somewhere he shouldn't be

[Taradiddle doesn't really have a good excuse for being in the stone corridor outside the round table room. She doesn't think it's specifically not allowed but, well, it's also just not one of the hot hang out spots of the castle. But she has an appreciation for pretty things, and this corridor is filled with them. So is the round table past it, but she doesn't really trust herself to go in there. Even here is sometimes a challenge. So many pretty things.

She starts when she notices someone else opens the door as she stares at a particularly shiny artifact, then scowls at the intruder.]

What are you doing here?

[She's always found it best to accuse first. Then people are less likely to question second.]

why does he think he's not the only who who's not supposed to be here?

[procurer]

[ He hadn't expected to find anyone else here, but he's good at improvising, so at the defensive question, he adopts an innocent expression and arches an eyebrow as he saunters casually towards her where she's bent over one of the artifacts he'd spotted his first time through this hall. ]

Exploring. What are you doing here?

[ See? Perfectly innocent. ]

I was exploring first. [She flicks her hands back towards the door.] You explore somewhere else.

is he though. is he really.

[ He ignores the order, strolling even further into the room with an easy glide, hands carefully tucked in his pockets as he makes a wide circle around where she's standing. ]

I don't see why. This place is plenty big enough for the both of us, after all. And maybe a dozen or so more. I didn't see a sign outside that said 'Maximum capacity: 1'.

[She glares, turning to keep him from getting behind her.]

Uh huh. But you're gonna cramp my style. I can already tell. You've got that style cramping look around you.

[procurer]

Hey, now. That's harsh. [ He gives her a look that's filled with hurt, even if it's obvious by the amusement in his eyes that it's completely fake. ] We might have completely compatible styles, if you'd stop being all paranoid for a moment. Why are you all paranoid, by the way? Not supposed to be here either?

Not supposed to be here? [Every inch of her tiny gnome body looks offended. That's about three feet, but you know. A high percentage.] I'll have you know I am a full and well trusted member of Dragon's Light. You know, the guys who heal you up? Who are you?

[procurer]

Ohhh. One of them witchy sorts, is it? [ He's... actually still learning about the different groups and what they do here, so he files that piece of information away. And doesn't look at all intimidated by the adorably bristling gnome. Somehow he doesn't think she'd appreciate the sentiment either way. ]

Nick Hawley, recently from New York. Not a full and well trusted member of anything yet, but still with a decent pair of eyes in my head. And you were the one who got all jumpy and defensive when I found you in here. You can't blame me for assuming.

[So rude. She crosses her arms, huffing.]

Big people sometimes get all rude and patronizing. You can't blame me for being a little jumpy.

Big people are the worst. [ He agrees easily and with a sympathetic nod, despite the fact that he stands over six feet and his boots add a few inches more. ]

And I didn't know there was a difference. In the magic, I mean. Sorry. I've only ever met one witch before. Didn't even know magic was even real until then, either. Still adapting to what's real here, too, so I didn't mean to offend. Cleric though, huh? Is that like... a priestess or something? Holy to a particular deity or just in general?

[ Sorry, shorty. You just piqued the occult fascination he has. The one that drew him back to this room in the first place. Hawley likes knowing about everything. ]

[She shrugs, all nonchalant. She likes talking about herself enough that she isn't trying to get him to leave anymore, though.]

Yeah, I'm dedicated to Baravar. But it's way more badass than just being a priestess cause, you know, magic.

[procurer]

Magic does seem to make everything better, I'm noticing. [ He breaks into a grin at that, and wiggles his fingers for effect. ] We don't have a lot of that where I come from. Well. Maybe we do, but no one knows about it. I'm still figuring it out myself, so I'm not exactly an expert by any means. Up until a few weeks ago it was all fairy tales and mythology.

[ Funny, how much could change in the span of a few weeks. ]

So what can you do? Also who the heck is Baravar?

He's a gnome god. The best gnome god. [Not that she's biased or anything, she shrugs.] My family was pretty into him back in the old world. [She eyes him speculatively.] I'll show you. Give me your hand.

[She holds out her hand for it.]

[procurer]

[ He eyes her, then her hand, before reluctantly holding out his. ]

I'm getting the feeling you're not talking about the little colorful dudes that took over the lawn ornament industry.

Wow, don't be racist. [It's not unreasonable to guess that the racism has something to do with what she does next, but honestly it's unrelated. She was already planning to stab him in the hand. (atk 19, subdual dmg 5). At least she was careful to make it non-lethal?]

[procurer]

[ Hawley gives a yelp as she stabs him without warning, jerking back and away with a sharp curse and an immediately disgruntled look as he cradles his now bleeding hand to his chest. ]

What the hell was that for?

Why does everyone get so surprised when they ask me to demonstrate my magical healing powers that they have to be injured first? Like what did you expect me to do? [She rolls her eyes and makes a show of putting away her knife.] Come on, give me your hand back. I'll fix it.

[procurer]

You could warn a person first! [ He's scolding her. And still looking highly displeased in general. ] Or, you know, not stab someone in the hand in the middle of a conversation.

[ Who does that?

He looks very skeptical about allowing her around any of his body parts ever again, despite her sheathing her knife once more. ]

Don't be a baby. [She rolls her eyes and puts a hand on his arm anyway.] Oh, great Baravar, please make this whiny asshole stop complaining and heal his itty bitty cut.

[It is enough of a prayer to allow her to cast cure light wounds, which grants him 10 hp back!]

See? All better.

[procurer]

[ He's a level 1, 10hp is still more than the 6 he comes with. Sorry, Taradiddle, he is still a baby for a lot of reasons. You coulda killed him with that itty bitty cut! ]

This is still not all better, there's still the fact that you stabbed me. In the hand. [ He's totally justified in his lingering outrage, alright. Even if he is staring at his newly healed palm in a mixture of surprise and fascination. Look at that, it's better than new. ] Holy shit, that's useful though. Uhh. No pun intended. That time.

[It was non-lethal damage! He would have just passed out, he'd be fine.]

Where would you have rather I stabbed you? The face? The leg? [Clearly the location of the stabbing is the problem here.] Yeah, no one really complains when it's the bad guys who did the stabbing.

[procurer]

That's because you expect the bad guys to stab you. [ He really feels like he's pointing out the obvious here. ] That's what makes them bad guys.

Also I don't know where you've been, I've heard everyone complain when they get stabbed, that shit hurts.

Again, you're all better now. I didn't even leave a scar. [A beat, she considers.] ...would you have wanted a scar? I mean, they look pretty cool....

I love you, Taradiddle. Even if Hawley is not currently your biggest fan.

[procurer]

No, I don't need another scar. [ He sighs in exasperation and flexes his hand for a moment, still impressed by what she'd done. ] But thanks. I think. So you have to pray to make it work? Does it always work?

I have to pray to prepare them. Once I cast 'em they just sort of... work. [She shrugs. It's magic, don't ask her how.] And I can only do it a few times a day, too. Once I get better at magic I'll be able to do it more!
