Go for it. [ while lan does that, gus will pour himself a glass of water. ] You want anything to drink?

What sort of spirits do you have?

Cheongju, vodka, beer, scotch, soju. Water.

[ he gets a beer out of the fridge for lan, pouring it into a glass, and pours himself a small glass of soju, setting them both in front of lan before taking a seat opposite him. ]

Well, I certainly didn't come all this way for the clean air. [ dramatic huff as he glances out the window and avoids answering ]

Lan. [ come on, dad. out with it, old man. ]

Youth always thinks the world has to revolve around them, doesn't it? If I'm going to apologize, you can damn well wait for me to do it on my own time here.

[ he sets his glass carefully down, propping his elbows on the table between them. ]

Lan, you don't... have anything to apologize for.

[ he's very serious. he was admittedly upset with the revelation, hurt that lan didn't tell him, but that doesn't mean lan needs to apologize for it. if there was anything to forgive, gus had done it already. ]

Is that what I came all this way to hear?

Is it? If you came for forgiveness, you have it, but there was never anything to forgive in the first place.

[ he sighs, scrubbing a hand across his face. ] Was I upset you didn't tell me? Of course I fucking was. But that doesn't mean I was ever entitled to your secrets, you never had any obligation to tell me that part of yourself until you were damn good and ready. If anyone should apologize it should be me to you for acting like a fucking toddler.

It's difficult to find that what we thought we knew for years about anyone has been a deception.

Secret. [ deception seems too harsh. ] You know I'm Buddhist, right? There's these things in Buddhist stories called yakṣa. They're pretty much werewolves, but they're the attendants to this god, Vaiśravaṇa. This guy is the god that protects the righteous, the... fucking just and morally upstanding people that you can actually call virtuous. [ more alcohol, he's gonna take a drink before he continues. liquid courage for being a sap. ] Lan, you're a paladin, you're the most... good person I know. [ even if he's afraid of cell phones. ] That hasn't changed.

[ if it's good enough for vaiśravaṇa, it's good enough for gus. ]

[ well he does not like getting called out on his self-esteem problems, that's what this grumpy face says. ] In spite of my condition. Not because of it.

You've met Cora, you can't tell me she's not the greatest kid. [ second to felicity, who was second to lucy. ] And also a werewolf.

That's the definition of what we are. Lycanthrophy is a sickness. One that has a short-term cure, if delivered quickly enough.
