[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. It's like everybody's got different reasons for joining, and staying, and … I'm just trying to figure out where I fit. But you're legacy. That's cool. Were your parents in the science department too? [ Someone failed that knowledge check. ]

[ Hey! Someone whose name Skye actually recognizes! She glanced over her shoulder as she settled onto the steps beside him, then turned to watch the dogs run as she continued talking to him. ]

She's pretty intense, isn't she? Did you guys join together?

[hacker]

Yeah, well, you are not as stealthy as you think you are.

[ Skye straightened up more, sitting her back against the headboard, knees bent, blankets pulled up over them. ]

You guys train a lot here, huh? I mean, I guess you'd have to. You really did a number on those soldiers back in Guadalajara.

Sci...ence departm--? [He looks so confused then just shakes his head.]

Only science I'm any good at is computer science. Programming. Building. Hacking. I can get you in or out of digitally anything.

[Instead of literally. Get it?? He thinks he's so clever.]

But no. Parents weren't that sort. My mum is in the Hide and my da is part of the Tongue. Got a brother in the Hide here too. He's not around as much, though. Too busy on missions most days. And my parents work mostly back home in Ireland.

Few years now. [Carol raises an eyebrow, catching the punching bag she's been systematically destroying.] Taking a poll or measuring your odds?

Nah, no anniversary parties that I know of, but sometimes it feels like there's a party every day anyway. Squiring ceremonies are once a month, but Knighting ceremonies — what happens if you try hard and believe in yourself and Wynn decides to keep you around — can be whenever. He's only ever done it en masse once, after Andres.

[he just barges into the rec room like] I was going to tell you Shark Week's on, but I see that you're already here.

[ Her brow furrowed a bit, and Skye shook her head. ]

You say that like you don't think CS counts. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd probably blow someone up if they put a beaker in my hands too, but it is what it is. Don't they lump it all together here?

Des; CASTLE & NYC OPTIONS

CASTLE

[Des's time in the castle is few and far between over the last few minutes, though he usually drops in by request and sticks around for a little while to catch up with the people here. There's a definite change in his personality- he seems much less gruff, and his sarcasm seems more friendly and jovial. There's a light in his eyes that wasn't there before that anyone close enough to him would probably pick up on.

If he's not specifically visiting with the people who called him here, he can be found on the shooting range, practicing with his gun, or in the lounge borrowing the TV for a few choice hours between visiting with old friends. He can also be found in the training room, practicing with some of the swords available, and... actually fucking rocking at it.]

NYC

[For those who want to drop in on Des and his hubby out of curiosity, the address he gave to his friends is about as far from his horrible Manhattan rathole as you can get. In fact, it's a very nice penthouse that looks like something that no one would expect Des to live in. You'll get to take the elevator through the fancy building all the way to the top. Yay!]

Little bit of both, I guess. [ She folded her arms under her chest and hunched her shoulders. ] Trying to get a feel for how you guys work. What I saw in Mexico obviously isn't the whole story: there's hundreds of you. And that's just here. Wynn said there are cells all over the globe. It's a lot to take in.

[airforceful]

[Carol runs into him in the bowling alley, which probably means she was looking for him because she's not... majorly interested in bowling. It's fun but I mean... it's bowling. She pauses, watching him dance down the lane and trying to decide whether this is more or equally as dorky as the Peter Quill she knows is, but ends up deciding it doesn't really matter.]

Someone needs to introduce you to the magic of the ipod.

How's that work? When you're squired it's like a test drive, and then you do something to earn Knighthood and suddenly you've got tenure? Do a lot of people wash out in the squiring?

She's something. [ he can't really call her intense because he's just so used to her now, they've been best friends for almost two decades. he doesn't seem to mind that she's settled in to chat, but he's a sucker for youths. ugh it's awful ] We've been friends since college, but yeah, she followed me up here.

I didn't really get the feeling Malina followed anyone anywhere. [ Said in a somewhat impressed voice, like wow senpai. But also in the way that says it speaks a lot to Gus' character. ]

So that's the secret to Wynn keeping people around.

[ Skye sidles on up beside him at the bar, grabbing a bottle of whiskey and pulling it over to her side. ]

Fully stocked bar can keep anybody's attention.

A lot of my training was from before. [ she glances up, a little hesitant because skye knows more about pegasus stuff than most people. she doesn't want her new friend to be like okay bye. ] It's just keeping up now.

He's Wynn all right. [He hits the pause button so he doesn't miss the middle of a Lorelei and Luke scene, and really you shouldn't question why the Bronx-accented raccoon is watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix.] I ain't been here long enough to get a feel for the place, myself. Mostly we go out and we fix people's problems and I get to shoot things and/or blow 'em up, and then I come back and sit around here for awhile.

I've really never had to find out.

[ And she sounds DEEPLY DISTURBED BY THAT INSINUATION. ]

I was kind of thinking that they'd try a non-shooting approach first. Like talking people down.

Yeah, we're all part of the Hoard. Just not many people who think of this sort of stuff- [He gestures to the lab around them.] -if you say you work in a "science department."

Sounds about right, as far as I know. And some do, I think. Not a lot, but some. But it's never a public thing, right? You just ... stop seeing some people around. And no one ever talks about it. Maybe they just figure the whole thing isn't for them and go home, or maybe Wynn kicks 'em out. I dunno. Kind of reminds me of the mafia.

There's not much she won't do for her friends. [ she's such a good and there is obvious affection for his best friend in his voice. ]

It's amazing! [ she literally bounces in her seat, twisting around to grin at alex, clearly excited. ] There's a man in a plastic box, that is a horrible idea and I hope he gets eaten!

Well, you're still new. I'd go to the shooting range, either way. Get that bad aim verdict out of the way.

[Her head cants as she contemplates something, which Skye might assume would be that posed question about a non-shooting approach, but it is definitely not that.]

Which one of the knights do you think has the biggest hands? [She seems dead serious about this.]

Do you like it? [ She searched Kali's eyes, wary about how to navigate these waters, given the Pegasus situation. ] I mean, they made you do it before, right? But you're still doing it ... Is it because of Wynn, or because you like it for you?

Have you blown up or shot a lot of ... people? [ Asked in a lilting, tight voice that tried to be cautious with his apparent SUPER AGGRESSIVE RACCOON PERSONALITY. Luckily, she's about as used to weird shit as you can get. ] I mean, I'm kind of starting to wonder if that's the go-to around here. Shoot first, questions later.
