers? Jordan?

[uncurse]

[ That gets Emma to finally round on him at the exit of the firing range, throwing her arms out to her side like she's fed up. ]

Why do you keep bringing him into this? What's your problem with this guy? [ Is it because he's Kyle XY and has no belly button. Is it. ]

[unhand]

Because he's either a worse liar than your mother, or he really wanted me to know every word that came out of his mouth wasn't true. [And he has no belly button. I mean that's just weird.] He kept going on about how happy they were as though he were a player reading lines. I think she might have done something to him.

[What, he can't imagine. But he doubts very much it's anything good.]

[uncurse]

Don't be ridiculous. Faye can't dominate someone; she doesn't have that kind of power. [ Emma writes it off with a scoff. ] And even if she did, she wouldn't.

[unhand]

Perhaps not, but that doesn't change the fact that he's hiding something. Whatever is going on with her, he knows, and he wouldn't tell me. [And Killian really does believe it's because he wasn't capable.]

[uncurse]

[ Her tongue presses to the inside of her cheek. She tries to find another way to shut him down, but there simply isn't one. It's a good lead, and she has every reason to be concerned and follow it up. It's never mattered in the past who wants her in their business: she has a way of doggedly inserting herself. Especially when it comes to someone she cares about as much as she cares about Faye. ]

What do you want me to do? Shake her down? That pretty much backfired at nuclear proportions last time.

[unhand]

[He can see he's getting to her, and while she still might not want to talk about his relationship with her, at least they might be able to help Faye. Even if she is doing something to Jordan, Killian's sure she's not beyond hope. They can reach her.]

No, that wouldn't help anything. But I do think you might be able to get more out of Jordan than I did. You're good at that.

[uncurse]

[ She studies him for another long moment, then sighs, reaching one hand up to rub at her forehead. ]

Fine. I'll talk to him. But if I come out of this feeling like he's just her happy boyfriend? You leave the kid alone.

[unhand]

[He nods, a smile flickering over his face.] I trust you, Emma. If you see nothing wrong with him, I'll back off.

[Which is partially entirely true, since he does have lots of faith in Emma's judgment, and partly, well, come on, she's gonna see the same thing he did.]

[uncurse]

Deal.

[ She nods. ]

I'll track him down. [ That's a dismissal if he's ever heard one. ]

[unhand]

That's all I ask. [But he hesitates before moving on.] And Emma? I'm not giving up on you, love. Don't cut me out.

[uncurse]

[ She visibly struggles to swallow that, watching him carefully, then shoulders past. ]
