Sidelined from the mission that has been many of their lives for years, the group who had once stood against Keijen Blade has made a dangerous gambit - they've decided to leave the Knighthood, knowing they may never be allowed to return.  With them, have gone Sam and Dean Winchester, and Faith Lehane.  Their destination?  A distant monastery overlooking the village of Krozna, in the Ural Mountains.   This hidden location was home to many Shadowkind who did not wish to deal with the prejudice that their appearance might force upon them out in the world, particularly in Russia.  Wynn had apparently established a location here for Knights that broke the rules of the Knighthood so extremely to reflect upon their crimes, or for those whose powers made it impossible for them to live out in civilized society.

This monastery of misfits is run by a man named Mikhail Kalachnik, a willing exile who volunteered for the position, a man vouched for as trustworthy by both Jack Chessing and Finnick Odair.  It is here that the former Knights will set up a base of operations from which they intend to rescue Rafael Giovanni, research a way to stop Keijen Blade, and take him down once and for all, along with the evil Mind Master.  

But first, they must get to know the exiled Knights with whom they will be sharing this hideout...

[ she starts again at the child's sudden appearance, opening her mouth slightly a few times before she speaks. her voice is low and a little throaty. ] So small.

She's two. [ and orange. vi settles her hand on lucia's shoulder so she won't make a run for the skittish woman. ]

I'm sorry we startled you.

[littlebeast]

No, I... I am sorry. I was-- [ but she trails off from explaining exactly what she was doing, closing her fingers tightly into balls and glancing at the doorframe briefly. it's impossible to miss the weird scratch marks there. ] Mikhail said there were children.

[graveflowers]

This one and another, yeah.

[ as if used to explaining to people, lucia adds, the hint of pride: "She's not orange! That's just me." ]

[ the girl looks at her for a long moment, before saying gently: ] Hello, little one.

[selfcombust]

[ from down the hallway comes a familiar voice from their welcome wagon ] Sveta. What are you doing? [ his tone is full of cautious chastisement, but he sounds a little ... on edge about this. sveta's head snaps up and she looks frightened again, as if caught in the act of doing something. ] Mikhail told you to keep to yourself, remember? Go back to your room.

It's fine, she hasn't done anything wrong.

[ not that vi is telling him to back off, obviously he would know the people here better than her, but it's a reassurance that sveta, what a pretty name, has been fine. ]

[selfcombust]

Let's keep it that way. Sveta. Room. [ she trails across the wall away from them a bit, her eyes a bit sad, but then ducks her head and vanishes around a corner ]

Sorry about that.

You treating her like a dog? So am I.

[ full offense ok. ]

And here I thought you'd want someone protecting your child. She's better these days, at acting like a person, but inside she's still more animal than human.

But it seems you already know everything, so I'll leave you to it.

[ vi looks A TINY BIT CHAGRINED but not enough to apologize. whoops. ]

What is she?

She was human. Now she's... something else. Some sort of nature magic, out there stuff with ley lines. Whatever it was, it changed her from the inside out the more she drew on it. Mikhail says she "drifted", between human and animal. It's not a werecurse. It's not a single animal and her changes are partial but permanent.

Maybe that's why she was curious about Lucia. [ vi turns her wrist idly on lucia's shoulder and suddenly a flower crown is weaving itself together atop the toddler's dark hair. ]

She smells like nature magic.

[selfcombust]

That... would actually make sense, yes. Can I ask why?

I'm an aasimar. Spring's my thing. Lu's half-elf, half me.

[ "Imma princess." ] Half princess.

A princess? [ he raises an eyebrow at the little girl, then at vi ] Does that make you a Queen?

[ vi snorts. ]

I wish. My mom is. Thankfully I have zero power because I would be a terrible ruler. Everyone would be telling me there's no budget for ponies for everyone and yet I'd give everyone a pony, it would be an awful idea.

[selfcombust]

Where are you from, exactly?

Rome. [ a beat. ] My mom is from Olympus.

[selfcombust]

Your English is remarkable, for Greek royalty.

[graveflowers]

[ vi shrugs ] You should hear my Latin. Your English isn't half bad either.

My father insisted I learn from a young age.

[graveflowers]

Smart idea. Maybe Lu can learn some Russian while she's here.

[ "I wanna play." vi gestures back into the room behind them, toward her little bag of toys on the couch. ] Okay, go play.

I take it you intend to stay for some time, then. [ it's hard to say how he feels about that, but he doesn't seem offended by the notion at least ] It will be... interesting, having so many around. The company here can be a bit lacking, at times.

[graveflowers]

We might, [ vi agrees. ] But I honestly don't want to make a big fuss and hinder anyone's... whatever, here.

[ she's thinking of a little cottage in the village not because she's afraid of the people here, but because she doesn't want to be disruptive and toddlers are, as a rule, disruptive. ]
