[ alice is also doing the work out and hydrate thing, but it's really more like stop in the middle of her work out and lay on the floor to drink her gatorade dramatically. ]

I punch like a girl. [ she's so sad about it. ]

[Zoe tilts her head - slight confusion on her features.]

You are a girl. That's not a bad thing, you know. If you were punching like a sloth - then I'd be worried. Those things are slow.

You make a valid point. They have those claws though. Bet those come in handy. [ chugs her gatorade. ]

Shredding things at the speed of... a sloth. [She smirks.] It's good in theory, but probably not in practice.

Last time I was in combat, I spent most of it unconscious so it'd still be doing better than that. [ she s l o w l y pantomimes clawing the air. ]

[kineticist]

I could give you some tips - pointers of a sort.

[icouldbe_bess]

Yeah? [ she props herself up on her elbows, interested. ] Like what?

[kineticist]

[Zoe laughs and shifts her stance.]

About seventy percent of a punch is in your balance, because it's not all from your arm -- but from your whole body. [Also 82% of all statistical percentages are made up.]

[ that gets her to stand and adopt her stance, after setting aside her gatorade. ] Luckily, like a weeble, I'm super balanced.

[kineticist]

That's good, because having good balance keeps you on your feet all the way through the punch.

[la la la, she'll circle around her and use her foot to kick at Alice's feet. Closing up her stance a bit.] You're smaller, so you have to keep yourself locked in. Don't give anyone the chance to take you off that balance.

[She pauses.] I'm Zoe, by the way.

Alice.

[ she's very easy to pose like a barbie and doesn't seem fussed about shifting to where zoe wants her. it makes sense anyway; the stance she'd immediately adopted was one more for absorbing the recoil of a gun, not throwing a punch. the basics of self-defense her dad taught her had been messy and dirty -- kick 'em in the nuts so you can run away. the key was alice running away. ]

My brother tried to teach me once, but got distracted making out with the guy that was supposed to be my test dummy.

[kineticist]

I can see how that would stall things... [Zoe won't be making out with anyone during training sessions. She saves that for off-hours.]

Here, with this stance you can follow through all the way. [Her hand guides an arm outward, as if throwing a ball and she taps her hand to her hip to get her to move with it.]

Do you feel how it's all lined up? Do it again, but with a closed fist this time.

Yeah, Aaron had some attention difficulties in our youth. [ she follows zoe's movements, copying them neatly. (dex 18) and then tries to do it again on her own, curling her hand into a fist and giving a slow swing, hip following in a fluid rotation. she looks back at zoe hopefully. ] Was that okay?

[kineticist]

[Zoe watches and nods a bit.]

Did it feel comfortable? If it felt awkward at all, then we need to shift you a bit.

Uh, I mean, it felt a little weird, but I don't know if that's because I'm not used to this or because it's wrong, you know?

[kineticist]

Here -- we'll play optometrist. [Zoe moves Alice's arm slightly and lifts her elbow a touch more.]

Throw the punch again and let me know if it's better or worse.

[ she does so, tongue poking between her teeth in thought. and then she throws another just to check. ] No, that's worse.

[kineticist]

Alright, so back to A position.

[She'll tap lightly, to put her back to where she was before the adjustment.]

Try it again.

[icouldbe_bess]

[ another swing, her head tips thoughtfully. ] Yeah, that's way better in comparison.

[kineticist]

[Zoe smiles.] Alright, so now that we have your stance, let's just try some simple throws.

[She'll stand in front of Alice and lift her hand up.] Punch it.

[icouldbe_bess]

[ alice does so with a beautiful and amazing and flawless attack of six. she's really just giving zoe one of those awkward high five/fist bump combos. ]

Sorry, I'm not really a fighty type of person.

[kineticist]

No, it's alright. I get it. [Zoe will probably go through a few more tips and tricks, just teaching her to stay balanced and keep her eyes alert. That listening is always smarter than looking - all that stuff.

It'll be fun or just a lot of punching the air.]
