[Kate is always reading up on the Veil, mostly because she's trying to figure out if there's some way to give her answers without waiting for someone from her world to magically fall through and provide them for her - if they remember, of course, and aren't too upset by the fact that Kate doesn't remember them. She's tired of trying to make sense of emotional reactions she doesn't quite understand, relying on clues that provide facts but not answers and hoping that one day she'll find what she's looking for.

There's nothing she can do for it, so in the meantime? She reads.

Today happens to be the day that one of the books Helen has commandeered is the book that Kate happened to be in the middle of. She doesn't want to disturb her, as she is clearly hard at work, but since the volume in question is in the stack waiting to be filed through, rather than one of the ones spread out in front of her, she figures it's worth asking.]

[Finishing a thought in her notepad, Helen glances up at Kate's approach.]

Hm? Something I can help you with, dear?

[She holds up a finger before pointing to a book in the middle of Helen's stack.]

Mind if I borrow this one? I wanted to follow up on something.

Oh! Of course. Help yourself. I've amassed quite a collection here, haven't I?

[She looks slightly embarrassed about it.]

[She shakes her head as she fishes the book out of the pile.]

Don't worry about it.

[Though at the same time, she can't help but be curious as to what Helen is working on.]

It must be quite the project.

Oh, just some personal research. [She smiles, but it's a bit strained.] The Veil is of a particular interest to me as of late.

[Kate picks up immediately that the project is of a more personal nature (sense motive nat 20), and she softens her approach, not going to the obvious questions for details but instead trying to be helpful if she can.]

Have you talked to Sir Gar? She's done a lot of research on the subject.

Not about this specifically, but I'm familiar with Sir Gar and her work. The matter is just a bit more... personal. I'm doing my best to handle as much of it on my own as possible.

Just mostly reading up on the latest theories. I came through the Veil about two years ago, and I'm just ... curious about how it works, more or less. It's easier than being endlessly curious about myself and what I left behind.

A reasonable curiosity. I was much the same when I first arrived. In truth, that desire to learn never truly faded. [Which is why she's here.]
