The plan has been set, and the Knights are on their way to New York City once again - this time with the desperate hope fueling them that they can save two of their own, instead of simply endangering them further.  Jack and Buffy have greater stakes in this than anyone - as it is Jack's fiancee, Gar and the love of Buffy's life, Rafael, who are currently in the grip of the vile villains that have plagued them for the last four years.  Knowing fully well the risks that are inherent in potentially facing down the dangerous Mind Master, who shattered Myri's life in an instant by breaking Finnick Odair's psyche, their plan is to divide and search the warehouse as quickly as possible - knowing that every second counts, when an alerted team of bad guys could take the lives of their captured friends.  

It's an unparalleled gamble, but may be their only opportunity before Rafael and/or Gar are moved from the facility.  To that end, they converge at a nearby hotel...

[Myri is quiet and reserved for most of the flight, keeping to herself, and looking out the window of the plane. Going after the Mind Master has her in a place of extremely mixed emotion. On one hand, she wants revenge, but on the other, she's terrified of leaving Shayla without a mother.

So she sits and she thinks. And in her hands, she worries at a piece of shoelace, practicing a few simple knots that Finnick taught her back when things made so much more sense.]

[ She knows those knots.

Myri picked up the habit early, but it's still hard not to think about him when she sees them. Buffy sighs as she settles into the seat beside Myri, who's just about one of the only people here she actually wants to have a conversation with right now. Myri understands what she's going through in a way the others don't. ]

You're thinking about him too, huh?

[Restless energy doesn't really do Felicity any good, so eventually she'll get up to wander the cabin for a drink, passing Myri's seat as she does. When she sees the knots in hand, she wonders if she should say anything, knowing how close to home this all is for her, but she also figures if nothing else, Myri can tell her to go away and she won't take it personally.

So she makes her way closer and gives her a small smile.]

Hey, you.

[At some point during the flight, Rose emerges from her little corner of the plane. Dropping into the seat nearest to Myri. Not speaking at first but instead watching as she knots the laces with her fingers.]

So if we run into trouble, I'll hold them and you can tie them up.

[The attempt at lightness, lacking any real enthusiasm but it sounded better to Rose than the questions she knew were too stupid to ask; 'Are you okay' - 'Whats on your mind'.]

[Spike is, as usual, availing himself of the flight liquor cabinet and wishing desperately for a cigarette. For the most part, he has headphones in as he listens to bands that are definitely screamy and either reading Howl by Allen Ginsberg or sleeping with it on his face. Bother at your own risk.]

[ the book is plucked off his face, the sudden light probably waking him easily as dumage turns it over to examine the cover ] And what is this, exactly?

[There is absolutely nothing about the way Spike is sitting that suggests he wants to be bothered right now and while Rose usually ignores all those visual cues, she doesn't immediately go over to bother him. Keeping to her own corner while throwing the occasional look in his direction as the hours tick by.

It's more than half the flight before she finally moves over and takes up the seat next to him. No words. Just a hand extended, holding out a couple of bottles that she'd snagged from the liquor cabinet on the plane.]

[ He knows there's too much at stake here. Too many variables and moving parts. It makes him uneasy. He oddly enough has no problem with Wynn approves lethal force. The only reason he had a problem before was that they had no way of knowing if the men they took out were just doing their jobs. This is different. These are evil people doing evil things. He's taken a lot of lives in the war. He just has to remember what he's fighting for.

It Steve isn't asleep then he's back to doing the one thing that keeps his mind at peace. He's sketching something or someone with his shield at his feet. ]

[Felicity would normally try to claim a pair of seats for herself for a long flight like this, but those pre-mission nerves are also prominent today and since Vi isn't here to help diffuse some of it, that's going to get transferred to Steve instead.

Sorry, Steve. Or you're welcome? Depends how you're feeling.]

[ once everyone is gathered in the hotel, jack calls them together for a quick meeting. he's more solemn than usual, but completely collected as he lays out some blueprints on the table. ] We've managed to pull these from old city files, with Sir Samcelot's assistance. They are, however, nearly half a decade old, and it's possible there have been renovations since. I'm afraid we're working without any navigable duct system, etc. We believe that if they are here, they're either being held in the basement, the center of the building, or on the top floor.

Hence the fanning out. [ Buffy nods as though to assert her approval of that estimation. ] So we slam all the options at the same time, and whoever finds them rings the bell for the rest of the team to boogie?

[Felicity leans forward, trying to get a better idea of the lay of the land.]

Are there a lot of buildings close to it, or more wide open spaces?

[She wants to know if they should be worried about people watching the building from the outside. Or reinforcements being held there.]

[Felicity does her best not to seem like she's being pushy as she weaves her way through to the front of the scene (bluff 35, escape artist 24) trying to get as close to the police barricades as she possibly can. She wants to be read as just another bystander in the crowd, drawn by the gruesome act that's occurred. The rest of her energy, however, is devoted to scanning the scene for any kind of trouble or sign that it's related to their business here (spot 33, listen 24).]

[ ♬ one more murder - better than ezra

as she draws closer, she can see some people peeling away from the scene with looks of disgust on their face, a few with something almost like a twisted sense of relief.

"--just some bugbear," she overhears from one person, explaining the scene to another.

"Alright people, give us some room, we've got a wide load," says one of the cops, the model of sensitivity as the body is lofted up. more chatter from the crowd here and there catches her ear, but more than anything is the prevailing sense of apathy - maybe even antipathy behind it all that is truly unsettling.

"--what happened?"
"--think he attacked some guy. That's what he said. Self-defense."
"Can't believe they let those things walk the streets."
"--got what's coming to 'em."
"Should lock 'em all up, if you ask me."
"Monsters--" ]

[She hopes the disgust on her face blends with the looks of those around her, and it isn't incredibly obvious that it's the people she's disgusted with, rather than the situation at hand (will save 11). But it's not her job to speak up for this bugbear, at least not right now - she just wants to get the information she needs and gets back to her team.

She keeps letting her eyes scan the area to try and see if she can find the "he" in question who was responsible for this "self-defense" (spot 16, sense motive 23 if she can find him).]

[ kat casts the invisibility spell on everyone before they split, and jack cautions them all that it will involve not being able to see each other, either. ]

We've only twelve minutes before the effect wears off, but any moment wasted within will likely cost us, one way or another. [ the grimness in his tone makes it very clear that he is speaking about much more than their own personal danger - both of them have a stake in this that only the other can truly empathize with. ] Up ahead. [ his words indicate the back doors of the warehouse, which are next to a docking bay door, all of which are rather overgrown by weeds, indicating it hasn't seen much use in awhile. ]

[ The warning doesn't do anything for her motivation; she doesn't need to have the threat of invisibility wearing off to be motivated to act fast. She knows the chances here. She knows what she's just as likely to find inside as not. And she knows that Jack might be the only person who's feeling anything close to what she's feeling right now. ]

Promise me something. [ She says, her low and distant voice indicating that she's heading for the door at a brisk pace. ] Whatever happens in there, however long it takes us, you focus on getting them out. And I'll do the same.

[ With their minds and hearts where they are, it seems a fair trade-off. Both of them would likely rather see the hostages freed than walk out of there empty-handed with their lives. ]

We won't leave without them. [ the words are firmly delivered, and it's clear he means them, but there's a touch of something heavy to them, likely given that jack carries the responsibility for seeing all of them getting out of there in one piece. ]

You have my word.

[ i feel like at some point i put actual thought into how these two were going to get on the roof in the first place and it's escaping me in this moment, so idk. knights magic. BUT HERE THEY ARE NOW. look at my level of gming. there's a single entrance into the building - a padlocked door. ]

That looks like your department, darling.

Right. [He rolls his shoulders back in a way that would look super cool if he wasn't... invisible and stalks up to the lock, giving it a mighty yank (str 16 if that's... enough....)]

kat, felicity, steve | east entrance

Whatever you do, stay close. Get more than ten feet away from me, and this puppy will drop. [ with that, kat erects an invisibility sphere that slightly distorts the air, causing it to waver around them. they can, however, all continue to see each other, unlike the others she already magicked. ]

[Felicity nods, because they've done this song and dance before, keeping close and letting her eyes scan the area around them, keeping her ears open as she does (listen 27, spot 22).]

I think we can handle sticking together.

myri & rose | west entrance

[ both invisible, to the bad guys as well as each other, myri and rose approach the building from the western side, where there's a single door that is marked as an employee entrance by a faded sign. a few windows line this side of the building, but each are caked with dirt and dust. ]

[And Rose is going to go ahead and declare In Harms Way for Myri, shocking nobody, as they approach the door. With no visibility inside, she's not going to wrench the door open or anything but will give the handle an experimental turn while listening for anyone on the other side. (Listen 35)]
