[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.   Characters participating in the following missions are asked to wait until their missions have concluded before tagging into things that take place chronologically after said missions:  Dead of Winter, Curse of the Homo Magi, Ravenloft, Shadow Bermuda, and City of Blood  If you aren't certain if that applies to you, please ask!  Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.

[ a small smile lifts her lips. ] You'd be surprised. If you put in effort, privacy is still a thing. My husband was super private. It just takes a little work. Not everyone lives in the castle anyway, it's just easier for a lot of people.

[ she lifts a hand to stop any condolences that may or may not make an appearance. she's still kind of uncertain on whether or not she's supposed to acknowledge luthir because it makes people uncomfortable mostly, but he was important to her so he comes up sometimes just by accident. ] It's okay.

[ For a moment, a flicker of empathic grief starts in Skye's eyes. But as Vi dismisses it, Skye softens, and nods, accepting the unwelcomeness of the sentiment. ]

In a profession like this, it probably happens a lot, huh? Losing people.

It's definitely a possibility going in to this line of work. And it's the part no one ever tells you about. [ she lifts her eyebrows like i am your cautionary tale. ] We do really good stuff and we help people and people who aren't "people" but trees or bugbears or elves or who even knows. Sometimes it's really hard, but it's always worth it.

If anyone has room to say so, it's you. Obviously, your husband thought it was worth it, if he put his life on the line for it. And Thomas.

[ Skye nodded, accepting the logic therein. ]

It was really brave of them both. And brave for you, to still be here. To still ... do this, when you've seen firsthand what it could mean.

Thanks. [ she glances down, clearly affected by the compliment. sticking around doesn't really feel brave to her, just natural, and maybe selfish to bring her baby into this kind of world when she could bring her into a safer environment, but vi still feels touched. ] I sort of grew up in this kind of place. I want Lucia to feel like she has a family even if not by blood.

Lucia? Is that gonna be her name? [ She points to Vi's stomach. Is that rude??? Doing it anyway. ]

[ as long as she doesn't touch it, vi doesn't give a shit. ] Uh-huh. My last name's Italian so I wanted something for my possibly not actually Italian roots.

I like it. [ A smile settles in, and Skye nods. ] When's she due?

Uh, sometime in June. [ when vi says it, it sounds like "possibly never". because that's what it feels like. ]

Well. [ Smile growing lopsided, Skye raises her eyebrows. ] Congratulations. I'm sure you're sick of hearing that by now. Ready for Lucia to vacate?

Thanks. I'm so ready. I was ready months ago, but she was less ready. I would love it if she would decide to be ready. I don't wanna be that lady on TLC who was pregnant for sixty years.

[hacker]

Shadowkind kid. Got it. [ Skye laughs. Something about having a dwarfed gestation period makes it impossible for human women to complain about pregnancy duration tbh. ] How long has it been?

Uh... eleven months? I think. [ she can tell, to the day, how long it's been since she's found out, but...

that's just too sad for life. ]

That sounds ... actually terrible. [ she holds a hand up. ] Sorry. I know. Miracle of life. But the miracle of life could get a move on.

No, it's shit, don't worry, I know. Miracles shouldn't have to take this long, y'know? Should just be -- [ she snaps her fingers. ] -- boom, baby.

Cosigned. [ quickly, ] I mean, not that I've ever. [ She straightens, shaking her head as she clears it up. ] But I can imagine.

Well, you can take advantage of our amazing co-pay free health care. Astrid loves handing out birth control. She's gonna throw condoms at you anyway. [ her shoulders lift in a shrug, amused smile tugging at her lips. astrid is good quality. the dragon's light takes all kinds, ok. ]

[ she laughs. ] Probably. She's just really into safe sex. An admirable quality, bless her.

[ A commercial break ends, and Skye redirects her attention to the screen. ]
