Perched at the edge of any civilized lands, the small lumber town of Falcon's Hollow has always had to rely on itself to solve its  problems.  Now the hacking coughs of the sick are heard throughout the town.  The plague has come to the Hollow, and the town is ill equipped to stop it on its own, particularly given its resistance to magic.

That's where the Knights come in, sent to assist a local herbalist in putting together enough supplies to mass produce a cure.

[ abigail looks up at it like O_O. ] Or it's magic. [ she glances over at miles. ] You heard what that woman said. Superstition could have kept people away from it for all these years.

One way to find out. [ he ain't afraid of no magic. ejecting his claws, he stabs them into one side of the tree and then starts to fucking climb up using them (climb 27) ]

[ this seems like a horrible idea, but he's basically indestructible, so w/e. maybe he'll be fine. abigail watches anxiously, keepin' 'em peeled for anything out of the ordinary. (spot 16) ]

[ she doesn't see much, until logan makes his way up a ways, pushing some of the leaves off to the side with his bulk - and he sees something that stops him in his tracks, giving them a full view if they make a 14 spot check.

three corpses hang from the higher branches, flayed of almost all their flesh, equipment dangling from their half-devoured carcasses. ] ... Oh, for fuck's sake.

[ abigail gags at the sight, quickly turning away. why does she always get the disgusting body parts and flayed things??? she was supposed to have escaped this! after a brief moment to steal herself, she turns back and picks her way forward, looking up at logan unsteadily. ]

Can you cut one down?

[ gonna put this murder basement life to good use if it kills her. ]

[Miles cringes visibly. Worst. No thanks.

So he'll focus on something else, which is currently trying to make Abigail feel better. He goes to stand near her, placing a hand on her shoulder as if to make sure she's alright.

Maybe he just needs a little help keeping his shit together too, don't judge him.]

[ abigail leans into miles almost unconsciously, just wanting to leech some comfort out of this mission that is going astoundingly crappy. this is not even the most horrible thing she's seen in her life, she just wasn't expecting it to follow her through the veil.

which is why she murmurs, on a whisper, ] This is not okay.

[ logan makes a grunting noise and starts to climb up again, slowly, but he stops abruptly, tensing. yellow eyes flicker from the leaves above. suddenly a large reptile leaps out, as green as the surrounding foliage and at least six feet in length. it has a dragon's head filled with sharp teeth, and two arms ending in grasping claws.

it pounces at him, biting, jaws clacking short of logan's head (atk 13), its long snake like body wrapped around the trunk of the tree ]

[That thing is pretty horrifying. Grimrot pulls an extract from one of the pouches on her belt and imbibes it, letting the magic she stored in the alchemical formula activate. Then she tilts back her head and spits a glob of viscous liquid towards the creature (atk 11) which, on the off chance it hits, will function like a tanglefoot bag with a reflex save of 14 to resist being glued to the floor.]

[ in an instant, abigail has one of her knives out and she steps away from miles to flip it in her hand and fling it full force at the reptile ...thing. (atk 18 (22 - 4 for throwing), dmg 6 if it hits) ]

[ grimrot's glob very nearly hits the thing, if only because it's flat-footed, but not quite. abigail's knife, however, buries in its side. it screeches and tries to bite logan again (atk 22), but its teeth can't break through his metal skeleton so there's that. ]

Wonderful country, Canada. [Nels says sarcastically, as he sprints toward the tree the monster is in, drawing his sword as he charges.]

[Naturally (Much like the flying shit on Andres) the beast is out of reach. Unfortunately for the Tatyzlwyrm, Nels has no hesitations about hurling a blade as effortlessly as a dart: And a Nat 20 Critical Attack for 26 Damage (Boosted with Cunning Insight)]

[ the blade cuts right through the creature's throat, and its eyeballs roll back immediately, its entire body going slack enough to send it flopping down to the base of the tree in front of them.

logan, still hanging on the tree above, raises one eyebrow down at it, then back at nels, and looks...

almost impressed. ]

[ abigail moves forward to grab her knife, looking at the creature with disgust as she pulls it from the corpse, wiping blood and guts on her parka. ]

Gross. [ her head tips back to look at logan. ] Are you okay?

[grimrot]

Should we get up there and, er, help you? [She's not sure how much use she'll be fighting from on a tree, but she feels kind of bad.]

[adamantiumed]

[ logan looks down at them, then back up at the tree ] 'm fine. [ he doesn't answer grimrot, but instead climbs up next to the bodies, examining them for a moment, before he uses his claws to cut their packs off them, which go plummeting to the ground, spilling their contents out on the ground next to the party.

there's a pair of crossbows, a masterwork shortbow, a signet ring with the image of a flaming hawk, some wadded up canadian dollars, and a bunch of beef jerky, twinkies, and assorted crap.

logan starts climbing down again, stopping to scratch something off the bark of the tree before he just leaps back to the ground, holding up what he got: a piece of the tree with some of the moss growing on it. ] One down.

[ what if... abigail grabs the bow because it's beautiful and the ring... and the money. the latter of which she shoves at logan like look i got you some money from your homeland. jk, he's the boss, he gets to keep the money and maybe they'll have to bribe someone later? she turns the ring over in her hand, holding it out to show miles. ] Think it's important?

I don't think these gentlemen will be needing any of this any longer. [Nels remarks with grim sarcasm, as he retrieves and cleans his blade.]

Is there any identification? We should make sure their families know.

[ logan shakes his head ] Nothing I can see. [ he nods at the ring ] Maybe someone in town'll recognize it.

We should keep moving. Find that witch.

SHHH NOTHING HAPPENED

[grimrot]

Yes! [She spares a look for the dead guys, but there's nothing to be done for them now. She can't resurrect people.] West, wasn't it?

[ he nods. ] C'mon. [ and onward they push, through the trees.

the sounds of the forest become suddenly distance as the trees part, opening into a small, almost perfectly circular glade. the nearest stands of pine, eyln, and darkwood - all typically sturdy woods - twist away from the clearing, as if bent by some impossibly strong wind, or seemingly in an attempt to flee despite their paralyzed roots. at the glade's center squats an ugly cottage, little more than a pile of twigs, shoots and ivy stacked upon mud walls. from that thatched roof dangle bundles of gnarled roots, old dried beast carcasses, and knucklebone bangles, all clattering together like gruesome wind chimes. a dozen small thatched fetishes - each shaped like a tiny man, imp, or rearing serpent - stand propped in the yard, keeping guard before a rickety plank door. the fetishes are about 3 feet tall, and there's probably about fifteen of them, each unnerving. ]
