What was he like?

[trebond]

Warm. He was old, but he wasn't stuffy like some of the others. He knew where his priorities laid, and they laid with learning. He always had some historical volume, some story, and he always had a drink. [ A reluctant smile. ] No one's perfect, I suppose.

[witchwoman]

He sounds lovely. [The drink thing is a sore subject for her, but not enough for her to bring it up to side track Alanna's story.]

I'm glad you had someone like that in your life.

[trebond]

And I'm grateful to have known him. I always wanted to escape Corus, to go on adventures ... I didn't imagine I'd never get the chance to return.

[witchwoman]

Do you miss it? The world you knew?

[trebond]

It's not that, exactly. Only that ... I've never much liked being trapped.

[witchwoman]

[Myri blinks, almost startled by that answer.]

Is that how you feel? Trapped?

[trebond]

In this universe? A bit, yeah. Didn't choose to be here, but I can't quite leave either.

[witchwoman]

[She supposes it's true. She never had anything worth going back for, though.]

If you had the choice, would you leave?

[trebond]

I suppose I can't say for sure, given that the gods haven't given me much choice in the matter. [ Which she sounds rather sour about. Alanna's never loved the gods making decisions for her, but they seem to do it terribly often. ]

[witchwoman]

[Myri frowns a bit at that, not quite being able to relate. She too believed that gods brought her here, but considered it a gift.]

Perhaps you'll be given the choice one day. [That thought is slightly troubling and after a moment, she adds:] I would be sad to see you go.

[trebond]

I don't think I'd much like to go if there were no way back. [ Her nose crinkles with slight amusement. ] I've only ever wanted the freedom to come and go as I please. It's one of the reasons I became a knight.

[witchwoman]

Between worlds? Oh, I don't think I've ever... [She shakes her head, trying to put that thought of her mind. There are some bad, bad people on the other side of the Veil for her.]

I can't imagine such a thing being possible.

[trebond]

No. And I doubt it ever will be. [ She admits with a sigh. ] So we'll have to do with what we've got.

[witchwoman]

[She's not sure how she feels about it. Coping and existing isn't much of a life at all. Her smile is a bit dimmer.]

I hope it's bearable.

[trebond]

If I'm to be trapped on any unfamiliar plane, better one with plenty in the way of adventures to keep me occupied. It's a might more than bearable.

[ A cheerful wink accompanies the remark. Obviously, Alanna isn't allowing her frustrations with her lacking freedom to flag her enjoyment too severely. ]

Company isn't bad either.

[witchwoman]

[A smile manages to drift over Myri's features at the final remark.]

Yes, the company helps, doesn't it?

[ Alanna nods her abrupt agreement, then waves a hand. ]

I've taken enough of your time. Do let me know when the child comes: I'd love to meet her.
